    Concepts, Structure and Developments of High-Reliability Cyber-Physical Fusion Based Coordinated Planning for Distribution System

    Coordinated control is imperative for the distribution network with the integration of wind power, photovoltaic system, and energy storage system. Meanwhile, the advanced automation terminal, intelligent control technology, and information communication technologies have greatly promoted the informatization of distribution networks which also increase the correlation between the physical system (primary system) and the cyber system (secondary system). Hence, it is critical to comprehensively coordinate the planning of the cyber-physical system for building a highly reliable power grid. This work summarizes a series of challenges brought by the highly coupled cyber-physical system, such as the primary and secondary collaborated planning models and solution algorithms. Then, the reliability assessment theories of cyber-physical systems and their application in distribution network planning models are introduced. Finally, three development directions of distribution network planning in the future are proposed, considering primary and secondary system coordinated planning

    Creative destruction in science

    Drawing on the concept of a gale of creative destruction in a capitalistic economy, we argue that initiatives to assess the robustness of findings in the organizational literature should aim to simultaneously test competing ideas operating in the same theoretical space. In other words, replication efforts should seek not just to support or question the original findings, but also to replace them with revised, stronger theories with greater explanatory power. Achieving this will typically require adding new measures, conditions, and subject populations to research designs, in order to carry out conceptual tests of multiple theories in addition to directly replicating the original findings. To illustrate the value of the creative destruction approach for theory pruning in organizational scholarship, we describe recent replication initiatives re-examining culture and work morality, working parents\u2019 reasoning about day care options, and gender discrimination in hiring decisions. Significance statement It is becoming increasingly clear that many, if not most, published research findings across scientific fields are not readily replicable when the same method is repeated. Although extremely valuable, failed replications risk leaving a theoretical void\u2014 reducing confidence the original theoretical prediction is true, but not replacing it with positive evidence in favor of an alternative theory. We introduce the creative destruction approach to replication, which combines theory pruning methods from the field of management with emerging best practices from the open science movement, with the aim of making replications as generative as possible. In effect, we advocate for a Replication 2.0 movement in which the goal shifts from checking on the reliability of past findings to actively engaging in competitive theory testing and theory building.     Numerical and Experimental Study on Trimaran Cross-Deck Structure’s Fatigue Characteristics Based on the Spectral Fatigue Method

    Spectral fatigue analysis is performed on the trimaran cross-deck structural detail. A global finite element (FE) model with local fine meshes at hot spot locations is built for the calculation of structural response. Three-dimensional linear potential flow theory and global FE analysis are used for wave load and stress transfer function calculations. Then, the hot spots’ fatigue damage is calculated, considering various factors influencing spectral analysis, which includes cycle counting correction factors, wave scatter diagram, and the distribution coefficient of wave headings. A full-scale model fatigue test is used to investigate the fatigue behavior of the cross-deck structural detail. Using the fatigue test data, the curve characteristic of the cross-deck structural detail is produced. Finally, the trimaran cross-deck structural detail’s fatigue characteristics are summarized and the effects of the factors influencing spectral fatigue analysis are reported

    Value Iteration Networks with Double Estimator for Planetary Rover Path Planning

    Path planning technology is significant for planetary rovers that perform exploration missions in unfamiliar environments. In this work, we propose a novel global path planning algorithm, based on the value iteration network (VIN), which is embedded within a differentiable planning module, built on the value iteration (VI) algorithm, and has emerged as an effective method to learn to plan. Despite the capability of learning environment dynamics and performing long-range reasoning, the VIN suffers from several limitations, including sensitivity to initialization and poor performance in large-scale domains. We introduce the double value iteration network (dVIN), which decouples action selection and value estimation in the VI module, using the weighted double estimator method to approximate the maximum expected value, instead of maximizing over the estimated action value. We have devised a simple, yet effective, two-stage training strategy for VI-based models to address the problem of high computational cost and poor performance in large-size domains. We evaluate the dVIN on planning problems in grid-world domains and realistic datasets, generated from terrain images of a moon landscape. We show that our dVIN empirically outperforms the baseline methods and generalize better to large-scale environments

    Dynamic modeling and three-dimensional motion simulation of a disk type underwater glider

    Disk type underwater gliders are a new type of underwater gliders and they could glide in various directions by adjusting the internal structures, making a turnaround like conventional gliders unnecessary. This characteristic of disk type underwater gliders makes them have great potential application in virtual mooring. Considering dynamic models of conventional underwater gliders could not adequately satisfy the motion characteristic of disk type underwater gliders, a nonlinear dynamic model for the motion simulation of disk type underwater glider is developed in this paper. In the model, the effect of internal masses movement is taken into consideration and a viscous hydrodynamic calculation method satisfying the motion characteristic of disk type underwater gliders is proposed. Through simulating typical motions of a disk type underwater glider, the feasibility of the dynamic model is validated and the disk type underwater glider shows good maneuverability.
