Aim. To study features and risk factors  of soft tissue's invasive streptococcal infection in surgical unit's patients: a) emm-types of the most often recovered streptococcus; b) human immune response for streptococcal antigens (streptolysin-O and the group A carbohydrate antigen); c) main patient's conditions that complicate the course of soft tissue's streptococcal infection. Patients and methods. 101 surgical unit's patients with soft tissue's infection, which group A streptococcal (GAS) nature, were examined. Emm-types were determined by comparison of emm gene sequenced part with data of CDC Streptococcus Laboratory. ASO and specific anti-group-carbohydrate IgM were measured with photometry and ELISA accordingly.  Patient’s personal data were analyzed by standard statistical programs. Results. Among 34 emm-types of all streptococcal isolates emm28 and emm64 were registered only in invasive infection.  Emm-types 1, 49, 60, 66, 77, 84, 88 were most often. Among 23 sera from invasive GAS-infection's patients, 15 (65%) were ASO-negative, 6 (26%) were ASO-low-positive, and 2 (8%) were positive, but negative for the anti-group-A-carbohydrate IgM. Conclusion. Lower levels of the humoral immune response as well as risk factors such as trauma, alcoholism, diabetes, chronic venous insufficiency contributed to development of severe forms of GAS-infection. The main streptococcal emm-types for soft tissue's invasive GAS infection in one of Moscow surgical unit's patients in 2008-2011 were registered.

Limits on the production of scalar leptoquarks from Z (0) decays at LEP

A search has been made for pairs and for single production of scalar leptoquarks of the first and second generations using a data sample of 392000 Z0 decays from the DELPHI detector at LEP 1. No signal was found and limits on the leptoquark mass, production cross section and branching ratio were set. A mass limit at 95% confidence level of 45.5 GeV/c2 was obtained for leptoquark pair production. The search for the production of a single leptoquark probed the mass region above this limit and its results exclude first and second generation leptoquarks D0 with masses below 65 GeV/c2 and 73 GeV/c2 respectively, at 95% confidence level, assuming that the D0lq Yukawa coupling alpha(lambda) is equal to the electromagnetic one. An upper limit is also given on the coupling alpha(lambda) as a function of the leptoquark mass m(D0)

Objectives: to determine the rate of modern thematic module "Organizational Behavior" (Fundamentals of Management) from "Healthcare Management" course) for students of Department of Raising Skills and Professional Development for Saratov State Medical University specialists. Material and methods. 61 students — medical administrators and specialists — were anonymously surveyed after their vocational training with the help of a specially designed questionnaire. The received data were processed mathematically and statistically with "Statistica-10" program. Results. The modern issues of the studied course is evaluated differently by groups of medical administrators and specialists. Medical administrators' rate has been higher than specialists'. Both groups' rate is "higher than average". Conclusion. Doctors clearly realize the necessity of professional development in management and have a clear idea of the areas where they lack professional skills. The conducted monitoring of students' opinion implies forehanded reaction to doctors' demands, increasing effectiveness of their training and level of their satisfaction as well as marketability of the higher educational institution providing the demanded educational services

The aim of the current study was to comparative assessment of the antioxidant enzymes activity (peroxidase, catalase, glutathione S-transferase) in endemic species Gmelinoides fasciatus (Stebbing, 1899) inhabitants of the littoral community of the Lake Baikal and the thermal spring under short term thermal stress. It was shown, that the exposure of G. fasciatus from different areas to acute temperature stress didn’t lead to changes in the activities of three key enzymes of the antioxidant system. However, it was found that the activity of glutathione S-transferase in the control animals of thermal springs population is higher than in animals of Lake Baikal. This can be determined by peculiarities of environment of different populations

Among globally relevant combustion sources, such as diesel emission and biomass burning, gas flaring remains the most uncertain. In this study, small-scale turbulent gas flaring was used to characterize particulate emissions produced under different operating conditions, such as various burner diameters and exit velocities. The composition of the fuel was also varied by modifying the perce

Optical-microphysical and physical-chemical characteristics of Siberian biomass burning: Experiments in Aerosol Chamber.

A series of experiments aimed at studying the effect of combustion regimes of typical Siberian biomasses on the optical, microphysical, and physical-chemical properties of smoke aerosols was performed in the Large Aerosol Chambe, Institute of Atmospheric Optics, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences. A comprehensive data analysis showed that temperature regime of Siberian pine and coniferous tree burning has a key effect on the formation and time dynamics of all smoke characteristics. The polarization spectronephelometer measurements of light scattering are used to determine the size distributions and absorption indices of particles. Particles in the smoldering phase are weakly absorbing, but the mixed phase contains a strongly absorbing fine component produced in open flame phases. We studied microstructure characteristics of aerosols by the analysis of morphology and elemental composition. Groups of soot and organic particles were determined as micromarkers of emissions in open flaming and smoldering phases, respectively. The organic and elemental carbon contents, origin and concentration of chemical compounds in the water-soluble ion fraction exhibit a strong dependence on the combustion phase. Sugar anhydride (levoglucosan) was determined in the smoldering phase as a stable molecular marker of Siberian pine burning. A number of specific markers of coniferous wood burning were identified among the chemical compounds. Smoke aging is accompanied by condensation of organic and inorganic compounds, transformation of aerosol surface chemistry, and the formation of the group of potassium-rich particles, all demonstrating the complexity and variability of the chemical composition and microstructure of atmospheric aerosol pollution during Siberian forest fires
