PCR amplification and sequence analysis of mole rat (Spalax leucodon) Sox2 gene
Sox2 gene is involved in control of eye development and it has been shown that in mammals this gene is a transcriptional activator of Ī³F-crystallin in lens. The mole rat (Spalax leucodon), which is an extreme example of natural visual degeneration, has strongly rudimented eyes with undeveloped, disorganized and vacuolated lens nuclei. Here we present a partial characterization of the mole rat Sox2 gene which is cloned using PCR - based approach (and primers specific for human SOX2 gene). Our results have shown no significant changes in the sequence within the open reading frame of the mole rat Sox2 gene and have revealed that mole rat Sox2 gene is strongly conserved compared with orthologue gene in humans, sheep and mouse. Our results indicate that the mole rat Sox2 gene remains under selective pressure since it probably has, apart from the control of eye development, the other important roles in the embryonic development

A Critique of Ideological Identity Construction in Socialist Yugoslavia: Music Video Clips "Venceremos (133)" and "Discipline" by Borghesia
During the 1980s, some āroomā appeared in the āgapā of Yugoslav socialist ideology for a new ideological construction, which was only apparently a āfree productā of alternative modes of thinking and expression in late socialism. Genuinely alternative artistic and cultural actions in this late socialist period focused on the analysis and critique of socialist ideological construct, as well as its cultural production of identity. One of such spokesmen on the alternative scene of late socialist Yugoslavia, the Slovenian music band Borghesia, denounced these productions of national identity within socialist ideology in its ātextsā for the music videos Venceremos (133) and Discipline. Thus, Borghesia anticipated the new homogenization and interpellation of the individual in the collective identity of postsocialist national ideology
On the reduction of Linear Parameter-Varying State-Space models
This paper presents an overview and comparative study of the state of the art in State-Order Reduction (SOR) and Scheduling Dimension Reduction (SDR) for Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) State-Space (SS) models, comparing and benchmarking their capabilities, limitations and performance. The use case chosen for these studies is an interconnected network of nonlinear coupled mass spring damper systems with three different configurations, where some spring coefficients are described by arbitrary user-defined static nonlinear functions. For SOR, the following methods are compared: Linear Time-Invariant (LTI), LPV and LFR-based balanced reductions, moment matching and parameter-varying oblique projection. For SDR, the following methods are compared: Principal Component Analysis (PCA), trajectory PCA, Kernel PCA and LTI balanced truncation, autoencoders and deep neural network. The comparison reveals the most suitable reduction methods for the different benchmark configurations, from which we provide use case SOR and SDR guidelines that can be used to choose the best reduction method for a given LPV-SS model

Evidence of genetic isolation between two Mediterranean morphotypes of Parazoanthus axinellae
Coralligenous assemblages are among the most species-rich and vulnerable habitats of the
Mediterranean Sea. Nevertheless, data on connectivity patterns on species inhabiting these habitats,
crucial to define management and protection priorities, are largely lacking. Moreover, unreliable
species-level taxonomy can confound ecological studies and mislead management strategies. In the
northwestern Mediterranean two Parazoanthus axinellae morphotypes differing in size, color and
preferred substrate are found in sympatry. In this study, we used COI and ITS sequence polymorphism
to assess (1) the genetic divergence between the two morphotypes, (2) their connectivity patterns and
(3) their phylogenetic position within the Parazoanthidae. Specimens of P. axinellae were sampled in
11 locations along the northwestern Mediterranean; in 6 locations, samples of the two morphotypes
were collected in sympatry. Small genetic diversity and structure were found within morphotypes,
while marked and consistent differentiation was detected between them. Moreover, the less
widespread morphotype appeared to be closer to Pacific species as P. juanfernandezii and P. elongatus.
Our findings confirmed the limited knowledge on Parazoanthus species complex, and how this gap can
have important implication for the conservation strategies of this widespread and valuable genus in
the Mediterranean Sea

Alteracija lokomotorne aktivnosti (LA) miŔeva otrovanih subletalnim dozama olovnog acetata
It was shown that locomotometry allows for continuous recording of some injurious effects of lead poisoning upon mice. For detection of poisoning with lead acetate in mice, locomotometry was more sensitive than the recording of mortality rates, demonstration of stippled cell, in the peripheral blood or detection of manifest symptoms of illness by plain inspection. Single or multiple intraperitoneal injections of saline or distilled water, after the third post-injection day, do not induce detectable alterations of the locomotive activity (LA) of mice. Dose-dependent alterations of LA have been observed after intraperitoneal administration of lead acetate. Acute, single-dose poisoning induces dose-dependent depressions of the LA, while chronic poisoning with multiple injections tends to induce elevated LA, mostly combined with and exceptionally without depression of the LA. Time trends show intermittent alterations of the LA induced by lead poisoning. In some animals significant alterations of LA lasted as long as observed (from 4 to 6 months), while in others the normal LA was restored within 20 or 60 days after the last injection of lead acetate. Animals poisoned with lethal doses of lead acetate developed stippled cells during the 2nd or 3rd week, while significant alterations of the LA started to be manifest from the first day after the first injection. Mice poisoned with subletal doses {0.4, 0.8 and 1.0 mg) showed no stippled cells, but displayed alterations of LA. Possible applications of locomotometry for continuous measurements of degrees of illness or of clinical improvements, in cases of poisoning or of various treatments, were discussed briefly.
