    Get PDF
This thesis will address the correlation between theology and worship. Firstly, it will address the process of framing a worldview and how one’s worldview influences his thinking. Secondly, it will contrast flawed views of worship with the biblically defined worship that Christ calls His followers to practice. Thirdly, it will address the impact of theology in the life of a believer and its necessity and practice in the lifestyle of a worship leader

    Lotze's conception of the self

Thesis (Ph.D.)--Boston UniversityThe purpose of this dissertation is to expound Hermann Lotze's (1817-1881) conception of the self, and to evaluate it in the light of subsequent scientific developments which are relevant to it. This particular line of criticism is important because of the heavy reliance Lotze placed upon the scientific results of his own day. Lotze's work in its entirety is considered and his relation to his philosophic forebears and descendants is dealt with in general terms, but detailed treatment is attempted only in the restricted area indicated. Lotze was trained in both medicine and philosophy at Leipzig and, save for one year of medical practice, spent his entire career in university teaching. Although his interests moved more and more in the direction of philosophy his background enabled him in unique degree to combine scientific results with philosophic traditions. Thus he was able to make an important contribution to impirical method in philosophy. He held that philosophy should be a coherent interpretation of aesthetic, moral, religious, and sense experience

    Get PDF
Outdoor orientation programs at four-year colleges and universities have a rich history of easing student\u27s transition into college and helping students be successful. Collegebound is the outdoor orientation program for first year or transfer students at St. Ben\u27s and St. John\u27s. This program itself has a rich history with almost 30 years of trips that began in 1987. Recently the program grew nearly 50% in one year alone and received its highest participation rate in its history with 63 student participants in 2015. Collegebound is more than just a wilderness trip, but rather an experience that fosters community, learning, healthy risk taking, and leadership development. Outdoor orientation programs provide significant benefits to students and the future of this program will benefit both students and the institutions in years ahead. Learn not only about the history of this beneficial program but also about outdoor orientation programs across the country, program outcomes and how they continue to be successful

Representations of Texas Indians in Texas Myth and Memory: 1869-1936

My dissertation illuminates three important issues central to the field of Texas Indian history. First, it examines how Anglo Texans used the memories of a Texas frontier with “savage” Indians to reinforce a collective identity. Second, it highlights several instances that reflected attempts by Anglo Texans to solidify their place as rightful owners of the physical land as well as the history of the region. Third, this dissertation traces the change over time regarding these myths and memories in Texas. This is an important area of research for several reasons. Texas Indian historiography often ends in the 1870s, neglecting how Texas Indians abounded in popular literature, memorials, and historical representations in the years after their physical removal. I explain how Anglo Texans used the rhetoric of race and gender to “other” indigenous people, while also claiming them as central to Texas history and memory. Throughout this dissertation, I utilize primary sources such as state almanacs, monument dedication speeches, newspaper accounts, performative acts, interviews, and congressional hearings. By investigating these primary sources, my goal is to examine how Anglo Texans used these representations in the process of dispossession, collective remembrance, and justification of conquest, 1869-1936

Problem: Hospital A’s 9th floor telemetry units lacked a standardized method of handoff and required investigation. Current practices were evaluated, and an intervention was designed based on weak communication areas. Context: Using a 5 P’s assessment the key stakeholders included unit nurses, the nursing director, nurse educators, and unit nurse managers, and the patients were medsurg telemetry patients. The process included handoff in care and the pattern evaluated was methods of reporting with the purpose of providing high quality evidence-based patient centered care. A SWOT analysis revealed strong teamwork, interdisciplinary collaboration, and proficiency in health record technologies as strengths and driving forces that would aid change. Short staffing, burnout, poor leader buy-in and limited time acted as barriers to implementing change. Interventions: An education presentation was developed highlighting and providing examples of critical SBAR, TRACER, and centralized EHR reporting tools. The slideshow was designed to allow for nurse educators to further develop a communication education plan for unit nurses. Measures: Initial data collection included using a survey, observing, and individual interviews. A post survey accompanied the education intervention so impact can be evaluated. Results: 10 survey responses were collected. Main themes from data collection included a need for clarity, efficiency, and conciseness. Unit nurses utilized a variety of evidenced-based communication methods; however, there lacked consistency and there was little bedside reporting. Conclusions: Based on similar quality improvement studies further development of this handoff education intervention is likely to show better standardization in communication, more satisfactory handoff reporting between nurses, and fewer patient care errors related to miscommunication

    Utah\u27s Sage-Grouse Habitat Mitigation Program

    Get PDF
This fact sheet is intended for an audience of rural landowners in Utah who have sage-grouse habitat -- or possible sage-grouse habitat -- on their land. Landowners who are interested in earning credits for habitat improvement projects done on their land may be able to sell those credits to others who have created permanent disturbance to sage-grouse habitat elsewhere in Utah. Basic information about Utah\u27s state program for compensatory mitigation of sage-grouse habitat is provided, including core qualifications to participate in the program, and how to get more detailed information

The scientists supported by the NASA sponsored Controlled Ecological Life Support Systems (CELSS) program have played a major role in creating a Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) section devoted to the development of bioregenerative life support for use in space. The series of 22 papers were sponsored by Subcommission F.4. The papers deal with many of the diverse aspects of life support, and with outgrowth technologies that may have commercial applications in fields such as biotechnology and bioengineering. Papers from researchers in France, Canada, Japan and the USSR are also presented
