Proyecto de generación de ingresos para la población en condición de desplazamiento forzado del barrio Cristal Alto de Bucaramanga, Santander

Esta investigación trata del diseño de un proyecto para la generación de ingresos de la población en condición de desplazamiento forzado del barrio Cristal Alto, comuna 10 de la ciudad de Bucaramanga, Santander, quienes presentan altos niveles de pobreza, desigualdad y no cuentan con posibilidades de inclusión laboral. Se llevó a cabo con la participación de un grupo de esta población, mediante grupos focales y la aplicación de una entrevista, a partir de lo cual se identificaron los aspectos claves para ser intervenidos de manera prioritaria en la búsqueda de la estabilización socioeconómica de estas personas, formulando para ello, 4 estrategias y una metodología de monitoreo y seguimiento.This research is about designing a project to increase income for the population in a condition of forced displacement in the Cristal Alto neighborhood, commune 10 of the city of Bucaramanga, Santander, who have high levels of poverty, inequality and do not have the possibility of labor inclusion. Hopscotch: an encounter with jazz

La presente investigación tuvo como propósito demostrar cómo el jazz permite un encuentro con el mundo de Rayuela, en el aula, y a partir de ahí disfrutar su lectura. Para dar cumplimiento a este objetivo se tomaron como elementos de reflexión el concepto didáctica y de la historia de la didáctica de la literatura en Colombia durante los últimos diez años, de la misma manera se tuvo en cuenta el contexto socio-cultural de Julio Cortázar, la lectura y análisis de la novela Rayuela y el estudio y conceptualización del jazz. El trabajo se realizó bajo los parámetros de la investigación cualitativa que permitió la lectura, análisis, reflexión y observación de actitudes respecto al ejercicio en el aula. Se realizaron tres talleres con una motivación previa a las actividades en el aula.This research had the purpose to show how jazz allows an encounter with the world of Rayuela in the classroom and enjoy its reading. To fulfill this objective, we took the concept of teaching and history of the literature teaching in Colombia over the last ten years, as consideration elements. Also, we took into account the socio-cultural context of Julio Cortázar, the reading and the analysis of his novel Rayuela, and the study and conceptualization of jazz. The work was done under the parameters of qualitative research that allowed reading, discussion, reflection and observation of attitudes towards exercise in the classroom. Site-specific bacterial chromosome engineering mediated by IntA integrase from Rhizobium etli

Background: The bacterial chromosome may be used to stably maintain foreign DNA in the mega-base range. Integration into the chromosome circumvents issues such as plasmid replication, stability, incompatibility, and copy number variance. The site-specific integrase IntA from Rhizobium etli CFN42 catalyzes a direct recombination between two specific DNA sites: attA and attD (23 bp). This recombination is stable. The aim of this work was to develop a R. etli derivative that may be used as recipient for the integration of foreign DNA in the chromosome, adapting the IntA catalyzed site-specific recombination system. Results: To fulfill our aim, we designed a Rhizobium etli CFN42 derivative, containing a “landing pad” (LP) integrated into the chromosome. The LP sector consists of a green fluorescent protein gene under the control of the lacZ promoter and a spectinomycin resistance gene. Between the lacZ promoter and the GFP gene we inserted an IntA attachment site, which does not affect transcription from the lac promoter. Also, a mobilizable donor vector was generated, containing an attA site and a kanamycin resistance gene; to facilitate insertion of foreign DNA, this vector also contains a multicloning site. There are no promoters flanking the multicloning site. A biparental mating protocol was used to transfer the donor vector into the landing pad strain; insertion of the donor vector into the landing pad sector via IntA-mediated attA X attA recombination thereby interrupted the expression of the green fluorescent protein, generating site-specific cointegrants. Cointegrants were easily recognized by screening for antibiotic sensitivity and lack of GFP expression, and were obtained with an efficiency of 6.18 %. Conclusions: Integration of foreign DNA in Rhizobium, lacking any similarity with the genome, can be easily achieved by IntA-mediated recombination. Dificultades de los estudiantes de grado Octavo en los procesos de tratamiento y conversión de los números racionales.

El objetivo de la investigación es identificar dificultades de los estudiantes de grado octavo en los procesos de tratamiento y conversión de los números racionales, con los sistemas semióticos textual, fraccionario y gráfico. El estudio se realizó con 27 estudiantes de tres instituciones educativas; una de las conclusiones a que se llegó, es la dificultad para representar el objeto de estudio de diferentes formas (fraccionario, gráfico y textual)

Diabetes, intracranial stenosis and microemboli in asymptomatic carotid stenosis

Background: The risk of stroke in patients with asymptomatic carotid stenosis (ACS) is now so low that it is important to have methods to identify those patients most likely to benefit from intervention, or who may require special consideration in choice of medical therapy. We studied the prediction of stroke, death or transient ischemic attacks (stroke/death/TIA) in patients with ACS by intracranial arterial stenosis, and microemboli on transcranial Doppler (TCD), and the effect of diabetes mellitus on microemboli, intracranial stenosis and risk of events. Methods: Patients with ACS \u3e 60% by Doppler ultrasound were recruited from the Stroke Prevention Clinic of University Hospital, London, Canada. All 339 participants underwent TCD for detection of intracranial stenosis and detection of microemboli, and carotid ultrasound to measure extracranial stenosis and total carotid plaque area. Participants were followed for three years, to determine the risk of stroke/death/TIA. Results: Stroke/death/TIA occurred in 38% of patients with microemboli versus 10% without (p=0.0001), and in 18% of patients with intracranial stenosis, versus 10% without (p=0.042). Diabetics were significantly more likely to have intracranial stenosis (45% vs. 29%, p =0.014), microemboli (38% vs. 10%, p \u3c0.0001), and had significantly higher risk of stroke/death/TIA over three years (21% vs. 11% without; p=0.024). Survival free of stroke, TIA or death was significantly better without microemboli or intracranial stenosis (p\u3c0.0001). Conclusions: Diabetes, microemboli and intracranial stenosis predicted higher risk of stroke, death or TIA than did extracranial stenosis or total plaque area; diabetics may need more intensive therapy

Visualization of Sensor Data in Virtual Globes

Ponència presentada en AGILE’2012 International Conference on Geographic Information Science, "Multidisciplinary Research on Geographical Information in Europe and Beyond" celebrat a Avignon, els dies 24-27 d'abril de 2012Virtual Globes have become a common platform for visualizing geographical data. The capability for customization, extensibility and the support of interaction with the visualized elements are some of the aspects to consider when selecting a Virtual Globe for visualization. For visualizing sensor data, aspects such as cardinality, the nature of the data and its temporal and spatial dimensions have to be considered. In this paper we present a prototype application to visualize sensor data retrieved from SOS servers over the NASA World Wind virtual Globe. For implementing the prototype application we relied on a categorization of the sensor data that provides possible visualization methods. The prototype has integrated the SEXTANTE library to enable data analysis over sensor data and include the results as part of the visualizations
