The study analyzed the cultural influence on women's entrepreneurship development in Sokoto Metropolis, Nigeria. This paper stem from a post-graduate thesis that was self-sponsored, all procedures performed were in accordance with ethical standard. The population of the study consists of one hundred and fifty-three (153) women's owned registered enterprises in the Metropolis. The study employed a stratified random sampling technique to select the sample as a cohort to accommodate and provide a fair representation of different strata in the population. Thus, one hundred and fifty-three owners of enterprises were administered questionnaires, of which 101 were completed and retrieved. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. The findings reveal that culture has a significant influence on women's entrepreneurship activities in the study area, and some cultural barriers deter women from exploiting their entrepreneurial potential. The study recommends that the government implement policies aimed at reducing cultural influence on women's enterprise activities, thereby providing an enabling environment that supports women's involvement in entrepreneurship activities in the area. Similarly, support from husbands/guardians of women through financial and moral motivations encourages them to engage in business ventures

Pengembangan Website Jurnal Teknologi Informasi sebagai Media Publikasi Artikel Ilmiah

    Get PDF

Clinical outcome and cost effectiveness of early tracheostomy in isolated severe head injury patients

Background: Early tracheostomy (ET) has been shown to be effective in reducing complications associated with prolong mechanical ventilation. The study was carried out to evaluate the role of ET in reducing the duration of mechanical ventilation, duration of intensive care unit (ICU) stay, ICU-related morbidities, and its overall effect on outcome, in patients with isolated severe traumatic brain injury (TBI).Methods: This 7-year review included 100 ICU patients with isolated severe TBI requiring mechanical ventilation. ET was defined as tracheostomy within 7 days of TBI, and prolonged endotracheal intubation (EI) as EI exceeding 7 days of TBI. Of 100 patients, 49 underwent ET and 51 remained on prolong EI for ventilation. All patients were comparable in term of age and initial Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). We evaluated groups regarding clinical outcome in terms of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), ICU stay, and Glasgow Outcome Score (GOS).Results: The frequency of VAP was higher in EI group relative to ET group (63% vs. 45%, P value 0.09). ET group showed significantly less ventilator days (10 days vs. 13 days, P value 0.031), ICU stay (11 days vs. 13 days, P value 0.030), complication rate (14% vs. 18%), and mortality (8.2% vs. 17.6%). Clinical outcome assessed on the basis of GOS was also better in the ET group. Total inpatient cost was also considerably less (USD 8027)intheETgroupcomparedwiththeEIgroup(USD8027) in the ET group compared with the EI group (USD 9961).Conclusions: In patients with severe TBI, ET decreases total days of ventilation and ICU stay, and is associated with a decrease in the frequency of VAP. ET should be considered in severe head injury patients requiring prolong ventilatory support

Situational and Trans-Situational Correlates of Public Energy Literacy:A Western U.S. Case Study

    Get PDF
Background: Recent push for ‘energy democracy’ necessitates a well-informed citizenry vis-à-vis energy policy, especially in the wake of ideologically charged and divergent views about the existence and severity of climate change among American citizens. Citizens’ involvement in energy policy processes in democratic countries makes it important to assess the depth and scope of energy policy awareness and knowledge among the public, as well as to consider the factors that promote or hinder how informed people are about energy policy issues. Objectives: This study aims at examining the levels of public informedness and knowledge of energy policy and analyzing their potential correlates in the western U.S. states of California, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The study also analyzes the impact of public awareness and knowledge on public support for government funding for renewable energy technology research. Methods: Using survey data of 1804 randomly selected respondents from California, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, the study employs ordinal logistic regression to trans-situational and situational models predicting self-assessed informedness and objective measure of knowledge about energy policy as well as public support for federal funding for renewable energy technology research. Results: The study found that variables related to socio-economic status (SES) are stronger predictors of public informedness and knowledge about energy policy than situational variables like values and efficacy, except for climate change beliefs that have a positive relationship with informedness and knowledge. Conclusion: The study also found that informedness and knowledge of energy policy are positively associated with support for government funding for renewable energy research

The saturated hydrocarbons were isolated from the crude oil samples by the use of SARA separation and column chromatography methods. The fractions obtained were identified using GC-MS. The result shows that the saturated hydrocarbons presence in the samples indicate that all the samples spectra indicated the presence of Trans-decalin-2-methyl, Dodecane, Tridecane, Tetradecane, Pentadecane, Hexadecane, Octadecane, Nonadecane and Eicosane, all at a minimum quality of correlation of 70%.  The result of the GC-MS indicated that sample D has the highest number of saturated hydrocarbons presence in a minimum quality of % correlation of 70% and sample E has the lowest amount of saturated hydrocarbons.
