AbstractThis study aims to assess Turkish language teaching program of the 2nd grade primary school in terms of critical thinking skills. The document examination method, a qualitative research method, was employed in the research. Giving information on the general structure, and content of Turkish language teaching program (6-7-8), gains there from were reviewed. These gains were classified under the titles of critical thinking skills. In the reviewed Turkish language teaching program (6-7-8), 158 gains among the total of 228 under the fields of “reading, listening/following, speaking, writing, learning, and grammar” were found to be intended for critical thinking skills. It was further ascertained that, these gains were intended more for “application” and “analyzing” skills than those of critical thinking

AbstractThis study aims to determine the effect of the worksheet which is prepared after 5E learning cycle model concerning the teaching of the subject of adjectives as grammatical components on the success of the student. Combined research method where quantitative and qualitative research patterns are used in conjunction. Semi-experimental pattern with pretest-endtest control group was used for the quantitative aspect of the study for the qualitative aspect of which phenomenology pattern was used. Control group of the study consists of 56 sixth-grade students from Erzurum 23rd July Primary School in the educational year of 2010-2011. Data of the study were obtained using the success test prepared for the subject of adjectives and the interview form questioning the students’ opinion on the work process. While predictive statistical tests were used in the analysis of quantitative data, content analysis technique was used to analyze the qualitative data. In conclusion of the study, it was understood that the worksheets prepared according to 5E learning cycle model increased student's success, that the students preferred the lessons performed with worksheets prepared according to 5E learning cycle model and they were not bored in these lessons

AbstractThis study was conducted in order to determine the relation between the critical thinking levels of 5th grade students in primary education and their success in Turkish Language course. The study was conducted in line with the relational scanning model. Target population of the study comprised primary education 5th grade students studying in the province of Erzurum. And the sample group comprised 610 students selected by convenience sampling from the counties of Palandöken and Yakutiye. Critical Thinking Scale developed by Demir (2006) was used in the study. In data analysis, by means of SPSS 17.0 software package, frequencies, arithmetic mean, standard deviation levels and, for the correlation between critical thinking levels and Turkish Language course success, correlation analysis were used. In conclusion of the study, it was determined that the criticial thinking levels of students were high and there was a positive correlation between critical thinking levels and success in the Turkish Language course

Selectivity of 40 mm square and 50 mm diamond mesh codends for five species in the Eastern Mediterranean demersal trawl fishery

The aim of this study was to determine the selectivity of 40 mm square (40S) and 50 mm diamond (50D) mesh codend for five species, red mullet (Mullus barbatus), annular sea bream (Diplodus annularis), common Pandora (Pagellus erythrinus), axillary sea bream (Pagellus acarne) and blotched picarel (Spicara maena) in the Eastern Mediterranean. Selectivity data were collected by the covered codend method and analyzed. Mean selection curves were analyzed and compared using the between haul variations model for red mullet and annular sea bream. Pooled data were used for common Pandora, axillary sea bream and blotched picarel. In total, 22 valid hauls, 10 with 40S and 12 with 50D codends were carried out. The 50% retention lengths (L50) of 40S and 50D codend were found as 14.5 and 15.3 cm for red mullet, 9.5 and 11.3 cm for annular sea bream, 13.1 and 15.0 cm for common Pandora, 14.4 and 15.3 cm for axillary sea bream, 14.5 and 17.2 cm for blotched picarel, respectively. This study showed that codends with 40S and 50D L50 results improve the selectivity when considering commercially used 40 mm nominal diamond mesh codend in Turkish seas for given species. However, in multi-species, it seems likely that a separation of species system would potentially be of more value than size-selective systems. Therefore, different selective techniques such as grid and separation panel and behaviour of the species against the gear need to be investigated.Key words: Codend selectivity, 40 mm square mesh, 50 mm diamond mesh, Eastern Mediterranean, demersal trawl

Effect of tray dryer’s independent variables (drying temperature and air velocity) on the quality of olive pomace and system’s energy efficiency

[EN] In this study, the effects of drying temperature (70, 80, 90°C) and air velocity (0.5, 1.8 m/s) of hot air drying (tray drying) on quality of dried 2-phase olive pomace and system’s energy efficiency were investigated. The drying experiments were carried out in a tray dryer. The effects of drying conditions were evaluated with analyzing drying time, the primary and secondary oxidation and calculating specific moisture extraction rate (SMER), moisture extraction rate (MER) and specific energy consumption (SEC). The results showed that increase in drying temperature and decrease in air velocity led to decrease in quality of dried olive pomace.Baysan, U.; Koç, M.; Güngör, A.; Kaymak-Ertekin, F. (2018). In this study, we present long term photometric variations of the close binary system \astrobj{GO Cyg}. Modelling of the system shows that the primary is filling Roche lobe and the secondary of the system is almost filling its Roche lobe. The physical parameters of the system are M1=3.0±0.2MM_1 = 3.0\pm0.2 M_{\odot}, M2=1.3±0.1MM_2 = 1.3 \pm 0.1 M_{\odot}, R1=2.50±0.12RR_1 = 2.50\pm 0.12 R_{\odot}, R2=1.75±0.09RR_2 = 1.75 \pm 0.09 R_{\odot}, L1=64±9LL_1 = 64\pm 9 L_{\odot}, L2=4.9±0.7LL_2 = 4.9 \pm 0.7 L_{\odot}, and a=5.5±0.3Ra = 5.5 \pm 0.3 R_{\odot}. Our results show that \astrobj{GO Cyg} is the most massive system near contact binary (NCB). Analysis of times of the minima shows a sinusoidal variation with a period of 92.3±0.592.3\pm0.5 years due to a third body whose mass is less than 2.3MM_{\odot}. Finally a period variation rate of 1.4×109-1.4\times10^{-9} d/yr has been determined using all available light curves.Comment: Accepted for publication in New Astronomy, 18 pages, 4 figures, 7 table

    A Massive S-duality in 4 dimensions

We reduce the Type IIA supergravity theory with a generalized Scherk-Schwarz ansatz that exploits the scaling symmetry of the dilaton, the metric and the NS 2-form field. The resulting theory is a new massive, gauged supergravity theory in four dimensions with a massive 2-form field and a massive 1-form field. We show that this theory is S-dual to a theory with a massive vector field and a massive 2-form field, which are dual to the massive 2-form and 1-form fields in the original theory, respectively. The S-dual theory is shown to arise from a Scherk-Schwarz reduction of the heterotic theory. Hence we establish a massive, S-duality type relation between the IIA theory and the heterotic theory in four dimensions. We also show that the Lagrangian for the new four dimensional theory can be put in the most general form of a D=4, N=4 gauged Lagrangian found by Schon and Weidner, in which (part of) the SL(2) group has been gauged.Comment: 20 pages, references adde
