    Adaptive backstepping control for ship nonlinear active fin system based on disturbance observer and neural network

    Adaptive backstepping control based on disturbance observer and neural network for ship nonlinear active fin system is proposed. One disturbance observer is given to observe the disturbances of the system, by this way, the response time is shorten and the negative impact of disturbance and uncertain elements of the system is reduced. In addition, radial basic function neural network (RBFNN) is proposed to approach the unknown elements in the ship nonlinear active fin system, therefor the system can obtain good roll reduction effectiveness and overcome the uncertainties of the model, the designed controller can maintain the ship roll angle at desired value. Finally, the simulation results are given for a supply vessel to verify the successfulness of the proposed controller

    Stress and sleep quality in medical students: a cross-sectional study from Vietnam

    BackgroundThe COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in significant global social and economic disruptions, as well as changes in personal attitude and behavior. The purpose of this research is to assess the sleep quality and stress levels of medical students.MethodData was collected from medical students over the course of a month in 2021. A total of 4,677 students at the University of Medicine Pham Ngoc Thach were invited to complete an anonymous web-based survey, which included the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Questionnaire Index (PSQI) for measuring sleep quality and the COVID-19 Student Stress Questionnaire (CSSQ) for evaluating stress.ResultsA total of 1,502 students participated in our survey. More than half of the participants exhibited poor quality of sleep as indicated by their PSQI score. Many students reported going to bed after midnight and spending time on their smartphones. Among the students surveyed, 21.84% experienced low levels of stress (CSSQ ≤6), 63.38% had mild stress (7 ≤ CSSQ score ≤ 14), 14.78% reported high levels of stress (CSSQ >14).ConclusionThis study showed a high prevalence of poor sleep quality in the surveyed students, which could be attributed to changes in their behavior following the COVID-19 outbreak. Mild stress was also frequently observed, and it may be related to sleep disorders in this population. These important findings provide valuable insights for making recommendations, including lifestyle modifications to improve sleep quality

    Quantitative assessment of trout fish spoilage with a single nanowire gas sensor in a thermal gradient

    5openInternationalInternational coauthor/editorThe response of a single tin oxide nanowire was collected at different temperatures to create a virtual array of sensors working as a nano-electronic nose. The single nanowire, acting as a chemiresistor, was first tested with pure ammonia and then used to determine the freshness status of trout fish (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in a rapid and non-invasive way. The gas sensor reacts to total volatile basic nitrogen, detecting the freshness status of the fish samples in less than 30 s. The sensor response at different temperatures correlates well with the total viable count (TVC), demonstrating that it is a good (albeit indirect) way of measuring the bacterial population in the sample. The nano-electronic nose is not only able to classify the samples according to their degree of freshness but also to quantitatively estimate the concentration of microorganisms present.     Properties of Concrete Containing Rubber Aggregate Derived From Discarded Tires

    This study carried out the experiment to evaluate the effects of different contents and sizes of rubber particles derived from discarded tires used for replacing fine and coarse natural aggregates, on the workability of fresh rubberized concrete and the compressive and flexural strengths of hardened rubberized concrete. The study results showed that the workability of fresh rubberized concrete was improved when replacing natural fine aggregate (sand) with fine rubber particles (2.5-5 mm) at the replacing proportions of 30-50% by volume, and when replacing natural coarse aggregate (crushed stone) with coarse rubber particles (5-20 mm) at the replacing proportions of 10-30% by volume. With respect to the mechanical properties of hardened rubberized concrete, a larger reduction in the compressive and flexural strengths was generally found when the replacing proportions increased and when coarse aggregate rather than fine aggregate was replaced by rubber particles at all replacing proportions (10-50%). However, the study results also indicated that using fine rubber particles for replacing fine natural aggregate at the low replacing proportion (up to 10%) might not cause the significant effect on the compressive and flexural strength of rubberized concrete

    Investigation of bond performance of reinforced fly ash-based Geopolymer concrete using experiments and numerical analysis

    This study evaluates the bond performance of reinforced fly ash-based geopolymer concrete by using experiments and numerical analysis. Three types of mixture proportions along with two types of reinforcement diameter, (d12, ribbed bar) and (d14, smooth bar) mm, were selected for experimental work. The bond behaviour of reinforced geopolymer concrete is determined using the pullout test, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The test data indicated that the bond strength of reinforced fly ash-based geopolymer concrete increases with the increase in compressive strength. The concrete cover to diameter ratio (c/db) increases from 4.86 to 5.75 and the bond strength of all three groups of samples also increases. Besides, the bond stress-slip curves obtained by the ABAQUS software closely match the results from experimental works. Furthermore, the parametric analyses show that when the compressive strength of geopolymer concreteincreases, the bond strength of reinforced fly ash-based geopolymer concrete increases. These results are consistent with the test data

    Using penalty method in identification of elastic fixed stiffness of frame structure

    This paper studies a method to identify the elastic fixed stiffness of the frame structure. The model of the problem is three dimensional structure, linear elastic deformation, pile - soil link is replaced by elastic fixed with stiffness. The problem will be solve by the penalty function method - the minimum of the objective function (which is the total squared error between the measured value and the calculated values particular) - combined with the finite element method. The numerical calculations show that the model, algorithm and calculation program are reliable. The program can be used to identify the elastic fixed stiffness of the frame structure in three dimension, serving to determine the actual working state of the structure, to propose solutions for reinforcement, repairing, improving bearing capacity, prolonging the life of the structure

    Delving into Ipsilateral Mammogram Assessment under Multi-View Network

    In many recent years, multi-view mammogram analysis has been focused widely on AI-based cancer assessment. In this work, we aim to explore diverse fusion strategies (average and concatenate) and examine the model's learning behavior with varying individuals and fusion pathways, involving Coarse Layer and Fine Layer. The Ipsilateral Multi-View Network, comprising five fusion types (Pre, Early, Middle, Last, and Post Fusion) in ResNet-18, is employed. Notably, the Middle Fusion emerges as the most balanced and effective approach, enhancing deep-learning models' generalization performance by +2.06% (concatenate) and +5.29% (average) in VinDr-Mammo dataset and +2.03% (concatenate) and +3% (average) in CMMD dataset on macro F1-Score.     Prototype edge-grown nanowire sensor array for the real-time monitoring and classification of multiple gases

    The monitoring and classification of different gases using a single resistive semiconductor sensor are challenging because of the similar response characteristics. An array of separated sensors can be used as an electronic nose, but such arrays have a bulky structure and complex fabrication processes. Herein, we easily fabricated a gas-sensor array based on edge-grown SnO2 nanowires for the real-time monitoring and classification of multiple gases. The array comprised four sensors and was designed on a glass substrate. SnO2 nanowires were grown on-chip from the edge of electrodes, made contact together, and acted as sensing elements. This method was advantageous over the post-synthesis technique because the SnO2 nanowires were directly grown from the edge of the electrodes rather than on the surface. Accordingly, damage to the electrode was avoided by alloying Sn with Pt at a high growth temperature. The sensing characteristics of the sensor array were further examined for different gases, including methanol, isopropanol, ethanol, ammonia, hydrogen sulphide and hydrogen.     All flames are extinguished as early as possible, or fire services have to deal with major conflagrations. This leads to the fact that the quality of fire extinguishers has become a very sensitive and important issue in firefighting. Inspired by the development of automatic fire fighting systems, this paper proposes key specifications based on the standard of fire extinguishers that is ISO 7165:2009 and ISO 11601:2008, and feasible solutions to design a mobile manipulator for automatically evaluating the quality or, more specifically, power of fire extinguishers.
