© The Royal Society of Chemistry. The formation and relaxation kinetics of starch-particle complexes were investigated in this study. The combination of cationic nanoparticles in suspension and anionic starch in solution gave rise to aggregate formation which was studied by dynamic light scattering, revealing the initial adsorption of the starch molecules on the particle surface. By examining the stability ratio, W, it was found that even in the most destabilized state, i.e. at charge neutralization, the starch chains had induced steric stabilization to the system. At higher particle and starch concentrations relaxation of the aggregates could be seen, as monitored by a decrease in turbidity with time. This relaxation was evaluated by fitting the data to the Kohlrausch-Williams-Watts function. It was found that irrespective of the starch to particle charge ratio the relaxation time was similar. Moreover, a molecular weight dependence on the relaxation time was found, as well as a more pronounced initial aggregated state for the higher molecular weight starch. This initial aggregate state could be due to bridging flocculation. With time, as the starch chains have relaxed into a final conformation on the particle surface, bridging will be less important and is gradually replaced by patches that will cause patchwise flocculation. After an equilibration time no molecular weight dependence on aggregation could be seen, which confirms the patchwise flocculation mechanism

This journal article describes main results of the OECD Annual Report published in 2018, titled “Review and evaluation of agricultural policy in 2017” for 51 selected countries in the world, including Vietnam. The report is closely prepared by MARD and OECD experts. The journal article emphasizes more on Vietnam by updating and adjusting data, information and policies in 2017 and 2018. The description presents the changing trend of agricultural policies applied in the world, considering whether this trend is in the direction of achieving sustainable productivity growth, environmental protection, and adaptation to climate change. On average in the last 20 years, trend of world policies has been better but far to catch above purposes. The development of international trade has made the commodity movement more freely and price gaps narrowed between countries and regions. This trend made agricultural markets developed more toward reflecting the scarcity of good and services. Average level of total agricultural supports has been reducing. Consequently, the world price indices and the total support have been converted between countries and commodities. However, the total agricultural support reduction is mainly in developed countries like OECD countries. Emerging and developing countries have increased their agricultural supports. Relative to GDP, the level of the total agriculture support in Vietnam has been reducing.Inside the total agricultural support, producer supports accounted 78% while general service support accounted only for 14%. Inside the producer support, market price support accounted for more than 50% in many countries. Payments based on outputs and inputs also accounted more than 50% in many countries. In Vietnam, the producer support is very small, negative level in 2015 and 2016 and became positive in 2017 and 2018. The agricultural producer support in 2017 is about 900 million USD. In the overall service support, many countries mainly invest in infrastructure construction, for example in Japan and Vietnam over 70%, while investments in other items are too small, for example that in Vietnam is only about 16%.In conclusion, OECD suggests that market price support should be reduced and finally eliminated. Similarly, output and input payments should be reduced and eliminated. Future policies should focus on general support service that helps producers to achieve sustainable productivity growth in the context of a changing and uncertain climate. OECD especially emphasizes on appropriate investments in research, together with efforts to ensure that the outputs of this research reach farmers. OECD also emphasizes on research that help producers to better manage risks including business risk, weather risk, and climate changes. Agricultural production and climate changes are strongly interacted. Future research should be the better co-operation between public and private sectors with the leading role of public sector. The future research should be co-operated more strongly between countries and regions because of the differences in histories, cultures, geology and climate

The objective of this study was to investigate anti-fouling property of modified polysulfone ultrafiltration  (UF) membranes.  Polysulfone UF membranes were modified  by  coating  a  thin film of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), or a mixture of polyvinyl alcohol and titanium dioxide (TiO2) on  surface.  Effects  of  curing  temperature  on  the  coated  membranes  were  also  studied.  The modified  membranes  were  tested  with  0.5  g/L  sodium  alginate  solution  and  industrial  dye wastewater.  Curing  temperature  influenced  remarkably  flux  and  fouling  property  of  the membranes. Among experiments studied, 85 oC was the best curing temperature. The PVA and PVA/TiO2-coated membranes reduced fouling significantly. Dispersion of TiO2 nanoparticles on membrane surface improved considerably bacteria removal of the membranes

The Effect of ENSO on Hydrological Structure and Environment in the South Central Coast – Vietnam

ENSO (El Niño-Southern Oscillation) phenomena have impacted on the hydrodynamic regime and environmental factors of the tropical ocean in general. In case of Vietnamese South-Central Waters, impacts of ENSO only focused on issues of changing seasonal wind, seawater temperature anomalies, changing of water masses as the air-sea interaction. Based on several data sets collecting in the period of 2003-2017, new finding of seawater temperature, salinity and environmental factors was identified in the water masses of Vietnamese South-Central Waters. The highest salinity was 35.4 ‰. During the El Nino event, increasing water temperature and salinity caused to move the deeper water masses to be closer to the sea surface than that initial depth in the neutral period. During the La Nina event, the temperature of most water masses reduced by 0.1-3°C, and then these water masses could be affected to the deeper layer. During the phase from strong ENSO event towards the neutral time, nutrient salts of the 4 water masses were lower concentration in the neutral year, causing the lack of phosphorus in sea surface water masses

The remote phosphor structure is superior to the conformal phosphor and the in-cup phosphor in terms of lighting efficiency; however, managing the color quality of the remote phosphor structure has been a nuisance to the manufacturers. To address this problem, many researches were conducted and the results suggested that using dual-layer phosphor structure and triple-layer phosphor structure could improve the color quality in remote phosphor structures. The purpose of this article is to study which one between the two configurations mentioned above allows multi-chip white LEDs (WLEDs) to reach highest indexes in color rendering index (CRI), color quality scale (CQS), luminous flux (LF), and color uniformity. The color temperature of the WLEDs used for the experiments in this article is 8500 K. The result of this research shows that the triple-layer phosphor configuration has higher CRI, CQS, and LE and also able to reduce color deviation resulting in better color uniformity. This conclusion can be verified by analyzing the scattering features of the phosphor layers using the Mie-theory. Being verifiable increases the reliability of the research result and makes it a valuable reference for producing better quality WLEDs

The traditional white LED product established with a single chip and a single phosphor results in a low color rendering index (CRI). The upgrade of LED package is comprised of two chips and one phosphor material and gives the higher CRI while keeping high luminous efficiency. Based on previous findings, the research paper performs the application of the two chips and two phosphors to enhance the color tunability of LEDs with different amounts and intensities of the two employed phosphors. Additionally, a color design model is built to serve the purpose of bettering the color fine-tuning of the white-light LED module. The maximum value of the difference between the measured CIE 1931 color coordinates and that of the simulated model is approximately 0.0063 around the 6600 K correlated color temperature (CCT). From the results, this study offers a quick approach to achieve the color fine tuning of a white-light LED module with a high CRI and luminous efficiency

The models of coral reef management for the development of ecological tourism were conducted under the coordination among the 3 businesses (Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Company, Vinpearl Nha Trang and Tri Nguyen Tourism), Institute of Oceanography and Khanh Hoa Department of Natural Resources Environment. The analysis of trends of coral cover, density of reef fishes and big size invertebrates at 3 sites allowed assessing effectiveness of 3 years’ management. The stability of hard coral cover, except the decline at southern Hon Tam due to impacts of the typhoon in Nov., 2017 indicated no increased damage to corals from human activities. However, the dominance of small size fish ( 10 cm in length), the decline of density of larger size fish and the poorness of large size invertebrate showed continuous overexploitation at these managed areas.Mô hình quản lý rạn san hô vì mục đích du lịch sinh thái được thực hiện với sự tham gia của Viện Hải dương học, Sở Tài nguyên và Môi trường Khánh Hòa và 3 doanh nghiệp bao gồm Công ty TNHH Nhà nước MTV Yến Sào, Công ty TNHH Vinpearl Nha Trang và Công ty Du lịch Trí Nguyên.
