On 1-convexity and nucleolus of co-insurance games

    Get PDF
The situation, in which an enormous risk is insured by a number of insurance companies, is modeled through a cooperative TU game, the so-called co-insurance game, first introduced in Fragnelli and Marina (2004). In this paper we show that a co-insurance game possesses several interesting properties that allow to study the nonemptiness and the structure of the core and to construct an efficient algorithm for computing the nucleolus

Nonlinear surface magneto-plasmonics in Kretschmann multilayers

The nonlinear magneto-plasmonics aims to utilize plasmonic excitations to control the mechanisms and taylor the efficiencies of the non-linear light frequency conversion at the nanoscale. We investigate the mechanisms of magnetic second harmonic generation in hybrid gold-cobalt-silver multilayer structures, which support propagating surface plasmon polaritons at both fundamental and second harmonic frequencies. Using magneto-optical spectroscopy in Kretschmann geometry, we show that the huge magneto-optical modulation of the second harmonic intensity is dominated by the excitation of surface plasmon polaritons at the second harmonic frequency, as shown by tuning the optical wavelength over the spectral region of strong plasmonic dispersion. Our proof-of-principle experiment highlights bright prospects of nonlinear magneto-plasmonics and contributes to the general understanding of the nonlinear optics of magnetic surfaces and interfaces.Comment: Main Manuscript: 5 pages, 3 figures. Aeroelastic Analysis of Counter Rotation Fans

Aeroelastic problems in turbomachinery and propfans can be static or dynamic in nature. The analysis of static aeroelastic problems is involved primarily with determination: (a) of the shape of the blades and the steady aerodynamic loads on the blades (which are inter-dependent), (b) of the resultant steady stresses and (c) of the static instability (divergence) margin, if applicable. In this project, we were concerned exclusively with dynamic aeroelastic behavior. The analysis of dynamic aeroelastic problems is involved with the determination: (a) of the unsteady aerodynamic loads on blades and the dynamic motion of the blades (which are again inter-dependent), (b) of the resultant dynamic stresses and their effect on fatigue life and (c) of the dynamic instability (flutter), if applicable. There are two primary dynamic aeroelastic phenomena of interest to designers of turbomachinery and propfans: flutter and forced response. Flutter generally refers to the occurrence of rapidly growing self-excited oscillations leading to catastrophic failure of the blade. When certain nonlinear phenomena are present, flutter response may lead to a potentially dangerous limit cycle oscillation rather than an immediate catastrophic failure. Forced response generally refers to the steady-state oscillations that occur as a consequence of excitations external to the rotor in question. These excitations typically result from the presence of upstream obstructions, inflow distortions, downstream obstructions, or mechanical sources such as tip-casing contact or shaft and gear meshing. Significant forced response leads to blade fatigue, and at design conditions, generally contributes to a degradation of blade life. At other operating conditions, forced response may lead to catastrophic failure due to severe blade fatigue in a short duration of time

Comparison of Reversible SOC-Based Renewable Energy Storage Systems for the Netherlands and India

    Get PDF
The present study explores a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) for a microgrid, with Li-ion batteries for short-term storage coupled with a reversible solid oxide cell (rSOC) system for seasonal energy storage in hydrogen. A comparison of system size and capital cost shows that using a HESS leads to significant savings compared to a system with only batteries, with a capital cost reduction of up to 75 %. The study also reveals that Jodhpur (India) has greater needs for seasonal storage, and sees greater benefits from the use of a HESS than a temperate region like Groningen (Netherlands), due to the very high variability of wind energy, combined with the high share of wind energy in India. This shows that reversible solid oxide cell systems are a serious contender for energy storage in different climatic regions

Analisis Kinerja Simpang Tak Bersinyal Untuk Simpang Jalan W.r. Supratman Dan Jalan B.w. Lapian Di Kota Manado

Bose-Einstein condensed supermassive black holes: a case of renormalized quantum field theory in curved space-time

This paper investigates the question whether a realistic black hole can be in principal similar to a star, having a large but finite redshift at its horizon. If matter spreads throughout the interior of a supermassive black hole with mass M109MM\sim10^9M_\odot, it has an average density comparable to air and it may arise from a Bose-Einstein condensate of densely packed H-atoms. Within the Relativistic Theory of Gravitation with a positive cosmological constant, a bosonic quantum field describing H atoms is coupled to the curvature scalar with dimensionless coupling ξ\xi. In the Bose-Einstein condensed groundstate an exact, self-consistent solution for the metric occurs for a certain large value of ξ\xi, quadratic in the black hole mass. It is put forward that ξ\xi is set by proper choice of the background metric as a first step of a renormalization approach, while otherwise the non-linearities are small. The black hole has a hair, the binding energy. Fluctuations about the ground state are considered.Comment: 18 pages Latex Physica E styl
