ABSTRACTObjective: Innovative application of quality by design (QbD) technique for simultaneous estimation of levofloxacin and ambroxol hydrochloride (HCL)in bulk and its pharmaceutical dosage form using reverse phase-high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method.Method: A method has been developed for the separation of levofloxacin and ambroxol HCL using RP-HPLC on C18 column (250 4.6 mm, 5 ml) withultraviolet detection at 306 nm. Experimental designs were applied for multivariate optimization of the experimental conditions of RP-HPLC method.Three independent factors: Acetonitrile content in the mobile phase composition, buffer pH, and flow rate were used to design mathematical models. Here, central composite design (CCD) experimental design was used to study the response surface technique and to study in depth the effects ofthese independent factors. Derringer's desirability function was applied to simultaneously optimize the retention time of last eluting peak (ambroxolhydrochloride) and resolution between levofloxacin and ambroxol hydrochloride.Result and Discussion: The predicted optimum assay condition consisted of acetonitrile, potassium dihydrogen phosphate buffer (pH 5.00;potassium dihydrogen phosphate), and methanol in a proportion of 20:70:10% v/v, respectively, as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.2 ml/minute.Using this optimum condition, baseline separation of both drugs with good resolution and a run time of <5 minutes were achieved. The optimizedassay condition was validated according to the ICH guidelines to confirm specificity, linearity, accuracy, and precision. Keywords: Levofloxacin, Ambroxol hydrochloride, Experimental design, Response surface methodology, Derringer's desirability, Quality by designapproach

ABSTRACTObjective: The aim of the study was to assess the efficacy of metformin on fasting blood glucose (FBG), postprandial blood glucose (PPBG), totalcholesterol (T. chol), blood pressure (BP), weight and hence body mass index (BMI) in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).Methods: In a prospective study, 90 women aged 18-45 were treated with metformin 500 mg twice daily for 1 year. women were grouped as obeseand non-obese based on their BMI. The changes in measured parameters were analyzed statistically. Results: There was a reduction in weight, systolic BP (SBP), FBG, PPBG and T. chol (p=0.04, p=0.03, p=0.032, p=0.037, p=0.042 and p=0.047,respectively) in the obese group. There was no significant difference in diastolic BP in both the groups. Conclusion: Metformin treatment lowered weight and SBP and T. chol in women with PCOS. FBG and PPBG were also reduced in obese patients whileNon-obese women did not benefit from metformin. Keywords: Polycystic ovary syndrome, Metformin, Obese, Non-obese

Secondary bacterial flora in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis - a preliminary report

Sputum samples from 100 smear positive or skiagram positive pulmonary tuberculosis patients were cultured for superinfecting or co-injecting bacteria. These patients were equally divided into five groups. This included Croup-I who are not treated; Group-II who are treated up to three months; Group-III who are treated for more than three but less than six months; Group-IV treated more than six months and lastly Group-V who have completed the prescribed treatment schedule of varying durations. Neisseria catarrhalis and Strep. viridans predominated in all patients irrespective of group, other organisms isolated, were Micrococci, E.Coli, Serratia, Proteus and Pseudomonas. There was no significant difference in the pattern of organisms isolated from different group of patients. The antibiogram showed the usual susceptibility pattern

Achieving Web services composition – A Survey

    Get PDF
Abstract Web Services composition development is too complex and dynamic. Software engineering approach is adopted to develop composite service systematically. Co mposition development process involves modelling, discovering & binding, publishing and invoking a co mposite service. Th is paper aims to make the co mposition development process clear by classifying the literature on web services composition into the phases of composition development process. As a result of this, the definit ion, requirements, approaches, techniques and evaluation of an end-to-end web services co mposition development process is made clear. The current research area which requires a lot of attention is identified and discussed at the end to further extend the topic

    Hemangiomatous Ameloblastoma: A Rare Variant

    Get PDF
Ameloblastoma is a true neoplasm of enamel organ type tissue. It is the most common odontogenic neoplasm with more frequency in the mandible. A 20 years old male patient presented with a swelling in the right side of the mandible of 10 months duration. Orthopantomograph revealed multilocular radiolucency extending from the region of 46 to the condyle. Incision biopsy revealed features of plexiform ameloblastoma. Numerous vascular spaces of varying size were seen throughout the stroma. Excision biopsy also revealed similar findings. Based on these findings, a diagnosis of hemangiomatous plexiform ameloblastoma was made. Hemangiomatous ameloblastoma (HA) is still a controversial entity, with some pathologists ruling it out as a  separate lesion. This paper discusses the possibility that HA might be an aggressive variant of ameloblastoma and reviews relevant literature.&nbsp

Experimental Investigation of Wire Wicked and Mesh Wicked Heat Pipe

    Get PDF
An experimental investigation is carried out for determining heat pipes heat transfer rate involving wire wick and mesh wick. The investigation is conducted in order to examine the efficiency of wire wicked heat pipe. The wire wick is investigated for heat transfer rate and efficiency by comparing it with the widely used economic and efficient mesh wick structure. The investigation function involved detecting the heat transfer at different angle of inclinations. Both the heat pipes considered have the same thickness of wick layers and same working fluid tested under ideal situations.
