    In this article, we begin by providing reasons for students and teachers to collaborate, and then we define teaching so that it is feasible to consider students as co-teachers. We briefly explain the methods that allow students to become co-teachers. Through thee vignettes, we show the student co-teachers in action and illustrate five elements of the cooperative teaching and learning process in action. We summarize the emerging research base on students as coteachers, provide a method for student co-teachers to be assessed, and examine perceived challenges to engaging students as co-teachers.Comenzamos este artículo proporcionando razones para que profesores y estudiantes desarrollen funciones docentes colaborativas y luego definimos el concepto de enseñanza, de modo que sea factible considerar a los estudiantes como co-enseñantes. Brevemente, explicamos los métodos que permiten a los estudiantes convertirse en co-enseñantes. Mediante tres casos, mostramos a estudiantes co-enseñantes e ilustramos cinco elementos de la enseñanza colaborativa y del proceso de aprendizaje en acción. Resumimos la base de investigación emergente referida a estudiantes co-enseñantes, proporcionamos un método para evaluarlos, y analizamos los desafíos percibidos para incorporar a los estudiantes como co-enseñantes
