Piecewise smooth stationary Euler flows with compact support via overdetermined boundary problems
We construct new stationary weak solutions of the 3D Euler equation with
compact support. The solutions, which are piecewise smooth and discontinuous
across a surface, are axisymmetric with swirl. The range of solutions we find
is different from, and larger than, the family of smooth stationary solutions
recently obtained by Gavrilov and Constantin-La-Vicol; in particular, these
solutions are not localizable. A key step in the proof is the construction of
solutions to an overdetermined elliptic boundary value problem where one
prescribes both Dirichlet and (nonconstant) Neumann data
In the following paper a socio-education project and a playful and educational app are presented. The main aim of this paper is to reduce through playing the emotional impact that suffering cancer and being hospitalized for long periods of time cause on children. Moreover, it is intended to encourage hospitalized children integral development. This paper wants to highlight the psychological and social aspects in order to contribute and improve these children wellbeing and quality of life during hospitalization. The happiness of children is tried to be achieved through accompaniment, affective support, and creation of the app and the realization of some ludic activities. It is also intended to create a joyful environment where children are able to distract themselves, have fun, make their relationships with their families stronger, understand their situation and express their feelings. In short, being able to forget the situation they are going through and, once their disease is over, they are able to remember those positive experiences this hospitalization revealed, both in personal growth and integral development

Isoparametric foliations and polar actions on Complex space forms
The notion of symmetry underlies a large number of new ideas and major advances in Science,
Engineering and Art. From the mathematical viewpoint, the intuitive idea of symmetry as the
balanced correspondence of shape along space translates to the existence of a transformation
group acting on such space. The rst natural eld for the study of symmetry is then geometry.
Conversely, in his in
uential Erlanger Programm, Felix Klein described geometry as the study of
those properties of a space that are invariant under a transformation group. Hence, symmetry lies
in the very core of geometry.
In Riemannian geometry, the natural group to consider is the isometry group, that is, the
group of those transformations of the space that preserve distances. The action of a subgroup
of the isometry group of a given manifold is called an isometric action. Its cohomogeneity is the
lowest codimension of its orbits. Each one of the orbits of such an isometric action is called an
(extrinsically) homogeneous submanifold, and the collection of all the orbits is the orbit foliation
of the action.
The main objects of study in this thesis are certain kinds of submanifolds with a particularly
high degree of symmetry. Our ultimate goal is to decide whether the intuitive notion of symmetry
is re
ected in the mathematical notion of symmetry, namely if the correspondence of shape at
di erent parts of the submanifold implies that the submanifold is homogeneous

A simple analytical description of the non-stationary dynamics in Ising spin systems
The analytical description of the dynamics in models with discrete variables (e.g. Isingspins) is a notoriously difficult problem, that can be tackled only undersome approximation.Recently a novel variational approach to solve the stationary dynamical regime has beenintroduced by Pelizzola [Eur. Phys. J. B, 86 (2013) 120], where simpleclosed equations arederived under mean-field approximations based on the cluster variational method. Here wepropose to use the same approximation based on the cluster variational method also for thenon-stationary regime, which has not been considered up to now within this framework. Wecheck the validity of this approximation in describing the non-stationary dynamical regime ofseveral Ising models defined on Erdos-R ́enyi random graphs: westudy ferromagnetic modelswith symmetric and partially asymmetric couplings, models with randomfields and also spinglass models. A comparison with the actual Glauber dynamics, solvednumerically, showsthat one of the two studied approximations (the so-called ‘diamond’approximation) providesvery accurate results in all the systems studied. Only for the spin glass models we find somesmall discrepancies in the very low temperature phase, probably due to the existence of alarge number of metastable states. Given the simplicity of the equations to be solved, webelieve the diamond approximation should be considered as the ‘minimalstandard’ in thedescription of the non-stationary regime of Ising-like models: any new method pretending toprovide a better approximate description to the dynamics of Ising-like models should performat least as good as the diamond approximation
Axisymmetric simulation codes for hall effect thrusters and plasma plumes
Mención Internacional en el título de doctorThe development of reliable and versatile plasma discharges simulation codes is becoming
of central importance, given the rapidly evolving electric propulsion landscape.
These tools are essential for facilitating and complementing the design of new prototypes,
signiffcantly reducing development time and costs. Moreover, they can provide a deeper
insight on already proven technologies, revealing optimization opportunities so as to improve
the thruster performance and lifetime, and predicting the operational parameters
at different regimes of interest.
This Thesis is devoted to the numerical study of different plasma discharges and, in
particular, the Hall effect thruster (HET) discharge. With special focus on particle-based
modeling, two simulation codes have been developed. The first one, named HYPHEN,
is a new two-dimensional axisymmetric hybrid, particle-in-cell (PIC)/fluid multi-thruster
simulation platform. Its versatile PIC-based module for heavy species supports the simulation
of inner active surfaces, mixed specular-diffuse neutral-wall reflection, and chargeexchange
(CEX) collisions, thus extending the code capabilities and enabling the simulation
of axisymmetric plasma plumes. Moreover, it features a new population control
which monitors independently every heavy species and limits the statistical noise at a low
computational cost. Furthermore, an improved version of the HET electron fluid module
for the isotropic electron pressure case is presented. Three major studies have been
carried out with this code. First, the simulation of an ion thruster plasma plume has
permitted to benchmark HYPHEN against the 3D plasma plume code EP2PLUS. Second,
an investigation on the neutral-wall interaction effects on an unmagnetized plasma
discharge in a surface-dominated cylindrical channel with isothermal electrons has been
performed. The discharge ignition requires different propellant injection mass ows in
the diffuse and specular neutral-wall reflection cases. Third, preliminary simulations of a
SPT-100 HET have been carried out to demonstrate the code capabilities and reveal its
limitations. Consistent results have been obtained for different cathode locations in the
near plume region and various electron turbulent transport parameter profiles.
The second code corresponds to a new version of the one-dimensional radial particle
model of a HET discharge, originally developed by F. Taccogna. The major improvements
are an ionization controlled discharge algorithm, which enables sustaining a steady-state
discharge, and an extended volumetric weighting algorithm which provides a more accurate
macroscopic description of the low populated species, such as the wall-emitted
secondary electrons. The radial dynamics of both the primary and secondary electron
populations have been analyzed in detail, assessing the temperature anisotropy ratio of
their velocity distribution functions and the asymmetries introduced by cylindrical geometry
effects in the macroscopic laws of interest, thus aiming at a future improvement of
