Mixed oligopoly and spatial agglomeration in quasi-linear city

We apply a spatial model that includes both circular-city and linear-city models as special cases to the analysis of location-quantity model in mixed oligopoly. We find that the equilibrium pattern continuously moves from that of the circular-city to that of the linear-city and that the linear-city result is more likely in our setting as the equilibrium location.Linear-city, Circular-city, Location-quantity, Mixed oligopoly

    Option Package Bundling

This paper analyzes the optimality of package bundling by focusing on the ?main and accessory?relationship between two goods. In particular, we consider option package bundling in which an optional good is valuable only if it is consumed together with a certain (nonoptional) base good. We develop a model of option package bundling for a monopolist in which buyers?valuations are independently and uniformly distributed. We also allow inter-relationship between valuations by assuming that the reservation value of the bundle can be greater or less than the sum of the innate value of both goods. Our analysis observes that mixed bundling, in which the base good is sold with or without the optional good, yields a higher pro?t than pure bundling if and only if the range of the optional good valuation exceeds a threshold value. We then conduct a welfare analysis of the bundling choice. The result is surprising: pure bundling is always desirable from the social welfare viewpoint when a monopolist chooses mixed bundling.Multiproduct monopoly; Bundling; Optional goods; Interdepen-dent valuations.

    Inequality aversion in long-term contracts

This paper examines a two-period moral hazard model with an inequality-averse agent. We show how the agent's past performance will help the principal to relax incentive compatibility constraints and how the existence of an inequality aversion of the agent affects a level of wage in each period in a long-term contract. In particular, we focus on the performance in period 1 on the level of wage in period 2. We show that the agent's wage in period 2 depends on performance in periods 1 and 2. This implies that the long-term relationship creates the opportunity for intertemporal risk and inequality sharing

    マクロファージからのリポポリサッカライド誘導NO産生に対するAsp-hemolysin関連合成ペプチドP-21の影響

To clarify the effect of Asp-hemolysin-related synthetic peptide (P-21) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO) production in murine peritoneal macrophages (Mφ) was demonstrated this study. P-21 inhibited LPS (from Escherichia coli O111 : B4) -induced NO production of Mφ in a dose-dependent manner. P-21 slightly effected on NO production induced by LPS from Klebsiella pneumonias in Mφ. The inhibition ability of the P-21 was influenced by differences of LPS from various strains. These results suggest that P-21 has effects on the bioactivity of LPS, such as NO production in Mφ

We investegated the effects of nine possible endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) on the nitric oxide (NO) production and growth of mouse peritoneal macrophages. Genistein and coumestrol inhibited lipopolysaccharide-induced NO production in macrophages, whereas other EDCs had no effect. In WST-8 assay, the growth of mouse macrophages was induced by 17β-estradiol, bisphenol A, nonylphenol, diethyl phthalete, genistein and daidzein. In addition, the cell viability of daidzein-treated macrophages was 1.7-fold increased as compared with non-treated macrophages. These results suggest that EDCs affect cellular function in macrophages

How to license a public licensor's technology to an asymmetric duopoly.

We consider the issue of optimal licensing from the viewpoint of an external public licensor maximizing social welfare. Our principal findings are as follows. Fee licensing is always at least as good as royalty licensing for the public licensor. For small innovations, there exists a subgame perfect equilibrium outcome in which the public licensor licenses his patented technology to only an efficient (low-cost) firm maximizing its profit
