Personality factors and adult attachment affecting job mobility

    Get PDF
Past research has revealed that individuals' job mobility is affected by factors such as job satisfaction, specific career enhancing attributes and job availability. This study examined personality factors predicting voluntary internal and external job mobility. Three types of voluntary job mobility measures were studied: dissatisfaction changes, job improvement changes and job rotations within companies. These mobility measures were related to the Big Five personality factors, sensation seeking and adult attachment. Results showed that demographic variables and sensation seeking contributed to the variance in external job changes. Internal job rotations were not related to any of the demographic and personality variables

Components of genetic counsellor education: A systematic review of the peer-reviewed literature.

The need for appropriately trained genetic counsellors to support genetic healthcare is now acknowledged. However, while programmes for education of genetic counsellors exist in a number of countries, these do not conform to any specific international standards. As genetic techniques, educational standards and professional standards have been evolved, and with increasing mobility of genetic counsellors, it is of great importance to have some comparison of education and training between different countries. This systematic review was conducted to determine the components of educational programmes for genetic counsellors worldwide that have been published in peer-reviewed literature. Databases were searched for studies published in English from 2000 to 2014 related to the topic. We identified 406 potential papers, of these, 11 studies met the inclusion criteria. The findings indicate that, in most cases, the theoretical components of genetic counsellor programmes conform to the recommendations and requirements of relevant professional bodies. However, clinical preparation of genetic counsellors in real-life professional practice settings seems to be less well addressed as this is essential to ensure genetic counsellors are able to provide safe patient care after graduation. Further work to gain agreement internationally on genetic counsellor education is needed

SYRTE and PARSEC Contribution for the GBOT/GAIA Moving Target Astrometry

4 p.International audienceGAIA will measure to unprecedent precision positions, movements, and parallaxes, by the superposition of two fields apart by 174deg, taken from the L2 Earth-Sun, about 1.5 million km from the ground. To achieve the aimed precision for stars, and particularly for solar system bodies, the instantaneous position and speed of the satellite must be known respectively to 150m and 2.5 mm/s. This translates to the GBOT (Ground Base Optical Tracking) requirement to deliver quasi-daily positions of the satellite at the accuracy of 10mas relatively to the GAIA's reference frame itself (Altmann et al., 2010, this proceeding). The challenge increases because the satellite will probably be dimmer than R 17th magnitude and will be moving on average at 30mas/s, and switching hemispheres between summer and winter. We will present the strategies worked out for the satellite centroid's determination, including tracking mode, binning, super-gaussian fit, blind co-addition of images; as well as the astrometric reduction open code designed to cope with this variety of conditions. We will show applications of these resources to observations of the satellites WMAP and PLANCK, and to fast asteroids

Antimicrobial garlic-derived diallyl polysulfanes: Interactions with biological thiols in Bacillus subtilis

    Get PDF
Background: Diallylpolysulfanes are the key constituents of garlic oils, known to exhibit broad spectrum anticancer and antimicrobial activity. Studies in vitro, and in mammalian cells, have shown they react, via thiol-polysulfane exchange, with their major low molecular weight thiol, glutathione. However, there are no detailed reports of diallylpolysulfane effects on other common thiol metabolites (cysteine and coenzyme A) or major thiol cofactors (e.g. bacillithiol) that many Gram positive bacteria produce instead of glutathione. Methods: Diallylpolysulfanes were individually purified then screened for antimicrobial activity against Bacillus subtilis. Their impact on thiol metabolites (bacillithiol, cysteine, coenzyme A, protein thiols allyl thiols//persulfides) in B. subtilis cultures were analysed, by HPLC. Results: Diallylpolysulfane bioactivity increased with increasing chain length up to diallyltetrasulfane, but then plateaued. Within two minutes of treating B. subtilis with diallyltrisulfane or diallyltetrasulfane intracellular bacillithiol levels decreased by ~90%. Cysteine and CoA were also affected but to a lesser degree. This was accompanied by the accumulation of allyl thiol and allyl persulfide. A significant level of protein-S-allylation was also detected. Conclusions: In addition to the major low molecular weight thiol, diallylpolysulfanes can also have an impact on other thiol metabolites and protein thiols. General significance This study shows the rapid parallel impact of polysulfanes on different biological thiols inside Bacillus subtilis alongside the concomitant generation of allyl thiols and persulfides

ABSTRACTPapaya is one of the climacteric fruit that has a short shelf life. It has high potential as a source of vitamins and minerals. This research was aimed at studying the maturity criteria of postharvest ripeness of Callina papaya fruit of several picking ages and to determine the best picking ages for postharvest handling in order to extend the shelf life. Experiment was conducted in the Research Center for Tropical Horticulture, Bogor Agricultural University (PKHT, IPB) Papaya Farm Tajur, Bogor and postharvest ripening test was conducted at Postharvest Laboratory, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Bogor Agricultural University in February to July 2014. Experiment consisted of 4 treatments: 115, 120, 125 and 130 days after anthesis (DAA) with 3 replications. The longest shelf life for papaya Callina was obtained by fruit picked at 115 DAA (heat unit 2010.06 0C day) with the shelf life of 8 days. Picking ages 120 DAA (heat unit 2102.13 0C day) was the best picking ages for treatment to extend the shelf life because of the good chemical quality contained and its shelf life of 7 days. The older papaya fruits ripened faster than the younger papaya fruit. Younger papaya has a lower respiration rate than the older papaya. Picking ages did not affect the physical quality but affect the chemical quality of papaya fruit at the same postharvest maturity level.

Ground Based Optical Tracking of Gaia

    Get PDF
International audienceGaia's unprecedented ambitions regarding astrometric accuracy and precision require a level of knowledge of the position and velocity vector of the satellite itself not required in other satellite mission. Thus the usual methods of determining these quantities do not suffice and new approaches must be invoked. One of these is the Ground Based Optical Tracking (GBOT) campaign

The U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO), in collaboration with Paris Observatory (OP), is conducting the Fundamental Reference AGN Monitoring Experiment, or FRAMEx. FRAMEx will use USNO's and OP's in-house observing assets in the radio, infrared (IR) and visible, as well as other ground- and space-based telescopes (e.g., in the X-ray) that we can access for these purposes, to observe and monitor current and candidate Reference Frame Objects (RFOs) -- consisting of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) -- as well as representative AGN, in order to better understand astrometric and photometric variability at multiple timescales. FRAMEx will improve the selection of RFOs as well as provide significant new data to the AGN research community. This paper describes the FRAMEx objectives, specific areas of investigation, and the initial data collection campaigns.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures.
