Petrographic Characteristics and Depositional Environment Evolution of Middle Miocene Sediments in the Thien Ung - Mang Cau Structure of Nam Con Son Basin
This paper introduces the petrographic characteristics and depositional environment of Middle Miocene rocks of the Thien Ung - Mang Cau structure in the central area of Nam Con Son Basin based on the results of analyzing thin sections and structural characteristics of core samples. Middle Miocene sedimentary rocks in the studied area can be divided into three groups: (1) Group of terrigenous rocks comprising greywacke sandstone, arkosic sandstone, lithic-quartz sandstone, greywacke-lithic sandstone, oligomictic siltstone, and bitumenous claystone; (2) Group of carbonate rocks comprising dolomitic limestone and bituminous limestone; (3) Mixed group comprising calcareous sandstone, calcarinate sandstone, arenaceous limestone, calcareous claystone, calcareous silty claystone, dolomitic limestone containing silt, and bitumen. The depositional environment is expressed through petrographic characteristics and structure of the sedimentary rocks in core samples. The greywacke and arkosic sandstones are of medium grain size, poor sorting and roundness, and siliceous cement characterizing the alluvial and estuarine fan environment expressed by massive structure of core samples. The mixed calcareous limestone, arenaceous dolomitic limestone, and calcareous and bituminous clayey siltstone in the core samples are of turbulent flow structure characterizing shallow bay environment with the action of bottom currents. The dolomitic limestones are of relatively homogeneous, of microgranular and fine-granular texture, precipitated in a weakly reducing, semi-closed, and relatively calm bay environment
Supramolecular aggregation in dithia-arsoles: chlorides, cations and N-centred paddlewheels
The benzo-fused dithia-chloro-arsole derivative C6H4S2AsCl (1) is found to crystallise in the triclinic space group P[1 with combining macron] with 17 molecules in the asymmetric unit whereas the tolyl derivative, MeC6H3S2AsCl (2) is polymorphic with the α-phase crystallising in the monoclinic space group P21/c with a single molecule in the asymmetric unit and the β-phase adopting a triclinic structure with two molecules in the asymmetric unit. Reaction of these dithia-chloro-arsole derivatives with LiN(SiMe3)2 in a 3 : 1 mole ratio afforded the unique paddlewheel structure (MeC6H4S2As)3N (4)
Structure-property-reactivity studies on dithiaphospholes
The reaction of either toluene-3,4-dithiol or benzene dithiol with phosphorus(III) trihalides generates the
corresponding benzo-fused 1,3,2-dithiaphospholes, RC6H3S2PX (R = Me (1), R = H (2); X = Cl, Br, I).
The P-chloro-dithiaphospholes undergo: (a) halogen abstraction reactions with Lewis acids forming
phosphenium cations; (b) substitution with LiHMDS base and; (c) reduction chemistry with sodium metal
to generate the P–P σ-bonded dimer, (RC6H3S2P)2. Reduction catalysis of aldehydes with pinacolborane
using dithiaphospholes is compared with their dioxaphosphole and diazaphosphole counterparts as precatalysts,
revealing interesting differences in the reactivity of this series of compounds

Ba2YFeO5 with 80 atm of oxygen pressure at 410
°C results in the formation of the Fe4+ phase Ba2YFeO5.5. The topochemical insertion of oxide ions
lifts the inversion symmetry of the centrosymmetric host phase, Ba2YFeO5 (space group <i>P</i>21/<i>n</i>), to yield a noncentrosymmetric (NCS) phase Ba2YFeO5.5 (space group <i>Pb</i>21<i>m</i> (No. 26), <i>a</i> = 12.1320(2) Å, <i>b</i> = 6.0606(1) Å, <i>c</i> = 8.0956(1) Å, <i>V</i> = 595.257(2) Å3) confirmed by the observation
of second-harmonic generation. Dielectric and PUND ferroelectric measurements,
however, show no evidence for a switchable ferroelectric polarization,
limiting the material to pyroelectric behavior. Magnetization and
low-temperature neutron diffraction data indicate that Ba2YFeO5.5 undergoes a magnetic transition at 20 K to adopt
a state which exhibits a combination of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic
order. The symmetry breaking from centrosymmetric to polar noncentrosymmetric,
which occurs during the topochemical oxidation process is discussed
on the basis of induced lattice strain and an electronic instability
and represents a new strategy for the preparation of NCS materials
that readily incorporate paramagnetic transition metal centers

Polar and Magnetic Mn2FeMO6 (M = Nb, Ta) with LiNbO3-type Structure - High Pressure Synthesis
Polar oxides are of much interest in materials science and engineering. Their symmetry-dependent properties such as ferroelectricity/multiferroics, piezoelectricity, pyroelectricity, and second-order harmonic generation (SHG) effect are important for technological applications. However, polar crystal design and synthesis is challenging, because multiple effects, such as steric or dipole-dipole interactions, typically combine to form non-polar structures; so the number of known polar materials, especially polar magnetoelectric materials, is still severely restricted. Therefore, it is necessary for the material science community to develop new strategies to create these materials
Mapping for engagement: setting up a community based participatory research project to reach underserved communities at risk for Hepatitis C in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Background: Approximately 1. 07 million people in Vietnam are infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV). To address this epidemic, the South East Asian Research Collaborative in Hepatitis (SEARCH) launched a 600-patient cohort study and two clinical trials, both investigating shortened treatment strategies for chronic HCV infection with direct-acting antiviral drugs. We conducted ethnographic research with a subset of trial participants and found that the majority were aware of HCV infection and its implications and were motivated to seek treatment. However, people who inject drugs (PWID), and other groups at risk for HCV were under-represented, although injecting drug use is associated with high rates of HCV. Material and Methods: We designed a community-based participatory research (CBPR) study to engage in dialogues surrounding HCV and other community-prioritized health issues with underserved groups at risk for HCV in Ho Chi Minh City. The project consists of three phases: situation analysis, CBPR implementation, and dissemination. In this paper, we describe the results of the first phase (i.e., the situation analysis) in which we conducted desk research and organized stakeholder mapping meetings with representatives from local non-government and community-based organizations where we used participatory research methods to identify and analyze key stakeholders working with underserved populations. Results: Twenty six institutions or groups working with the key underserved populations were identified. Insights about the challenges and dynamics of underserved communities were also gathered. Two working groups made up of representatives from the NGO and CBO level were formed. Discussion: Using the information provided by local key stakeholders to shape the project has helped us to build solid relationships, give the groups a sense of ownership from the early stages, and made the project more context specific. These steps are not only important preliminary steps for participatory studies but also for other research that takes place within the communities
Associations of Underlying Health Conditions With Anxiety and Depression Among Outpatients: Modification Effects of Suspected COVID-19 Symptoms, Health-Related and Preventive Behaviors
Objectives: We explored the association of underlying health conditions (UHC) with depression and anxiety, and examined the modification effects of suspected COVID-19 symptoms (S-COVID-19-S), health-related behaviors (HB), and preventive behaviors (PB).Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 8,291 outpatients aged 18–85 years, in 18 hospitals and health centers across Vietnam from 14th February to May 31, 2020. We collected the data regarding participant's characteristics, UHC, HB, PB, depression, and anxiety. Results: People with UHC had higher odds of depression (OR = 2.11; p < 0.001) and anxiety (OR = 2.86; p < 0.001) than those without UHC. The odds of depression and anxiety were significantly higher for those with UHC and S-COVID-19-S (p < 0.001); and were significantly lower for those had UHC and interacted with “unchanged/more” physical activity (p < 0.001), or “unchanged/more” drinking (p < 0.001 for only anxiety), or “unchanged/healthier” eating (p < 0.001), and high PB score (p < 0.001), as compared to those without UHC and without S-COVID-19-S, “never/stopped/less” physical activity, drinking, “less healthy” eating, and low PB score, respectively. Conclusion: S-COVID-19-S worsen psychological health in patients with UHC. Physical activity, drinking, healthier eating, and high PB score were protective factors
Chromium Stress Mitigation by Polyamine-Brassinosteroid Application Involves Phytohormonal and Physiological Strategies in Raphanus sativus L.
Brassinosteroids (BRs) and polyamines (PAs) are well-established growth regulators playing key roles in stress management among plants. In the present study, we evaluated the effects of epibrassinolide (EBL, an active BR) and spermidine (Spd, an active PA) on the tolerance of radish to oxidative stress induced by Cr (VI) metal. Our investigation aimed to study the impacts of EBL (10−9 M) and/or Spd (1 mM) on the biochemical and physiological responses of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) under Cr-stress. Applications of EBL and/or Spd were found to improve growth of Cr-stressed seedlings in terms of root length, shoot length and fresh weight. Our data also indicated that applications of EBL and Spd have significant impacts, particularly when applied together, on the endogenous titers of PAs, free and bound forms of IAA and ABA in seedlings treated with Cr-stress. Additionally, co-applications of EBL and Spd modulated more remarkably the titers of antioxidants (glutathione, ascorbic acid, proline, glycine betaine and total phenol) and activities of antioxidant enzymes (guaicol peroxidase, catalase, superoxide dismutase and glutathione reductase) in Cr-stressed plants than their individual applications. Attenuation of Cr-stress by EBL and/or Spd (more efficient with EBL and Spd combination) was also supported by enhanced values of stress indices, such as phytochelatins, photosynthetic pigments and total soluble sugars, and reduction in malondialdehyde and H2O2 levels in Cr-treated seedlings. Diminution of ROS production and enhanced ROS scavenging capacities were also noted for EBL and/or Spd under Cr-stress. However, no significant reduction in Cr uptake was observed for co-application of EBL and Spd when compared to their individual treatments in Cr-stressed seedlings. Taken together, our results demonstrate that co-applications of EBL and Spd are more effective than their independent treatments in lowering the Cr-induced oxidative stress in radish, leading to improved growth of radish seedlings under Cr-stress
High Pro-Inflammatory Cytokine Secretion and Loss of High Avidity Cross-Reactive Cytotoxic T-Cells during the Course of Secondary Dengue Virus Infection
BACKGROUND: Dengue is one of the most important human diseases transmitted by an arthropod vector and the incidence of dengue virus infection has been increasing - over half the world's population now live in areas at risk of infection. Most infections are asymptomatic, but a subset of patients experience a potentially fatal shock syndrome characterised by plasma leakage. Severe forms of dengue are epidemiologically associated with repeated infection by more than one of the four dengue virus serotypes. Generally attributed to the phenomenon of antibody-dependent enhancement, recent observations indicate that T-cells may also influence disease phenotype. METHODS AND FINDINGS: Virus-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) showing high level cross reactivity between dengue serotypes could be expanded from blood samples taken during the acute phase of secondary dengue infection. These could not be detected in convalescence when only CTL populations demonstrating significant serotype specificity were identified. Dengue cross-reactive CTL clones derived from these patients were of higher avidity than serotype-specific clones and produced much higher levels of both type 1 and certain type 2 cytokines, many previously implicated in dengue pathogenesis. CONCLUSION: Dengue serotype cross-reactive CTL clones showing high avidity for antigen produce higher levels of inflammatory cytokines than serotype-specific clones. That such cells cannot be expanded from convalescent samples suggests that they may be depleted, perhaps as a consequence of activation-induced cell death. Such high avidity cross-reactive memory CTL may produce inflammatory cytokines during the course of secondary infection, contributing to the pathogenesis of vascular leak. These cells appear to be subsequently deleted leaving a more serotype-specific memory CTL pool. Further studies are needed to relate these cellular observations to disease phenotype in a large group of patients. If confirmed they have significant implications for understanding the role of virus-specific CTL in pathogenesis of dengue disease
Replication and single-cycle delivery of SARS-CoV-2 replicons
Molecular virology tools are critical for basic studies of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and for developing new therapeutics. There remains a need for experimental systems that do not rely on viruses capable of spread that could potentially be used in lower containment settings. Here, we develop spike-deleted SARS-CoV-2 self-replicating RNAs using a yeast-based reverse genetics system. These non-infectious self-replicating RNAs, or replicons, can be trans-complemented with viral glycoproteins to generate Replicon Delivery Particles (RDPs) for single-cycle delivery into a range of cell types. This SARS-CoV-2 replicon system represents a convenient and versatile platform for antiviral drug screening, neutralization assays, host factor validation, and characterizing viral variants
