Tourist itineraries for Sustainable Mobility: an application in the Salento Area (Italy)
The purpose of this work is to define the design process, implemented through an analytical methodology, of two sustainable mobility tourist routes in a specific area of southern Italy (Salento); methodology applicable to other territorial realities. This design process was developed in the context of the 2014/2020 Interreg V-A Greece-Italy cross-border cooperation strategic project called "AI SMART_Adriatic Ionian Small Port Network". It takes into account the analysis of existing Plans and Programs at different levels (Sustainable Mobility Urban Plans; cycling routes; Territorial Plans, etc.), the analysis of statistical data in the area related to employment and tourism; the interlocution with key stakeholders, the analysis of architectural, landscape and food and wine surpluses. These routes have been defined for the interaction of the port of Otranto with the hinterland territories and with the opposite Ionian coast to promote the sustainable and inclusive transnational tourist fruition of the Apulian territory. The genesis of the two thematic itineraries stems from the need/willingness to valorise some areas of Salento through the connection of significant nodes in terms of landscape, architectural and historical value, which define two routes with Pulsano and Otranto as their vertices. The project brings together the potential of the Salento as an area with a strong tourist value, with the theme of sustainable mobility, suggesting the seasonality of travel of each, to meet the needs of deseasonalization of an area with a high summer and seaside tourism vocation

Distribution of Complex and Core Lipids within New Hyperthermophilic Members of the Archaea Domain
Core and complex lipids of several new hyperthermophilic archaeal isolates were analyzed. The organisms belong to the Sulfolobales,Archaeoglobus, Pyrobaculum, and Methanococcus. A detailed structural investigation of complex lipids of Pyrobaculum species is reported. The different lipid structures are of help for
a rapid and simple phylogenetic classification of the new isolates. They are in agreement with the classification based on other features
Itinerari turistici per la mobilità sostenibile: un’applicazione nell’area salentina
Nell’ambito del progetto strategico di cooperazione transfrontaliera Interreg V-A Grecia-Italia 2014/2020 denominato “AI SMART_Adriatic Ionian Small Port Network”, sono stati definiti due itinerari volti alla interazione del porto di Otranto con i territori dell’entroterra e con la opposta costa ionica, al fine di incentivare la fruizione turistica transnazionale sostenibile ed inclusiva del territorio pugliese.
La genesi dei due itinerari tematici nasce dalla necessitĂ /volontĂ di valorizzare alcune aree del Salento, attraverso il collegamento di nodi significativi per valenza paesaggistica, architettonica e storica, che definiscono due percorsi che vedono quali vertici Pulsano e Otranto. Sustainable tourism supported by the drafting of the Crossborder Sustainable Mobility Plan (PTMS) between southern Italy and Epirus in Greece
The drafting of a cross-border Sustainable Mobility Plan, developed within the framework of the European project, financed by the Interreg Greece-Italy Cooperation Programme 2014-2020, highlights the importance of a synergic and systemic approach to cope with the need to agree on sustainable accessibility models at international and local level for the development of tourism that is sensitive to the environmental, social and economic needs of the territories. The imperative from which the research starts is the imminent urgency of providing systemic sustainability solutions for which transport assumes a central role. The Cross-Border Sustainable Mobility Plan (PTMS) was drawn up taking into account international, national and local transport plans and programmes, with particular attention to existing SUMPs (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans), and then proposes alternative solutions to the most polluting ones and lays the foundations for the possible activation of new maritime lines connecting southern Salento (Italy) with Epirus (Greece)
Current trends on seaweeds: Looking at chemical composition, phytopharmacology, and cosmetic applications
Seaweeds have received huge interest in recent years given their promising potentialities. Their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, hypolipemic, and anticoagulant effects are among the most renowned and studied bioactivities so far, and these effects have been increasingly associated with their content and richness in both primary and secondary metabolites. Although primary metabolites have a pivotal importance such as their content in polysaccharides (fucoidans, agars, carragenans, ulvans, alginates, and laminarin), recent data have shown that the content in some secondary metabolites largely determines the effective bioactive potential of seaweeds. Among these secondary metabolites, phenolic compounds feature prominently. Passenger Dimensions in Sustainable Multimodal Mobility Services
Seamless integration of air segment in the overall multimodal mobility chain is a key challenge to provide more efficient and sustainable transport services. Technology advances offer a unique opportunity to build a new generation of transport services able to match the evolving expectations and needs of society as a whole. In this context, the passenger-centric approach represents a method to inform the design of future mobility services, supporting quality of life, security and services to citizens traveling across Europe. Relying on the concepts of inclusive design, context of use and task analysis, in this article, we present a comprehensive methodological framework for the analysis of passenger characteristics to elicit features and requirements for future multimodal mobility services, including air leg, that are relevant from the perspective of passengers. The proposed methodology was applied to a series of specific use cases envisaged for three time horizons, 2025, 2035 and 2050, in the context of a European research project. Then, passenger-focused key performance indicators and related metrics were derived to be included in a validation step, with the aim of assessing the extent of benefit for passengers that can be achieved in the forecasted scenarios. The results of the study demonstrate the relevance of human variability in the design of public services, as well as the feasibility of personalized performance assessment of mobility services
Degradative actions of microbial xylanolytic activities on hemicelluloses from rhizome of Arundo donax
Polysaccharidases from extremophiles are remarkable for specific action, resistance to different reaction conditions and other biotechnologically interesting features. In this article the action of crude extracts of thermophilic microorganisms (Thermotoga neapolitana, Geobacillus thermantarcticus and Thermoanaerobacterium thermostercoris) is studied using as substrate hemicellulose from one of the most interesting biomass crops, the giant reed (Arundo donax L.). This biomass can be cultivated without competition and a huge amount of rhizomes remains in the soil at the end of cropping cycle (10–15 years) representing a further source of useful molecules. Optimization of the procedure for preparation of the hemicellulose fraction from rhizomes of Arundo donax, is studied. Polysaccharidases from crude extracts of thermophilic microorganisms revealed to be suitable for total degradative action and/or production of small useful oligosaccharides from hemicelluloses from A. donax. Xylobiose and interesting tetra- and pentasaccharide are obtained by enzymatic action in different conditions. Convenient amount of raw material was processed per mg of crude enzymes. Raw hemicelluloses and pretreated material show antioxidant activity unlike isolated tetra- and pentasaccharide. The body of results suggest that rhizomes represent a useful raw material for the production of valuable industrial products, thus allowing to increase the economic efficiency of A. donax cultivation
