ASRM case insulation design and development
This paper describes the achievements made on the Advanced Solid Rocket Motor (ASRM) case insulation design and development program. The ASRM case insulation system described herein protects the metal case and joints from direct radiation and hot gas impingement. Critical failure of solid rocket systems is often traceable to failure of the insulation design. The wide ranging accomplishments included the development of a nonasbestos insulation material for ASRM that replaced the existing Redesigned Solid Rocket Motor (RSRM) asbestos-filled nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) along with a performance gain of 300 pounds, and improved reliability of all the insulation joint designs, i.e., segmented case joint, case-to-nozzle and case-to-igniter joint. The insulation process development program included the internal stripwinding process. This process advancement allowed Aerojet to match to exceed the capability of other propulsion companies
Development and validation of the Vietnamese Primary Care Assessment Tool : provider version
Aim: To adapt the provider version of the Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCAT) for Vietnam and determine its internal consistency and validity.
Background: There is a growing need to measure and explore the impact of various characteristics of health care systems on the quality of primary care. It would provide the best evidence for policy makers if these evaluations come from both the demand and supply sides of the health care sector. Comparatively more researchers have studied primary care quality from the consumer perspective than from the provider's perspective. This study aims at the latter.
Method: Our study translated and adapted the PCAT provider version (PCAT PE) into a Vietnamese version, after which a cross-sectional survey was conducted to examine the feasibility, internal consistency and validity of the Vietnamese PCAT provider version (VN PCAT PE). All general doctors working at 152 commune health centres in Thua Thien Hue province had been selected to participate in the survey.
Findings: The VN PCAT PE is an instrument for evaluation of primary care in Vietnam with 116 items comprising six scales representing four core primary care domains, and three additional scales representing three derivative domains. From the translation and cultural adaptation stage, two items were combined, two items were removed and one item was added. Six other items were excluded due to problems in item-total correlations. All items have a low non-response or 'don't know/don't remember' response rate, and there were no floor or ceiling effects. All scales had a Cronbach's alpha above 0.80, except for the Coordination scale, which still was above the minimum level of 0.70.
Conclusion: The VN PCAT PE demonstrates adequate internal consistency and validity to be used as an effective tool for measuring the quality of primary care in Vietnam from the provider perspective
Development and validation of the Vietnamese primary care assessment tool
Objective : To adapt the consumer version of the Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCAT) for Vietnam and determine its internal consistency and validity.
Design : A quantitative cross sectional study.
Setting : 56 communes in 3 representative provinces of central Vietnam.
Participants : Total of 3289 people who used health care services at health facility at least once over the past two years.
Results : The Vietnamese adult expanded consumer version of the PCAT (VN PCAT-AE) is an instrument for evaluation of primary care in Vietnam with 70 items comprising six scales representing four core primary care domains, and three additional scales representing three derivative domains. Sixteen other items from the original tool were not included in the final instrument, due to problems with missing values, floor or ceiling effects, and item-total correlations. All the retained scales have a Cronbach’s alpha above 0.70 except for the subscale of Family Centeredness.
Conclusions : The VN PCAT-AE demonstrates adequate internal consistency and validity to be used as an effective tool for measuring the quality of primary care in Vietnam from the consumer perspective. Additional work in the future to optimize valid measurement in all domains consistent with the original version of the tool may be helpful as the primary care system in Vietnam further develops
Critical property of spin-glass transition in a bond-disordered classical antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model with a biquadratic interaction
Motivated by puzzling spin-glass behaviors observed in many pyrochlore-based
magnets, effects of magnetoelastic coupling to local lattice distortions were
recently studied by the authors for a bond-disordered antiferromagnet on a
pyrochlore lattice [Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 047204 (2011)]. Here, we extend the
analyses with focusing on the critical property of the spin-glass transition
which occurs concomitantly with a nematic transition. Finite-size scaling
analyses are performed up to a larger system size with 8192 spins to estimate
the transition temperature and critical exponents. The exponents are compared
with those in the absence of the magnetoelastic coupling and with those for the
canonical spin-glass systems. We also discuss the temperature dependence of the
specific heat in comparison with that in canonical spin-glass systems as well

Optimal design of nonuniform FIR transmultiplexer using semi-infinite programming
This paper considers an optimum nonuniform FIR transmultiplexer design problem subject to specifications in the frequency domain. Our objective is to minimize the sum of the ripple energy for all the individual filters, subject to the specifications on amplitude and aliasing distortions, and to the passband and stopband specifications for the individual filters. This optimum nonuniform transmultiplexer design problem can be formulated as a quadratic semi-infinite programming problem. The dual parametrization algorithm is extended to this nonuniform transmultiplexer design problem. If the lengths of the filters are sufficiently long and the set of decimation integers is compatible, then a solution exists. Since the problem is formulated as a convex problem, if a solution exists, then the solution obtained is unique and the local solution is a global minimum

In this letter, the normalized histogram of the state variable of first-order digital filters with two’s complement arithmetic is investigated. When the pole of the digital filter is between 1 and 2, it is found that the possibility of occurrence of the state variable in certain region is close to zero no matter what the initial condition is. Some analytic results are given to account for this phenomenon
Simultaneous multiwavelength study of the reaction of phenolphthalein with sodium hydroxide
A photodiode array (PDA) spectrophotometer was used to study the
fading reaction of phenolpthalein in dilute sodium hydroxide
solution. The principal component analysis (PCA) method was
employed to identify the number of light absorbing species in the
kinetics system. The target factor analysis (TFA) procedure,
coupled with the Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfard-Shanno (BFGS)
optimization method, was applied to the observed data to deduce the
rate constants and the concentration-time profile of the reaction. The
internal referencing method was shown to be essential in improving
the quality of data obtained by a single beam PDA

An experimental study of airfoil instability tonal noise with trailing edge serrations
This paper presents an experimental study of the effect of trailing edge serrations on airfoil instability noise. Detailed aeroacoustic measurements are presented of the noise radiated by an NACA-0012 airfoil with trailing edge serrations in a low to moderate speed flow under acoustical free field conditions. The existence of a separated boundary layer near the trailing edge of the airfoil at an angle of attack of 4.2 degree has been experimentally identified by a surface mounted hot-film arrays technique. Hot-wire results have shown that the saw-tooth surface can trigger a bypass transition and prevent the boundary layer from becoming separated. Without the separated boundary layer to act as an amplifier for the incoming Tollmien-Schlichting waves, the intensity and spectral characteristic of the radiated tonal noise can be affected depending upon the serration geometry. Particle Imaging Velocimetry (PIV) measurements of the airfoil wakes for a straight and serrated trailing edge are also reported in this paper. These measurements show that localized normal-component velocity fluctuations that are present in a small region of the wake from the laminar airfoil become weakened once serrations are introduced. Owing to the above unique characteristics of the serrated trailing edges, we are able to further investigate the mechanisms of airfoil instability tonal noise with special emphasis on the assessment of the wake and non-wake based aeroacoustic feedback model. It has been shown that the instability tonal noise generated at an angle of attack below approximately one degree could involve several complex mechanisms. On the other hand, the non-wake based aeroacoustic feedback mechanism alone is sufficient to predict all discrete tone frequencies accurately when the airfoil is at a moderate angle of attack
Cytomegalovirus-associated colitis mimicking necrotizing enterocolitis – A near miss diagnosis of neonatal colonic stricture
Although cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common congenital infection in neonates, most patients are asymptomatic. Gastrointestinal manifestation is unusual. In this report, we described a newborn with perinatal CMV infection presented with symptoms mimicking necrotizing enterocolitis. We hope to alert clinicians about this possible diagnosis when managing newborn gastrointestinal diseases.published_or_final_versio
