    Analysis of Henry Ford’s contribution to production and management

    Henry Ford is widely known as the car constructor, the founder of the Ford Motor Company, the pioneer of mass production and the inventor of the moving assembly line, which many consider as the world’s greatest contribution to manufacturing. In 1908, Ford started production of the Ford Model T, which has become one of the most successful automobile in automotive history. But his contribution far surpasses these excellent accomplishments. What are not well known are Ford’s contributions to the just-in-time production, product platforming, mass customization, vertical integration, designs for maintainability, ergonomic considerations, employee management and other features of the manufacture. The Ford’s production system has become the characteristic American mode of production widespread all over the world

    Study of Influence of Aluminium Content on Machinability of Magnesium Alloys

    This paper describes an experimental investigation on the formation of flank build-up (FBU) during the machining of five commercial magnesium alloys. It was demonstrated that the presence of intermetallic β-phase in magnesium matrix is responsible for the difference in the machinability of magnesium alloys. Experimental tests have revealed that surface defects such as cracks and pores may promote the formation of the FBU. The influence of cutting speed on the FBU formation was studied with the aid of surface roughness, tool forces, and chip form

    Development of a Fuzzy Model for Prediction of Elastomer Properties

    Elastomers are amorphous polymers widely used in many applications. Degradability and durability of elastomers are very important properties, which can be strongly influenced by several types of physical and chemical processes such as impact of weather conditions, aging etc. These processes can cause structural changes, which may lead to the destruction of the quality of elastomer materials, like a deterioration of their mechanical and electrical properties, and ultimately a total loss of material functionality. A large number of investigations with various experimental procedures were carried out in order to provide a better understanding of the relationship between the structure of material and its mechanical properties. This paper presents a Fuzzy model, which was constructed for anticipation of elastomers behavior based on experimental research data. In addition, a linear model was made, based on the measured and literature data, for assessing the effect of radiation and deformation on properties of elastomer specimens. The Normalized Roth Mean Square Error (NRMSE) and the Roth Mean Square Error (RMSE) were used to evaluate the results of the Fuzzy model

    Formation of Built-Up Layer on the Tool in Turning Operation of Magnesium Alloys

    The present work highlights some factors which affect formation of a protective built-up layer (BUL) on the rake face of the cutting tool when cutting magnesium alloys. This work suggests that BUL can positively affect tool life, surface roughness, cutting speed and tool forces. The BUL is formed in cutting magnesium alloys with the PCD tool inserts at cutting speed range from 500 to 2500 m/min and at the carbide tool inserts at lower cutting speed range around 550 m/min. It has been found that deposit layers primarily have similar chemical composition as MnAl inclusions which are incorporated in the structure of the examined AZ91 magnesium alloys

    ASSESSMENT OF THE INFLUENCE OF RADIATION AND DEFORMATION ON THE ELASTOMER DETERIORATION BY USING FUZZY LOGIC

    Elastomers belong to the group of polymer materials and they have an important role as technical material in the shipbuilding industry. The radiation crosslinking of elastomers shows significant advantages over chemical crosslinking. It can improve mechanical strength, resistance to chemicals and insulation properties of elastomers. An undesirable side reaction, which can occur during radiation, is the degradation process. This results in cracks breaking, chemical disintegration and reduction of mechanical properties of elastomers. In this paper fuzzy logic is used to estimate the influence of radiation and deformation on the behavior of elastomer samples. A Gaussian model is created according to both the experts\u27 experience and the measuring data. The results of the model are calculated by using the Normalized Roth Mean Square Error (NRMSE) and the Roth Mean Square Error (RMSE). The so developed model gives new conceptions, which offer a possibility to improve the application of elastomer materials

    Petrinja, Croatia December 29, 2020, Mw 6.4 Earthquake Joint Reconnaissance Report (JRR)

    On December 29, 2020 a magnitude 6.4 earthquake occurred in the Sisak-Moslavina county of Croatia. The earthquake occurred along the Popusko-Petrinja strike slip fault within the Eurasia plate at a depth of 10 km with an epicenter at 45.422°N 16.255°E, three kilometers (km) west-southwest of the city of Petrinja. The maximum intensity of the earthquake was VII (severe) on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale and VIII (heavily damaging) to IX (destructive) on the European Macroseismic Scale (EMS). Due to the earthquake and resulting damage, there were seven fatalities, 26 people were injured, and many hundreds of people were displaced from their homes. The most affected city was Petrinja, but severe damage also occurred in Sisak, Dvor, Glina, Topusko, as well as in Croatia’s capital Zagreb, located approximately 50 km northwest of the epicenter. Damage was also reported in neighboring countries, including Slovenia, located north of Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, located south of this region of Croatia. The purpose of this post-earthquake reconnaissance report is to provide, within a few days of the earthquake, an overview of the hazard characteristics and to summarize preliminary reports of damage to buildings, bridges, roads, and other infrastructure. Moreover, key findings are also summarized with regard to geotechnical failures that include liquefaction, lateral spreading, landslides, sinkholes and damage to the extended levee system along the Kupa, Odra and Sava rivers

    6th International Scientific Conference on Kinesiology: Integrative power of kinesiology : proceedings book

    The Faculty of Kinesiology University of Zagreb is organising the International Conference on Kinesiology for the sixth time. Everything began more than 15 years ago when the initiators – Prof. Milanović, still bursting with new ideas, and the late Prof. Mraković, started to advocate the idea of an international conference as a forum for kinesiologists or sport scientists, as a place where their research findings could be presented and discussed, as a meeting point of globally recognized scientists, or authorities in their field of research and research novices. In those days, in 1997, before the First Conference in Dubrovnik, it all seemed so surreal. However, this conference is alive; it grows and becomes ever more sophisticated. Therefore, it is feasible to expect that the forthcoming discussions, talks, dialogues, or whatever kind of idea exchange will result, as they have until now, with new research ideas, insights, research teams and projects the eventual outcome of which is further advances in kinesiology and the cognate and adjacent scientific areas. The motto of this year’s conference is the “Integrative Power of Kinesiology“. It indicates the close relationships among various scientific fields when they contribute to the promotion of physical exercise and various kinds of physical activities in the areas of kinesiological education, high performance sports, kinesiological recreation, health-enhanced kinesiology, kinesitherapy and rehabilitation, sport for physically and mentally challenged persons, school sports, military kinesiology, and many others. Simultaneously with the organisation of the 6th Conference, the Faculty of Kinesiology is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the publication of the scientific journal KINESIOLOGY. Nowadays it is a recognized international scientific journal with an IF of 0.525 for the year 2010. The Conference and the journal KINESIOLOGY have contributed considerably to the affirmation of the name “kinesiology” in the neighbouring European areas. Although both are focused on science, the Conference and the accompanying regular KINESIOLOGY International Editorial Board meetings have also been opportunities for scholars and institution delegates from all over the world to establish close personal contacts, thus opening doors for joint research projects. The basic scientific concept of the Conference, with the working sections that cover the fundamental and applicative disciplines of kinesiology, has been kept from the beginning. This year’s conference will have 12 oral and poster sections in the framework of which the delegates will present 220 full text contributions and abstracts written by 300 authors from 32 countries. Each presented and published paper or abstract has been subjected to a review process performed by at least two prominent referees. For the first time the Conference is hosting a satellite symposium HEPA (Health Enhanced Physical Activity). The purpose of the symposium is to inform delegates from the neighbouring countries, which have not yet become HEPA association member countries, with the basic principles and directives of the movement and to encourage them to become promoters of the idea of health-oriented physical activity in their communities. The World Health Organization has stimulated the design of the Croatian National Action Plan for the implementation and improvement of HEPA in the Republic of Croatia. A presentation of the Action Plan and the planned round table should also be stimulating to colleagues to undertake similar steps in their communities. From the very beginning the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Fine Arts has given its highly respected patronage to the Conference, thus underpinning the recognition of kinesiology in the structure of sciences. The organisation of such conferences would not be viable without the powerful support from the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sport and the University of Zagreb. The patronage and support are indicators of a notable position the Conference and its organiser, the Faculty of Kinesiology University of Zagreb (established in 1959), have in the Croatian academic and research community. We wish to express much gratitude to all the authors of the papers, reviewers, conference participants, members of the Organisation Committee, Section Leaders, Section Secretaries, technical support staff, and sponsors for their contributions, time and effort inbuilt in the quality of the 6th Conference on Kinesiology and its Proceedings. Our special gratitude goes to the Croatian Office of the World Health Organization. We wish success in the conference work to all the participants and enjoyable time in Opatija. We are convinced the Conference will give the expected impetus to further cooperation between scholars and institutions.
