Informational structures and informational fields as a prototype for the description of postulates of the integrated information theory

    Get PDF
Informational Structures (IS) and Informational Fields (IF) have been recently introduced to deal with a continuous dynamical systems-based approach to Integrated Information Theory (IIT). IS and IF contain all the geometrical and topological constraints in the phase space. This allows one to characterize all the past and future dynamical scenarios for a system in any particular state. In this paper, we develop further steps in this direction, describing a proper continuous framework for an abstract formulation, which could serve as a prototype of the IIT postulates.

El castillo de San Miguel de Arca de Buey, torres almenaras de Punta Umbría o El Catalán, y otras mucho menos conocidas como las del Terrón o Marijata, configuraron el sistema defensivo que procuró, con modestos resultados, la seguridad de poblaciones como San Miguel, El Rincón de San Antón, El Terrón, Cartaya o Lepe.____________________Surveillance and defence of the coast between the rivers Piedras and Odiel The great efforts made to guard and defend the coast throughout history were justified in the constant dangers that threatened the life on the coast. On the one hand, the sea provided the necessary resources; on the other hand, it also offered risk and lack of safety. In the Piedras-Odiel watershed, as well as all along the Andalusian coast, several systems of defence were developed throughout the years. These systems ranged from the simple guards on foot or horses, that used to communicate by means of lamps, to the interesting defensive buildings staking out this coast. Buildings like San Miguel de Arca de Buey castle, the beacon towers in Punta Umbría and El Catalán, or even some less know towers like El Terrón or Marijata, made up a defensive system that tried to provide, with modest results, the necessary safety to villages like San Miguel, El Rincón de San Antón, El Terrón, Cartaya or Lepe

The Freudenthal compactification of tree-like generalized continua

    Get PDF
Tree-likeness of generalized continua is defined by means of inverse limits of locally finite trees with proper bonding maps. The main theorem of this paper shows that the Freudenthal compactification preserves and reflects tree-likeness. Some consequences of interest are given.

    Get PDF
In this paper we prove that homology manifolds (HML-manifolds) define a singular bordism theory which is the generalized homology theory defined by Martin's spectrum. We use singular characteristic numbers to find some relations between singular HML-bordism and singular DIFF-bordism. Finally we prove that HML-bordism is equivalent to TRI-bordism (TRI = topological triangulated manifolds) in dimensions ≥ 6

Development of an Adaptive Model Predictive Control for Platooning Safety in Battery Electric Vehicles

The recent and continuous improvement in the transportation field provides several different opportunities for enhancing safety and comfort in passenger vehicles. In this context, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) might provide additional benefits, including smoothness of the traffic flow and collision avoidance. In addition, Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication may be exploited in the car-following model to obtain further improvements in safety and comfort by guaranteeing fast response to critical events. In this paper, firstly an Adaptive Model Predictive Control was developed for managing the Cooperative ACC scenario of two vehicles; as a second step, the safety analysis during a cut-in maneuver was performed, extending the platooning vehicles’ number to four. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology was assessed for in different driving scenarios such as diverse cruising speeds, steep accelerations, and aggressive decelerations. Moreover, the controller was validated by considering various speed profiles of the leader vehicle, including a real drive cycle obtained using a random drive cycle generator software. Results demonstrated that the proposed control strategy was capable of ensuring safety in virtually all test cases and quickly responding to unexpected cut-in maneuvers. Indeed, different scenarios have been tested, including acceleration and deceleration phases at high speeds where the control strategy successfully avoided any collision and stabilized the vehicle platoon approximately 20–30 s after the sudden cut-in. Concerning the comfort, it was demonstrated that improvements were possible in the aggressive drive cycle whereas different scenarios were found in the random cycle, depending on where the cut-in maneuver occurred
