A Lightweight Loudspeaker for Aircraft Communications and Active Noise Control
A series of new, lightweight loudspeakers for use on commercial aircraft has been developed. The loudspeakers use NdFeB magnets and aluminum alloy frames to reduce the weight. The NdFeB magnet is virtually encapsulated by steel in the new speaker designs. Active noise reduction using internal loudspeakers was demonstrated to be effective in 1983. A weight, space, and cost efficient method for creating the active sound attenuating fields is to use the existing cabin loudspeakers for both communication and sound attenuation. This will require some additional loudspeaker design considerations

Identifying the health and supportive care needs of adolescent and young adult survivors diagnosed with cancer: a mixed methods study
Purpose: Current cancer programs in Canada manage adolescents (15-18 years) under a pediatric model of care, and young adults (19-25 years) under a disease-centered model of care. Key issues arise because neither of these models adequately meets the needs of adolescents and young adults (AYA). The aim of this study is to identify health and supportive care (HSC) needs of AYA survivors with cancer. Method: A concurrent nested mixed-method design was employed. Qualitative description and a systematic literature review (SLR) were used. Medline, Cochrane Central, PubMed, PsycInfo CINAHL and EMBASE were searched from their date of inception to October 2011. A comprehensive search strategy was developed.
A purposive sample of AYA survivors with cancer, aged 15-25 years were recruited. Face-to-face qualitative interviews were digitally recorded and transcribed verbatim. Line-by-line coding was used to establish codes and categories.
Result: Our SLR retrieved 760 citations. Among them, 12 were relevant. Qualitative findings are based on 20 interviews. Twelve diagnosed during adolescence and eight in young adulthood. Participants described several HSC needs that we categorized into 7 broad themes (e.g., social health) and 29 sub-themes (e.g., social support). Among the most commonly reported HSC needs for AYA survivors with cancer from both studies, were social wellbeing, information-sharing and communication and service provision. Conclusion: This study has identified a comprehensive set of HSC needs of AYA survivors with cancer. Study results will be used to inform the potential development of a new healthcare program for AYA patients in the Hamilton Health Sciences.Master of Science (MSc

The Evolution of Rock Festivals in Greece
There is a steady growth of music festivals that has continuously occurred within the last thirty years, and this has changed the structure of the international cultural market. Nowadays, selling recorded products does not make large profits and music festivals became the vitalsupporters of the music industry. This paper focuses on presenting how the growth of rock festivals introduced to Greek society a new kind of entertainment quite different from the traditional festivities of the region and how this practice supports tourism. Indeed, some great festivals are created with the international market in mind and are based on specialized tourism management practices. This study, after considering some aspects concerning the interaction between global and local music culture, provides a brief historical framework of the rock festivals. It constitutes basically a general review presenting the evolution of this imported type of entertainment in Greece, and it reveals possible commonalities between the traditional and the new forms of festivities. Although there are significant differences between Panygiri which is the old traditional Greek festivity and the rock festival, it seems that some fundamental elements in those social phenomena such as attracting tourism and uniting people always remain the same

Measurements of biochemical markers of pollution in mussels Mytilus galloprovincialis from coastal areas of the Saronikos Gulf (Greece)
Alterations in a number of biochemical parameters in marine organisms represent specific markers of exposure to particular classes of contaminants. They are used as tools for the detection and monitoring of pollution. In this study, two biochemical markers of pollution, metallothionein (MT) content and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity were measured in indigenous and transplanted mussels Mytilus galloprovincialis from coastal areas within the Saronikos Gulf subject to high anthropogenic activities. Biannual measurements of the two biomarkers in indigenous mussel populations for two years revealed no significant differences among stations representing a pollution gradient. Limited differences in MT levels were only found between mussel populations transplanted at lesser and more impacted stations. Both biomarkers showed a variation with respect to the season of sampling, whilst during the second year of measurements a concomitant increase in metallothionein content with a decrease in acetylcholinesterase activity was noted. Our results indicate that the applied biochemical markers in indigenous mussel populations do not reflect the type of pollution in the Saronikos Gulf to a degree that can be used for pollution monitoring in the area
A Matrix Decomposition MFS Algorithm for Biharmonic Problems in Annular Domains
The Method of Fundamental Solutions (MFS) is a boundary-type method for the solution of certain elliptic boundary value problems. In this work, we develop an efficient matrix decomposition MFS algorithm for the solution of biharmonic problems in annular domains. The circulant structure of the matrices involved in the MFS discretization is exploited by using Fast Fourier Transforms. The algorithm is tested numerically on several examples
Pulmonary Hypertension in Parenchymal Lung Disease
Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) has been extensively investigated, although it represents a less common form of the pulmonary hypertension (PH) family, as shown by international registries. Interestingly, in types of PH that are encountered in parenchymal lung diseases such as interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and many other diffuse parenchymal lung diseases, some of which are very common, the available data is limited. In this paper, we try to browse in the latest available data regarding the occurrence, pathogenesis, and treatment of PH in chronic parenchymal lung diseases
