    Enhancing the Structural Stability of α-phase Hybrid Perovskite Films through Defect Engineering Approaches under Ambient Conditions

    This thesis investigates methods whereby perovskite solar cell power conversion efficiency and material stability may be improved. Hybrid perovskites have gained increased attention for optoelectronic applications due to favourable properties such as strong absorption, facile processing, and changeable band-gap. Despite excellent improvements in power conversion efficiency of devices, perovskite films are unstable, degrading with relative ease in the presence of moisture, oxygen, light, heat, and electric fields. The focus of this thesis is on ambient atmosphere stability, concerned with the influence of moisture in particular on perovskite film fabrication, degradation, and device functionality. In order to shed light on the impact of ambient atmosphere on perovskite films, experiments are designed to investigate films during fabrication and degradation. The influences firstly of stoichiometry during ambient fabrication, and then ionic substitution (with caesium and formadinium) upon moisture-induced degradation are investigated. Finally, films and devices with a novel composition incorporating Zn are fabricated under ambient conditions to investigate the effect of Zn addition on perovskite film stability

    Organization theory and military metaphor: time for a reappraisal?

    A ‘conventional’ use of military metaphor would use it to convey attributes such as hierarchical organization, vertical communication and limited autonomy. This is often used in contrast to a looser form of organization based on the metaphor of the network. However, this article argues that military practice is more complex, with examples of considerable autonomy within the constraints of central direction. It is suggested that not only might this be a more useful metaphor for many contemporary organizations, but also that simplistic uses of military metaphor divert our attention away from the functions that management hierarchies play. The discussion is embedded within a critical realist account of metaphor, arguing for both its value and the need for its further development

    A “thin spot” in thinking about business endangers our human being. This article traces a change in business thinking over the last generations to note how, under the spell of the scientific method and the thrall to utilitarian values, our understanding of our self has grown harder, more determined, and less sympathetic.     Re-imagining management education in post-WWII Britain: Views from government and business

    This paper explores the role of government and business in establishing two business schools in Britain in the 1960s. Partly in response to the Robbins Report of 1963, business leaders and politicians re-imagined management education and formed a new type of management education institution to operate alongside and ultimately compete a variety of other methods of management preparation. These two groups collaborated to create the London Graduate School of Business and Manchester Business School as national centers of excellence for management education. Using both archival and published sources, the paper’s contribution is to analyze perspectives expressed by businesspeople and political advocates involved with the business school project. It concludes that these advocates sought to create a body of educated, productive, yet socially-minded managers to lead Britain forward into the next phase of its economic development
