Two synthetic androgenic steroids, Ethylestrenol (17 β - Hydroxy - 17 α ethyl - estr - 4 - en - 3 - one) and Stanozolal (17 β - Hydroxy- 17 α - methyl - 5 a - androstano - 3, 2 - C - pyrazole) were fed via diet at 3 ppm to the spawn of Rohu and Mrigal which were reared up to fry stage over a period of 15 days in earthen carp nurseries. Both hormones enhanced growth of spawn. A maximum of 25.78% increase in length and 25.69% increase in weight as compared to the controls has been recorded. Growth rate was recorded to be 0.8 mm & 2.48 mg/day (control), and 1.13 mm & 2.67 mg/day (Stanozolol treated) in case of Mrigal spawn; and 0.91 mm & 2.39 mg/day (control), 1.12 mm & 2.90 mg/day (Ethylestrenol treated), and 1.10 mm & 2.57 mg/day (Stanozolol treated) in case of Rohu spawn. A decrease in the values of Relative Condition Factor upon hormone administration was also noticed

A Novel Fuzzy Logic Based Technique to Find the Criticality of Power Transformer

Determining the current prevailing conditions in the transformer is still a challenge and an attempt is made for meeting the same challenge. In this paper a novel system based on fuzzy logic is developed which considers thermal, electrical and mechanical conditions prevailing in the transformer and gives the critical status of the transformer at an aggregate. The developed system also facilitates to give the critical condition of Paper thermal, Oil thermal, Partial discharge, Electrical arching, Dissolved gas analysis(DGA), Break down voltage and sweep frequency response analysis(SFRA) individually so that corresponding preventive measures can be taken by the technologists. This system consists of 10 fuzzy logic controllers whose connections are made by considering technical conditions and reasons, the corresponding rule bases of these fuzzy logic controllers were developed by considering various standards and experience of TIFAC CORE in NIT-Hamirpur. This fuzzy logic based system is tested for various transformers and found that it is highly précised in classifying the critical statues of any transformer as well as all identifying the current prevailing conditions

Search for optical bursts from the gamma ray burst source GBS 0526-66

Attempts were made to detect optical bursts from the gamma-ray burst source GBS 0526-66 during Dec. 31, 1984 to Jan. 2, 1985 and Feb. 23 to Feb. 24, 1985, using the one meter reflector of the Kavalur Observatory. Jan. 1, 1985 coincided with the zero phase of the predicted 164 day period of burst activity from the source (Rothschild and Lingenfelter, 1984). A new optical burst photon counting system with adjustable trigger threshold was used in parallel with a high speed photometer for the observations. The best time resolution was 1 ms and maximum count rate capability was 255,000 counts s(-1). Details of the instrumentation and observational results are presented

(Anti)symmetric multivariate trigonometric functions and corresponding Fourier transforms

Four families of special functions, depending on n variables, are studied. We call them symmetric and antisymmetric multivariate sine and cosine functions. They are given as determinants or antideterminants of matrices, whose matrix elements are sine or cosine functions of one variable each. These functions are eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator, satisfying specific conditions at the boundary of a certain domain F of the n-dimensional Euclidean space. Discrete and continuous orthogonality on F of the functions within each family, allows one to introduce symmetrized and antisymmetrized multivariate Fourier-like transforms, involving the symmetric and antisymmetric multivariate sine and cosine functions.Comment: 25 pages, no figures; LaTaX; corrected typo

A comparative study of epidural tramadol with epidural pentazocine for postoperativeanalgesia in patients undergoing lower abdominal surgeries

    Get PDF
Background: To evaluate and compare the efficacy of epidurally administered Tramadol. Hydrochloride and Pentazocine Lactate in providing post operative pain relief for lower abdominal and lower limb surgeries. To compare the side effects between epidural tramadol and pentazocine. Design of the study was a prospective randomized study. Methods: The study population consisted of 100 patients aged between 18-65 years posted for various elective lower abdominal and lower limb surgeries requiring neuraxial anaesthesia at M.V.J. Medical College and Research Hospital, Hoskote, Bangalore. The study population was randomly divided into 2 groups with 50 patients in each sub group. Group T: Administered 50mg Tramadol, diluted to 10ml with Normal saline, epidurally (n = 50) Group P: Administered 0.3mg/kg Pentazocine, diluted to 10ml with Normal saline, epidurally (n = 50). Patient was monitored on various parameters including duration of action, hemodynamic variables, and side effects. Results: In group administered 50mg Tramadol epidurally, the mean time to onset of analgesia was 4.36±2.23 mins and the mean time to onset of analgesia in the group administered pentazocine was 4.84±2.24 mins, with a p value of 0.286, which is not considered significant. In tramadol group, the analgesic period averaged 7 hours 20 minutes, while the duration of analgesia in group P averaged 6 hours 43 minutes, with a p value of 0.475, which is not considered significant. It was also observed that 0.3mg/kg of pentazocine produced marginally higher incidence of bradycardia, dizziness, drowsiness. Conclusions: With these results, we conclude that epidural tramadol 50mg gives longer lasting and more profound analgesia with lesser side effects when compared to 0.3mg/kg of pentazocine
