Neutron Diffraction Study on Single-crystalline UAuSi
Magnetic structure of tetragonal UAuSi was investigated by
single-crystal neutron diffraction experiments. Below = 20 K it
orders antiferromagnetically with a propagation vector of and
magnetic moments of uranium ions pointing along the tetragonal -axis. Weak
signs of the presence of a ferromagnetic component of magnetic moment were
traced out.Taking into account a group theory calculation and experimental
results of magnetization and Si-NMR, the magnetic structure is
determined to be a squared-up antiferromagnetic structure, with a stacking
sequence () of the ferromagnetic -plane sheets along the -axis.
This result highlights similar magnetic correlations in UAuSi and
isostructural URuSi.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figure
Solution growth of Ce-Pd-In single crystals: characterization of the heavy-fermion superconductor Ce2PdIn8
Solution growth of single crystals of the recently reported new compound
Ce2PdIn8 was investigated. When growing from a stoichiometry in a range 2:1:20
- 2:1:35, single crystals of CeIn3 covered by a thin (~50 um)
single-crystalline layer of Ce2PdIn8 were mostly obtained. Using palladium
richer compositions the thickness of the Ce2PdIn8 layers were increased, which
allowed mechanical extraction of single-phase slabs of the desired compound
suitable for a thorough study of magnetism and superconductivity. In some
solution growth products also CePd3In6 (LaNi3In6 - type of structure) and
traces of phases with the stoichiometry CePd2In7, Ce1.5Pd1.5In7 (determined
only by EDX) have been identified. Magnetic measurements of the Ce2PdIn8 single
crystals reveal paramagnetic behaviour of the Ce3+ ions with significant
magnetocrystalline anisotropy. Above 70 K the magnetic susceptibility follows
the Curie-Weiss law with considerably different values of the paramagnetic
Curie temperature, for the magnetic field applied along the a- (-90 K) and
c-(-50 K) axis. Below the reported critical temperature for superconductivity
Tc (0.69 K) the electrical resistivity drops to zero. Comparative measurements
of the electrical resistivity, heat capacity and AC susceptibility of several
crystals reveal that the superconducting transition is strongly
sample-dependent.Comment: submitted (2Nov09) to Intermetallic
Band structure of CuMnAs probed by optical and photoemission spectroscopy
5 pages, 5 figures + Supplementary InformationTetragonal phase of CuMnAs progressively appears as one of the key materials
for antiferromagnetic spintronics due to efficient current-induced spin-orbit
torques whose existence can be directly inferred from crystal symmetry.
Theoretical understanding of spintronic phenomena in this material, however,
relies on the detailed knowledge of electronic structure (band structure and
corresponding wave functions) which has so far been tested only to a limited
extent. We show that AC permittivity (obtained from ellipsometry) and UV
photoelectron spectra agree with density functional calculations. Together with
the x-ray diffraction and precession electron diffraction tomography, our
analysis confirms recent theoretical claim [Phys.Rev.B 96, 094406 (2017)] that
copper atoms occupy lattice positions in the basal plane of the tetragonal unit
cell.We acknowledge support from National Grid Infrastructure MetaCentrum provided under the programme “Projects

The bachelor thesis on "Portrait Photography" explores the evolution of the photographic medium and capturing portraits using a photographic device. It describes the essential pictorial and technical tools and explains the basic photo processing. The thesis also introduces current trends found in the industry. The practical part then applies these tools and some of the trends to a real example.
