Challenges for Nursing Students in the Clinical Learning Environment

    Get PDF
The study aimed to survey the problems/challenges nursing students of Hong Bang International University (HIU) reported facing in the clinical environment. These factors might be a barrier or motivation for a student\u27s clinical learning. In addition, collecting the information through this research helped explore the real difficulties that might exist when students practice clinical care. This data will help to develop appropriate recommendations to improve the quality of training as well as reduce the burden on nursing students. A descriptive cross-sectional design was used. Sixty-nine third-year nursing students (58 females and 11 males) of the Bachelor of Nursing Program from HIU, Vietnam participated in answering the Vietnamese version of Clinical Learning Environment Inventory (V-CLEI) to provide an evaluation about the clinical learning environment (CLE). The results have shown a number of challenges and motivation for the students’ learning process in the CLE. The V-CLEI questionnaire was determined to be a reliable tool in this study. The result of the research indicated some challenges in the CLE for nursing students usually related to interpersonal relationships often with stakeholders or other health workers. Nursing students are not really aware of their role in clinical practice sessions, which could also become one of the barriers for this learning environment. Furthermore, students are less empowered and dominated by the work they do. However, a high appreciation for clinical instructors could be seen as a motivation to push the clinical learning process for nursing students in Vietnam

Vietnam has recorded as one of the new areas in the transnational flows of illicit at Southeast Asia. Locating at the close outbound of the Golden Triangle – the second hub of opium cultivation around the world, Vietnam has been impacting, directly or indirectly, on drug production, consumption, and trafficking in recent years. Meanwhile, at the current moment, in Vietnam, the situation of a drug crime has been experiencing complicated happenings with increasingly sophisticated, artful nature and artifice. This paper provides the overall background of Vietnam via clarifying a geographical feature to impact on borderlines on land and sea about the Southeast Asia region. Besides, the study analyses the picture of the current situation of drug trafficking in Vietnam, particularly focusing on trends and patterns of drug-related crimes in the borderland and on the sea routes among Vietnam and other shared borders, including China, Cambodia, and Laos. Main reasons to explain why Vietnam has been becoming as a transnational hub in the region that also assess carefully in the next section before demonstrating the role of Vietnam’s authorities to cooperate and collaborate with other nations to combat transnational drug trafficking. Some recommendations and proposals to improve the effectiveness of international cooperation to fight drug-related crimes are also called for further researches. The fight against money laundering is a special concern of international, regional, and national scale. In recent years, Vietnam is a country that is significantly affected by this type of crime. To combat money laundering need not only to strengthen domestic legislation’s system and professional task forces, but also to enhance international cooperation among multilateral and bilateral agreements between host countries and their counterparts. Using the document analysis combined with legal norm’s analysis, this paper draws the nature of money laundering in Vietnam and also analysis Vietnam’s perspectives to implement their national efforts to curb this crime. The research highlights the significant role of international cooperation in this battle rather than building national improvements. Some recommendations to improve the effectiveness of international cooperation to fight money laundering in general as well as to enhance policing plans of Vietnam’s law enforcement agencies that call for special attentions in the end of the research. Keywords: Money laundering, money laundering prevention, international cooperation, VietnamDOI: 10.7176/JLPG/96-09Publication date: April 30th 202

In recent years, Vietnam has recorded as transnational hubs among of complicate region relating human trafficking. The distinguish features of geography shared borderland with three countries, namely Cambodia, China and Laos, making cross-border trafficking in persons more dynamic and even more challenged for law enforcement agencies to prevent and combat this crime. Alongside with internal efforts to anticipate human trafficking, from 2010 to 2020, Vietnam’s government implemented officially two national programs on prevention and combating human trafficking with a number of specific projects and its related goals. Amongst, to enhance international cooperation between neighbored countries and regional and international partnerships that is considered as one of the most prioritized strategies of Vietnam. This paper focuses on analysis policies and implications of Vietnam through providing details of the current viewpoints in international cooperation to fight trafficking in human beings. Some main trends and patterns of human trafficking in Vietnam in the past years will illustrate the nature of complex situation. Then, some recommendations call for further research to ensure the effectiveness of international cooperation. Programming Manikins: A Video Training Module for the Gaumard UNI Software

    Get PDF
Nursing training has in the past relied on students’ assessment of each other, and procedural practice was at the expense of actual on-the-job training with real patients. However, with today’s technologies, exposure to realistic manikins that can replicate physiology is making it possible for better and safer training. Nursing simulation centers are now the hub for such education, training, and practice. But having competent staff to operate the manikins can come at a high cost for technical training. This Instructional Design project aims to support staff turnover and training with an online video-based instructional module that can serve as both a refresher and reference resource. The Dick and Carey model for instructional design was used to develop the module following the cognitive domain with Gagne’s 9 Events of Instruction. Specifically, video modules for the Gaumard Manikin UNI Software were created using the screen capturing tool, Camtasia, and hosted on Google Sites (https://sites.google.com/a/hawaii.edu/uni). The training focused on how to navigate the software to operate the manikin using pre-existing programmed scenarios, on-the-fly without a programmed scenario, and how to program one’s own scenario for use. Fifteen participants completed the online self-paced module that involved a demographics pre-survey, pre-test, three parts with embedded test questions, post-test, and a post-attitudinal survey. Results showed improvements across the board from pre- to post-test, suggesting that the module is effective as a review and resource for both old and new staff regardless of their experience with the manikin technology

Urban Green Amenity and City Structure

One of the main components that make cities attractive to their residents is their public park and garden systems. Green urban areas from a small community garden to famous areas such as `Jardin du Luxembourg' in Paris not only shape the face of the city but are a quintessential aspect of the quality of life for local inhabitants. They offer places for local recreation, beautiful views, cleaner air and many other advantages. Recent research has validated the connection between urban parks and the well-being of the city's inhabitants. Although green urban areas might seem to be meagre in comparison with other natural ecosystems such as wetlands or forests, the value of the environmental, recreational, and other services they offer is likely to be disproportionally high due to their strategic locations. This dissertation focuses on studying the optimal provision of green urban areas and the welfare effects of a substantial change in green provision policies in the presence of other types of land uses and adverse shocks. It comprises four papers (chapters)

Optimal control of switched capacitor banks in Vietnam distribution network using integer genetic algorithm

    Get PDF
In distribution network, power and energy losses can be reduced by using switched capacitor banks. The capacitor banks can be switched on or off based on voltage profile or power factor or using timers. Due to variation of load, it is necessary to control the capacitor banks switching in function of load curve. This paper presents the application of an integer genetic algorithm to determine the optimal number of banks corresponding with hourly load to minimize total active power losses of distribution feeders. The problem constraints include voltage profile and heat conditions which are taken into account to the objective function by a penalty function. In this application, the structure of chromosomes is a set of numbers of the capacitor banks hourly connected to the grid. The proposed formulation is validated by a feeder. The result shows that in some cases, the active power losses at maximum compensation are greater than the ones of optimal control compensation, and the voltage reaches a higher level than the maximum voltage limit. The optimal control of switched capacitor banks can reduce power and energy losses as well as ensure maximum voltage profile within the limit
