Fission half-lives of super-heavy nuclei in a microscopic approach
A systematic study of 160 heavy and super-heavy nuclei is performed in the
Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approach with the finite range and density dependent
Gogny force with the D1S parameter set. We show calculations in several
approximations: with axially symmetric and reflexion symmetric wave functions,
with axially symmetric and non-reflexion symmetric wave functions and finally
some representative examples with triaxial wave functions are also discussed.
Relevant properties of the ground state and along the fission path are
thoroughly analyzed. Fission barriers, Q-factors and lifetimes with
respect to fission and -decay as well as other observables are
discussed. Larger configuration spaces and more general HFB wave functions as
compared to previous studies provide a very good agreement with the

Mirror Symmetry and Landau Ginzburg Calabi-Yau Superpotentials in F-theory Compactifications
We study Landau Ginzburg (LG) theories mirror to 2D N=2 gauged linear sigma
models on toric Calabi-Yau manifolds. We derive and solve new constraint
equations for Landau Ginzburg elliptic Calabi-Yau superpotentials, depending on
the physical data of dual linear sigma models. In Calabi-Yau threefolds case,
we consider two examples. First, we give the mirror symmetry of the canonical
line bundle over the Hirzebruch surfaces . Second, we find a special
geometry with the affine so(8) Lie algebra toric data extending the geometry of
elliptically fibered K3. This geometry leads to a pure N=1 six dimensional
SO(8) gauge model from the F-theory compactification. For Calabi-Yau fourfolds,

Predictions of and in an Asymptotically Non-Free Theory
We discuss an extention of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM)
with the 4th and anti-4th generations which have
invariant masses. Due to the the extra generations, all three running gauge
couplings become asymptotically non--free while preserving gauge coupling
unification at the GUT scale. We show that due to the asymptotically non--free
character of the gauge couplings: (1) the top and bottom Yukawa couplings are
strongly focused onto infrared fixed points as they are evolved down in scale
making their values at \mu=\mz insensitive to their initial values at
\mu=\mgut; (2) the model predicts \R(\mz) \equiv Y_b/Y_\tau |_{\mu
=\mz}\approx 1.8, which is consistent with the experimental value provided we
take the ratio of Yukawa couplings at the GUT scale to be \R(\mgut) =
Y_b/Y_\tau |_{\mu = \mgut} = 1/3; (3) the mass prediction comes out to be

AGS tune jump system to cross horizontal depolarization resonances overview
Two partial snakes overcome the vertical depolarizing resonances in the AGS. But a new type of depolarizing intrinsic resonance from horizontal motion appeared. We reduce these using horizontal tune jumps timed to these resonances. We gain a factor of six in crossing rate with a tune jump of 0.05 in 100 {micro}s. Two quadrapoles, we described in 2009, pulse 42 times, the current matching beam energy. The power supplies for these quads are described in detail elsewhere in this conference. The controls for the Jump Quad system is based on a BNL designed Quad Function Generator. Two modules are used; one for timing, and one to supply reference voltages. Synchronization is provided by a proprietary serial bus, the Event Link. The AgsTuneJump application predicts the times of the resonances during the AGS cycle and calculates the power supply trigger times from externally collected tune and energy versus time data and the Low and High PS voltage functions from a voltage to current model of the power supply. The system was commissioned during runs 09 & 10 and is operational. Many beam effects are described elsewhere. The TuneJump system has worked well and has caused little trouble save for the perturbations in the lattice having such a large effect due to our need to run with the vertical tune within a few thousandths of the integer tune. As these problems were mostly sorted out by correcting the 6th harmonic orbit distortions which caused a large 18 theta beta wave. Also running with minimal chromaticity reduces emittance growth. There are still small beta waves which are being addressed. The timing of the pulses is still being investigated, but as each crossing causes minimal polarization loss, this is a lengthy process
Correlation Functions of Conserved Currents in N = 2 Superconformal Theory
Using a manifestly supersymmetric formalism, we determine the general
structure of two- and three- point functions of the supercurrent and the
flavour current of N = 2 superconformal field theories. We also express them in
terms of N = 1 superfields and compare to the generic N = 1 correlation
functions. A general discussion of the N = 2 supercurrent superfield and the
multiplet of anomalies and their definition as derivatives with respect to the

Trace-gas metabolic versatility of the facultative methanotroph Methylocella silvestris
The climate-active gas methane is generated both by biological processes and by thermogenic decomposition of fossil organic material, which forms methane and short-chain alkanes, principally ethane, propane and butane1, 2. In addition to natural sources, environments are exposed to anthropogenic inputs of all these gases from oil and gas extraction and distribution. The gases provide carbon and/or energy for a diverse range of microorganisms that can metabolize them in both anoxic3 and oxic zones. Aerobic methanotrophs, which can assimilate methane, have been considered to be entirely distinct from utilizers of short-chain alkanes, and studies of environments exposed to mixtures of methane and multi-carbon alkanes have assumed that disparate groups of microorganisms are responsible for the metabolism of these gases. Here we describe the mechanism by which a single bacterial strain, Methylocella silvestris, can use methane or propane as a carbon and energy source, documenting a methanotroph that can utilize a short-chain alkane as an alternative to methane. Furthermore, during growth on a mixture of these gases, efficient consumption of both gases occurred at the same time. Two soluble di-iron centre monooxygenase (SDIMO) gene clusters were identified and were found to be differentially expressed during bacterial growth on these gases, although both were required for efficient propane utilization. This report of a methanotroph expressing an additional SDIMO that seems to be uniquely involved in short-chain alkane metabolism suggests that such metabolic flexibility may be important in many environments where methane and short-chain alkanes co-occur
Environmental changes and violent conflict
This letter reviews the scientific literature on whether and how environmental changes affect the risk of violent conflict. The available evidence from qualitative case studies indicates that environmental stress can contribute to violent conflict in some specific cases. Results from quantitative large-N studies, however, strongly suggest that we should be careful in drawing general conclusions. Those large-N studies that we regard as the most sophisticated ones obtain results that are not robust to alternative model specifications and, thus, have been debated. This suggests that environmental changes may, under specific circumstances, increase the risk of violent conflict, but not necessarily in a systematic way and unconditionally. Hence there is, to date, no scientific consensus on the impact of environmental changes on violent conflict. This letter also highlights the most important challenges for further research on the subject. One of the key issues is that the effects of environmental changes on violent conflict are likely to be contingent on a set of economic and political conditions that determine adaptation capacity. In the authors' view, the most important indirect effects are likely to lead from environmental changes via economic performance and migration to violent conflict. © 2012 IOP Publishing Ltd
