MBO: Tevredenheid en aansluiting met vervolgonderwijs en arbeidsmarkt

Bijna 40% van de Nederlandse beroepsbevolking is opgeleid in het middelbaarberoepsonderwijs. Momenteel kent het MBO zo’n 485.000 deelnemers en jaarlijksontvangen ongeveer 125.000 jongeren een MBO-diploma. Het MBO heeft een uitermatebelangrijke functie en dient als voorbereiding op het vervolgonderwijs of deberoepspraktijk. Daardoor kan het MBO-diploma als een belangrijke mijlpaal inhet Nederlandse onderwijsstelsel gezien worden. In het voorliggende rapport MBO:Tevredenheid en aansluiting met vervolgonderwijs en arbeidsmarkt, komen gediplomeerdenvan het MBO derhalve uitgebreid aan bod.labour market entry and occupational careers;

Verkenning van de invloed van reisafstand op de keuze voor een middelbare beroepsopleiding

In dit rapport is onderzocht hoe afstandsgevoelig jongeren in het voortgezet onderwijs (vmbo/havo) zijn bij de overgang naar het middelbaar beroepsonderwijs (mbo) en welke invloed de ruimtelijke spreiding van mboopleidingen over opleidingslocaties heeft op de keuze voor één van de sectoren techniek, economie of zorg.Voor het onderzoek is gebruik gemaakt van gegevens over ruim15.600eerstejaarsleerlingen van het mbo in de regio Noord- en Midden-Limburg en de oostelijke helft van Noord-Brabant. Daarbij is gebruik gemaakt van de administratieve leerlingbestanden van de vijf ROC’s die hun hoofdvestiging hebben in dit gebied.1 Leerlingen kunnen kiezen uit 31 verschillende opleidingslocaties van deze ROC’s. Op elk van deze locaties wordt ofwel éénopleidingssector aangeboden (techniek, economie of zorg) ofwel een combinatie van deze sectoren. Op 19 van de 31 opleidingslocaties worden er technische opleidingen aangeboden, 17 locaties bieden economische opleidingen aan, en 15 locaties bieden zorgopleidingen aan.labour economics ;

Jaarlijks ontvangen ongeveer 100.000 jongeren een VMBO-diploma. Daarmee kanhet VMBO-diploma als een eerste belangrijke mijlpaal in het Nederlandse onderwijsstelselgezien worden. Het VMBO dient dan ook een stevige basis te biedenaan jongeren in hun verdere onderwijsloopbaan. Demographic change in the Netherlands

Although the Netherlands population is increasing, the population growth rate, even if fluctuating considerably, has been declining since the 1960s. The Netherland’s age structure since the 1960s has also experienced change such as declining youth, significant increase in 40 to 65 age group, and gradual increases in the 65 to 80+ cohorts. As a result of the changing demography the workforce will be older and this will impact upon the labour market, increasing the number of older workers and reducing the number of new entrants into the labour market. The Netherlands case study revealed the complexity of the demographic challenges occurring within the regions, with each region (Groningen/Drenthe, Limburg and Zeeland) experiencing different issues associated with their socio-economic situations, localised population shrinkage, population ageing, migration, and labour force shortages and skill gaps. The analysis indicate that the Netherlands’ response to demographic change is well advanced, but additional actions can be undertaken, particularly regarding the shrinking and ageing society, and especially within the context of regional and local labour markets

We utilize a unique dataset of more than 15,500 first-year students in upper secondary vocational education of a particular region in the Netherlands, and estimate the impact of commuting distance on the choice of a field of study. Using logistic regression analysis we estimate the probability that students choose for a study in the field of engineering, economics or health & welfare. In general we find that our expectations with respect to the effect of distance deterrence on the choice of field of study come true. If the commuting distance to the nearest or the nearest-but-one school location offering a particular field of study increases then the probability that students choose for that field diminishes. As for the nearest-but-two school location offering a particular field of study, we find that commuting distance sometimes has a positive correlation with the choice for a field of study. This may imply that more remote school locations can be more attractive for students for reasons of quality of education or good accessibility by public transport. Moreover, we find that an increasing distance to a school location of one field of study may increase the probability to choose for another field of study. This result demonstrates that it is not just the distance to one particular school location that matters. We therefore conclude that the whole educational infrastructure within a region matters for the choice of a particular field of study.Distance deterrence; study choice; vocational education; commuting
