    Identifying High-Traffic Patterns in the Workplace With Radio Tomographic Imaging in 3D Wireless Sensor Networks

    The rapid progress of wireless communication and embedded mircro-sensing electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technologies has resulted in a growing confidence in the use of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) comprised of low-cost, low-power devices performing various monitoring tasks. Radio Tomographic Imaging (RTI) is a technology for localizing, tracking, and imaging device-free objects in a WSN using the change in received signal strength (RSS) of the radio links the object is obstructing. This thesis employs an experimental indoor three-dimensional (3-D) RTI network constructed of 80 wireless radios in a 100 square foot area. Experimental results are presented from a series of stationary target localization and target tracking experiments using one and two targets. Preliminary results demonstrate a 3-D RTI network can be effectively used to generate 3-D RSS-based images to extract target features such as size and height, and identify high-traffic patterns in the workplace by tracking asset movement

    Multi-view self-supervised learning for multivariate variable-channel time series

    Labeling of multivariate biomedical time series data is a laborious and expensive process. Self-supervised contrastive learning alleviates the need for large, labeled datasets through pretraining on unlabeled data. However, for multivariate time series data, the set of input channels often varies between applications, and most existing work does not allow for transfer between datasets with different sets of input channels. We propose learning one encoder to operate on all input channels individually. We then use a message passing neural network to extract a single representation across channels. We demonstrate the potential of this method by pretraining our model on a dataset with six EEG channels and then fine-tuning it on a dataset with two different EEG channels. We compare models with and without the message passing neural network across different contrastive loss functions. We show that our method, combined with the TS2Vec loss, outperforms all other methods in most settings.Comment: To appear in proceedings of 2023 IEEE International workshop on Machine Learning for Signal Processin

    Double feature selection and cluster analyses in mining of microarray data from cotton

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Cotton fiber is a single-celled seed trichome of major biological and economic importance. In recent years, genomic approaches such as microarray-based expression profiling were used to study fiber growth and development to understand the developmental mechanisms of fiber at the molecular level. The vast volume of microarray expression data generated requires a sophisticated means of data mining in order to extract novel information that addresses fundamental questions of biological interest. One of the ways to approach microarray data mining is to increase the number of dimensions/levels to the analysis, such as comparing independent studies from different genotypes. However, adding dimensions also creates a challenge in finding novel ways for analyzing multi-dimensional microarray data.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Mining of independent microarray studies from Pima and Upland (TM1) cotton using double feature selection and cluster analyses identified species-specific and stage-specific gene transcripts that argue in favor of discrete genetic mechanisms that govern developmental programming of cotton fiber morphogenesis in these two cultivated species. Double feature selection analysis identified the highest number of differentially expressed genes that distinguish the fiber transcriptomes of developing Pima and TM1 fibers. These results were based on the finding that differences in fibers harvested between 17 and 24 day post-anthesis (dpa) represent the greatest expressional distance between the two species. This powerful selection method identified a subset of genes expressed during primary (PCW) and secondary (SCW) cell wall biogenesis in Pima fibers that exhibits an expression pattern that is generally reversed in TM1 at the same developmental stage. Cluster and functional analyses revealed that this subset of genes are primarily regulated during the transition stage that overlaps the termination of PCW and onset of SCW biogenesis, suggesting that these particular genes play a major role in the genetic mechanism that underlies the phenotypic differences in fiber traits between Pima and TM1.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The novel application of double feature selection analysis led to the discovery of species- and stage-specific genetic expression patterns, which are biologically relevant to the genetic programs that underlie the differences in the fiber phenotypes in Pima and TM1. These results promise to have profound impacts on the ongoing efforts to improve cotton fiber traits.</p

    Government Regulation 42 of 2004 on Life Coaching Corps and the Code of Conduct for civil servants, explicitly and clearly stated ethical obligation for civil servants in carrying out official duties. But in reality there is still the attitude and behavior of civil servants that do not fit. This research is to answer the question "to what extent the application of ethics of civil servants in the discharge of public service personnel in the sub-district office Wanea Manado.Research using qualitative methods. In this case the application of ethics of civil servants visits of eight indicators: (1) carry out the duties and powers according to the provisions; (2) establishing a work ethic to improve performance; (3) comply with and adhere to operational standards and obedient labor; (4) ensuring cooperatively work in realizing the efficiency and effectiveness; (5) sought to develop competencies and creative and innovative thinking in the implementation of tasks; (6) accountable in carrying out the task; (7) responsive, open, honest, and accurate, and timely in completing tasks; (8) use of resources in an efficient and effective organization; Informants in this study were officials and staff at Head Office Wanea, as many as 10 people. Data collection by interview; while data analysis using interactive model analysis techniques of Miles and Hubernann.The results showed that the application of ethics of civil servants of eight indicators that can be applied to everything is pretty well by the public service personnel in the sub-district office Wanea, but not optimal.Based on the results of these studies conclude that the application of ethics of civil servants specified in the PP. No. 42 of 2004 has not been optimally performed by the apparatus of public services in the sub-district office Wanea Manado, but generally has been good enough. Based on the conclusions of the research results can be put forward suggestions to improve the application of ethics among civil servants in the public service apparatus, as follows: (1) need more intensive socialization of the PP. 42 of 2004 to the whole apparatus of public services (2) enforcement of civil etika needs to be improved by implementing a consistent and objective sanctions against any ethics violations

The changes of the cataloging profession are considerable and related to the increasing importance of the Internet and the decreasing reliance on the traditional card catalog. The majority of current professional catalogers' duties and responsibilities rely on or are associated with computers and the Internet. This study is to determine more specifically how the cataloging profession has evolved in the past thirty years. Job advertisements for entry-level professional cataloging positions will be evaluated from the past thirty years of American Libraries and College and Research Libraries News issues. The skills, experience, and familiarity of certain knowledge that are listed, will be documented and recorded from the evaluation of the job advertisements

    Exploring length of stay: International tourism in south-western Norway

    This article explored length of stay (LOS) in the context of tour planning, to assess as to whether LOS can be increased. LOS is an important parameter for tourism destination management, at the same time as evidence have suggested that LOS is declining on a global scale. The study was based on responses from 1592 foreign leisure travellers in south-western Norway, a region dominated by round-trips. The study uniquely explored aspects that influenced visitor planning of length of stay, finding that perceptions of time ‘needed’ for desired activities is the most important aspect of holiday duration planning, followed by limitations in the number of vacation days, holiday budgets and accommodation-related considerations. Visitors with a focus on the region, those with their own vehicles and those emphasising outdoor recreation and/or landscape sightseeing were likely to have longer stays. Findings suggested that destinations have potential to increase LOS.     Overexpression of EGFR and c-erbB2 causes enhanced cell migration in human breast cancer cells and NIH3T3 fibroblasts

    AbstractOverexpression of EGFR and c-erbB2 frequently occurs in human breast cancers, correlating with poor prognosis. Here we show that overexpression of EGFR and c-erbB2 in cell lines increases cell migration, an important step in metastasis formation. The effect of EGFR on migration is dependent on the addition of EGF to the cells. In contrast, c-erbB2 seems to act independently of its ligand in these assays. Overexpression of this receptor is sufficient to induce cell migration. In addition, we investigated the involvement of a number of signal transduction pathways known to be activated by the EGFR. We found that inactivation of MAPKK results in a decreased migration, while inactivation of PI3K increases migration
