Building XML data warehouse based on frequent patterns in user queries
[Abstract]: With the proliferation of XML-based data sources available across the Internet, it is increasingly important to provide users with a data warehouse of XML data sources to facilitate decision-making processes. Due to the extremely large amount of XML data available on web, unguided warehousing of XML data turns out to be highly costly and usually cannot well accommodate the users’ needs in XML data acquirement. In this paper, we propose an approach to materialize XML data warehouses based on frequent query patterns discovered from historical queries issued by users. The schemas of integrated XML documents in the warehouse are built using these frequent query patterns represented as Frequent Query Pattern Trees (FreqQPTs). Using hierarchical clustering technique, the integration approach in the data warehouse is flexible with respect to obtaining and maintaining XML documents. Experiments show that the overall processing of the same queries issued against the global schema become much efficient by using the XML data warehouse built than by directly searching the multiple data sources
Abelian Projection on the Torus for general Gauge Groups
We consider Yang-Mills theories with general gauge groups and twists on the four torus. We find consistent boundary conditions for gauge fields in all instanton sectors. An extended Abelian projection with respect to the Polyakov loop operator is presented, where is independent of time and in the Cartan subalgebra. Fundamental domains for the gauge fixed are constructed for arbitrary gauge groups. In the sectors with non-vanishing instanton number such gauge fixings are necessarily singular. The singularities can be restricted to Dirac strings joining magnetically charged defects. The magnetic charges of these monopoles take their values in the co-root lattice of the gauge group. We relate the magnetic charges of the defects and the windings of suitable Higgs fields about these defects to the instanton number
SU(N)-Gauge Theories in Polyakov Gauge on the Torus
We investigate the Abelian projection with respect to the Polyakov loop
operator for SU(N) gauge theories on the four torus. The gauge fixed is
time-independent and diagonal. We construct fundamental domains for . In
sectors with non-vanishing instanton number such gauge fixings are always
singular. The singularities define the positions of magnetically charged
monopoles, strings or walls. These magnetic defects sit on the Gribov horizon
and have quantized magnetic charges. We relate their magnetic charges to the

Unconventional MBE Strategies from Computer Simulations for Optimized Growth Conditions
We investigate the influence of step edge diffusion (SED) and desorption on
Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) using kinetic Monte-Carlo simulations of the
solid-on-solid (SOS) model. Based on these investigations we propose two
strategies to optimize MBE growth. The strategies are applicable in different
growth regimes: During layer-by-layer growth one can exploit the presence of
desorption in order to achieve smooth surfaces. By additional short high flux
pulses of particles one can increase the growth rate and assist layer-by-layer
growth. If, however, mounds are formed (non-layer-by-layer growth) the SED can
be used to control size and shape of the three-dimensional structures. By
controlled reduction of the flux with time we achieve a fast coarsening

Historical Improvement in Speed Skating Economy
Half the improvement in 1500-m speed-skating world records can be explained by technological innovations and the other half by athletic improvement. It is hypothesized that improved skating economy is accountable for much of the athletic improvement.
Purpose - To determine skating economy in contemporary athletes and to evaluate the change in economy over the years.
Methods - Contemporary skaters of the Dutch national junior team (n=8) skated 3 bouts of 6 laps at submaximal velocity, from which skating economy was calculated (in mL O2·kg-1·km-1). A literature search provided historic data of skating velocity and submaximal VO2 (in mL·kg-1·min-1), from which skating economy was determined. The association between year and skating economy was determined using linear regression analysis. Correcting the change in economy for technological innovations resulted in an estimate of the association between year and economy due to athletic improvement.
Results An average (±SD) skating economy of 73.4±6.4 mL O2·kg-1·km-1 was found in contemporary athletes. Skating economy improved significantly over the historical timeframe (-0.57 mL O2·kg-1·km-1 per year, 95% confidence interval [-0.84, -0.31]). In the final regression model for the klapskate era, with altitude as confounder, skating economy improved with a non-significant -0.58 mL O2·kg-1·km-1 each year ([-1.19, 0.035]).
Conclusions Skating economy was 73.4±6.4 mL O2·kg-1·km-1 in contemporary athletes and improved over the past ~50 years. The association between year and skating economy due to athletic improvement, for the klapskate era, approached significance, suggesting a possible improvement in economy over these years
Mapping of the S. demissum late blight resistance gene R8 to a new locus on chromosome IX
The use of resistant varieties is an important tool in the management of late blight, which threatens potato production worldwide. Clone MaR8 from the Mastenbroek differential set has strong resistance to Phytophthora infestans, the causal agent of late blight. The F1 progeny of a cross between the susceptible cultivar Concurrent and MaR8 were assessed for late blight resistance in field trials inoculated with an incompatible P. infestans isolate. A 1:1 segregation of resistance and susceptibility was observed, indicating that the resistance gene referred to as R8, is present in simplex in the tetraploid MaR8 clone. NBS profiling and successive marker sequence comparison to the potato and tomato genome draft sequences, suggested that the R8 gene is located on the long arm of chromosome IX and not on the short arm of chromosome XI as was suggested previously. Analysis of SSR, CAPS and SCAR markers confirmed that R8 was on the distal end of the long arm of chromosome IX. R gene cluster directed profiling markers CDPSw54 and CDPSw55 flanked the R8 gene at the distal end (1 cM). CDPTm21-1, CDPTm21-2 and CDPTm22 flanked the R8 gene on the proximal side (2 cM). An additional co-segregating marker (CDPHero3) was found, which will be useful for marker assisted breeding and map based cloning of R8

The extended growth of graphene oxide flakes using ethanol CVD
We report the extended growth of Graphene Oxide (GO) flakes using atmospheric pressure ethanol Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD).
GO was used to catalyze the deposition of carbon on substrate in the ethanol CVD with Ar and H2 as carrier gases. Raman, SEM, XPS
10 and AFM characterized the growth to be reduced GO (RGO) of <5 layers. This new grown RGO possesses lower defect density with
larger and increased distribution of sp2 domains than chemically-reduced RGO. Furthermore this method without optimization reduces
relative standard deviation of electrical conductivity between chips, from 80.5% to 16.5%, enabling RGO to be used in practical
electronic devices
