Data Acquisition System For Fingerprint Ultrasonic Imaging Device
Ultrasonic imaging of fingerprint is relatively new application in the field of Biometrics that is capable of obtaining fingerprint pattern for identification purposes. In previous digital data acquisition system, image of the skin-plate contact pattern have been produced. Unfortunately, these systems do not provide any information about in-depth structure of the fingerprint area. In this work, data acquisition system for ultrasonic imaging of fingerprint was developed with in-depth imaging capability. In this system finger is inserted into a hollow cylinder and set of rotating focused ultrasonic transducers scans over the finger. Emitting and receiving of ultrasonic signal is realized by the DSP-based data acquisition board. Software controls scanner motion, obtains data and transfer it into computer in the form of three-dimension digital data cube. Software is capable to store 3D acoustical image of fingerprints and visually represent it in the form of C-Scan, B-Scan and A-Scan
Enhanced hop-by-hop routing algorithms for underwater acoustic sensor networks
Underwater Acoustic Sensor Network (UW-ASN) is a wireless network infrastructure applicable in deep ocean to sense, collect and transmit information to seashore data collector. Underwater sensor network consists of sensor nodes disposed in different depths, equipped with a low bandwidth acoustic modem and acts collaboratively to route the packet from one node to another. Underwater routing protocols provide route information to underwater sensor nodes to transmit collected information efficiently using an optimal path. Routing protocol related to UW-ASN is identified with the issues of low energy consumption, high end-to-end delay and shorter network lifetime. These are due to the distribution of unnecessary information packet flooding in route establishment, improper selection of next hop neighbour and inefficient routing path generation. This research develops a routing protocol that will be able to control flooding of hello packet at information distribution phase, to calculate link quality and composite metric cost for next hop selection and to regularly update the energy status in order to achieve optimum balance in routing path. The developed protocol is called Distance based Reliable and Energy Efficient (DREE) consists of three schemes. The first scheme is called distance calculation and information distribution scheme that calculates the distance between potential neighbours and distribute the local information in an energy efficient manner. The second scheme is route planning and data forwarding scheme in which a node calculates the link quality towards its neighbours and selects a path based on physical distance, link quality and node energy information. Finally, the third scheme is energy balancing scheme that provides each node with new energy status of its neighbours on regular basis. DREE is compared with a Reliable and Energy Efficient routing protocol (R-ERP2R) and Depth based Routing (DBR) protocol. Simulation shows that DREE reducing energy consumption in the information distribution phase by 187% and 179% compared to R-ERP2R in random and grid topology respectively. DREE achieves higher packet delivery ratio of 96% with a similar end-to-end delay as R-ERP2R. DREE improves packet delivery ratio by 7% and 13% over R-ERP2R and DBR, with 9.3% and 201% less energy consumption respectively in data forwarding phase. Finally, DREE improves network lifetime by 18% and 74.5% compared to R-ERP2R and DBR protocols
PLACEBO-CONTROLLED STUDY ON COMPARISON OF TWO HERBAL HYPOLIPIDEMIC AGENTS
Introduction: Hyperlipidemia, either primary or secondary causes atherogenetic abnormalities leading to coronary artery disease, cardiac arrest and arrhythmias. Herbal therapy for prevention or cure of Hyperlipidemia is replacing allopathic medicine due to their bioequivalence and good compliance features. This study was conducted to compare hypolipidemic effects of Garlic and Nigella sativa. Place of Study: Study was conducted at Jinnah Hospital Lahore from July 2013 to December 2013. Seventy five hyperlipidemic patients were enrolled after getting written consent which was approved by Ethics committee of the hospital. Grouping: They were divided in three equal groups comprising 25 patients in each group. Group-A was treated by Nigella Sativa, Group-B was advised to take Garlic 10 grams twice daily for two months. Group-C was on placebo. Results: After two months therapy it was observed by statistical analysis that Nigella sativa decreased total cholesterol 12.4 mg/dl, triglycerides 16.7 mg/dl, and LDL cholesterol 27.3 mg/dl. HDL rise was 5.2 mg/dl. Garlic decreased total cholesterol 17.9 mg/dl, triglycerides 19.9 mg/dl and LDL cholesterol 14.8 mg/dl. HDL cholesterol rise was 8.0 mg/dl. Conclusion: It was concluded from this study that there is little difference between hypolipidemic effects of two important and famous herbal medicines ie, Nigella sativa and Garlic
COMPARATIVE CHARACTERIZATION OF ANTIOXIDANT PROFILE OF VITAMIN-E AND RED DATES IN PLACEBO AND TESTED GROUPS OF HYPERLIPIDEMIC PATIENTS
Objective: Antioxidants are nutrients that help minimize free-radical damage to the body. Free radicals are highly reactive compounds that are created in the body during normal metabolic functions or introduced from the environment, such as by exposure to pollution and other toxins. Inherently unstable, free radicals contain "extra" energy which they try to reduce by reacting with certain chemicals in the body, which interferes with the cells' ability to function normally. Methods: Lahore Pakistan from January 2018 to March 2018. LDL-cholesterol was calculated as total cholesterol- HDL-cholesterol-VLDL-cholesterol; VLDL-cholesterol was measured directly after ultracentrifugation. After one month therapy their post treatment lipid profile was determined and analyzed statistically by using SPSS version 2.2.01 2013. Paired ‘t’ test was applied for mean values with SD of the parameters before and after treatment.
Results: Results showed highly significant change in LDL-cholesterol of group-II patients but HDL-cholesterol was increased 6.6 mg/dl, still it was significant change with p-value of <0.01. In group-III LDL-cholesterol was decreased 10.9 mg/dl which is significant change with p-value <0.01. HDL-cholesterol in this group was increased 4.2 mg/dl which is non significant with p-value of >0.05.
Conclusion: Study concluded that red dates have antioxidant potential by lowering LDL-cholesterol in human plasma. But this effect is not comparable with hypolipidemic effects of Vitamin E as it also increases good cholesterol i.e. HDL-cholesterol.

FLAXSEEDS AND AJWAIN FOR PRIMARY HYPERLIPIDEMIA
Research work was single blind placebo-controlled, conducted at General Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan conducted from NOVEMBER 2015 to JANUARY 2016. 75 diagnosed primary hyperlipidemic patients were selected with age range from 20 to 60 years. Diabetes mellitus, cigarette smoking/alcohol addictive patients, peptic ulcer disease, hypothyroidism, kidney dysfunction, any heart disease and liver disease. All patients were divided in three groups, ie;  25 in each group. All participant’s baseline lipid profile data were taken and filed in specifically designed Performa, at start of taking medicine. Twenty five patients of group-I were advised to take 10 grams of Flaxseeds in three divided doses after meal. Twenty five patients of group-II were advised to take Ajwain seeds 10 grams in three divided doses after each meal for two months. Twenty five patients of group-III were provided placebo capsules, (containing grinded rice), taking one capsule after each meal. All participants were advised to take these medicines for eight weeks. Followup period: All participants were called fortnightly for their query and follow up. Their LDL-cholesterol, and HDL-cholesterol was determined at the hospital laboratory. In two months therapy by Flaxseeds decreased LDL-cholesterol 6.2 % and increased HDL-cholesterol 7.7 %. Ajwain reduced LDL-cholesterol 8.9 % and HDL-cholesterol increased 13.1 %. All changes are biostatistically significant with p-value of <0.01. Conclusion: It was concluded from the research that both Flaxseeds and Ajwain are effective in Primary Hyperlipidemia, if used for two months with specific concentrations

Evaluation of experimental forced response data of a turbine stage with respect to different stator blade damages
This thesis work is based on the evaluation of experimental forced response data of a turbine stage with respect to different excitation sources. Six stator blade configurations are considered with three types of damage blades, i.e. triangular, rectangular and quadrilateral damages arranged at different positions around the circumference of the stator ring. Post processing routines are developed to evaluate the forced response data of all the sensors attached to the rotor disk for all configurations and at different stator positions. Methods for averaging of the pressure data have been proposed.
Unsteady pressure distribution around blade surface is computed using the forced response from each sensor mounted on the blade. Important task is to verify the principle of superposition for configuration 05 and 06 by taking into account the single damage pattern from configurations 02-04. This principle has been verified in this thesis.
A method has been proposed for the scaling of the unsteady pressure distribution for different damage sizes of same type based on some size parameter, i.e. area. Relationship between different parameters is investigated, based on which forced response for any size of damage blade can be deduced. Finally, the thesis concludes with a detail sensitivity study and discussion of the results together with proposed future work
Damage Tolerance of Impacted Composite Sandwich Structures
This thesis deals with damage tolerance of impacted sandwich structures for load bearing applications. Composite sandwich structures find wide application as lightweight solutions in aerospace components, since weight reduction and less fuel emissions are primary concerns for aircraft manufactures. Sandwich structures are built of stiff face-sheet materials bonded to a low-density core material. In this thesis, the face-sheets are composite materials reinforced with carbon fibre non-crimp fabrics whereas the core consists of a closed cell foam material. Sandwich structures are susceptible to impact damage and even a small amount of damage can reduce the residual strength of components significantly. Therefore, damage tolerance assessment of such structures is essential and needs to be taken into account in the design process. Main objective of this thesis is assessment of test methodologies for estimation of compressive properties of foam core materials. An extensive experimental study of different densities of closed cell foam materials is presented and existing test standards are evaluated in this regard. Two different test methods were investigated for strain measurements of the foam material during compression testing assisted by a digital image correlation technique. A parametric study was also performed to investigate the effect of in-plane specimen size on the compressive modulus measurements. Both homogenized and stochastic finite element models are used to back the experimental observations. Different types of boundary conditions were used to simulate the effects of in-plane specimen size and prediction of compressive modulus. The findings were also used as basis for recommendations for updating current test standards. A part of the thesis work concerns the design and construction of a new drop-weight impact rig for low-velocity impact testing of sandwich structures. A test setup was designed to capture the true impact response without adulteration by oscillations. A novel catch mechanism was designed and implemented for preventing secondary impact. A detailed experimental evaluation and uncertainty analysis was also performed to evaluate the drop-weight rig in terms of repeatability and precision. The developed drop-weight rig was used to perform low-velocity impact characterization of sandwich structure with different face-sheet thicknesses. A range of impact energies were investigated for the identification of low level damage (LLD), barely visible impact damage (BVID) and visible impact damage (VID). A thorough fractography study was performed to understand the damage mechanisms at different energy levels and for different face thicknesses. A finite element model was developed to simulate the impact response and delamination extent, including both inter-laminar and intra-laminar damage modes. Finally, the impact damaged specimens were tested for damage tolerance assessment. Both symmetric and asymmetric specimen configurations with different face-sheet thicknesses were investigated. The effect of face-sheet thickness on the residual strength of sandwich structures was studied. Three different test methodologies for damage tolerance testing were investigated and the results were compared. A finite element model was developed for simulation of the edgewise compression test methods and the residual strength predictions were compared with the experimental results.QC 20181109DAMTIS

It introduces the book, its theme and narrates the multi dimensional questions of Abu Said Hujveri which was a basic factor in compilation of the book. The rich content and simple and impressive style of the preface has been discussed in this article.
