Observation of superspin glass state in magnetically textured ferrofluid (gamma-Fe2O3)
Magnetic properties in a magnetically textured ferrofluid made out of
interacting maghemite (gamma-Fe2O3) nanoparticles suspended in glycerin have
been investigated. Despite the loss of uniform distribution of anisotropy axes,
a superspin glass state exists at low temperature in a concentrated, textured
ferrofluid as in the case of its non-textured counterpart. The onset of
superspin glass state was verified from the sample's AC susceptibility. The
influence of the anisotropy axis orientation on the aging behavior in the
glassy states is also discussed
Bilateral stellate neuroretinitis revealing a pheochromocytoma
Neuroretinitis (NR) is an inflammatory disorder characterized by optic disc edema and subsequent formation of a macular star. We present a case of a 33 year old woman patient admitted for a progressive bilateral visual loss since two weeks. Fundus examination showed bilateral stellate neuroretinitis. Physical examination revealed a malignant hypertension of 210/150mmHg. Magnetic resonance imaging identified a left suprarenal mass, whereas urinary catecholamine level was abnormally high which supported a diagnosis of pheochromocytoma. The patient underwent a laparoscopic left suprarenal adrenalectomy after successful control of blood pressure. histopathologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma. Visual acuity was restored and the retinal alterations disappeared 7 months after surgery
Shrinkage and mechanical performance of geopolymeric mortars based on calcined Tunisian clay
Infrastructure rehabilitation represents a multitrillion dollar opportunity for the construction industry. Since the majority of the existent infrastructures are Portland cement concrete based this means that concrete infrastructure rehabilitation is a hot issue to be dealt with. Geopolymers are novel inorganic binders with high potential to replace Portland cement based ones. Geopolymerization is a complex chemical process evolving various aluminosilicate oxides with silicates under highly alkaline conditions, yielding polymeric units, similar to those of an aluminosilicate glass. So far very few studies in the geopolymer field have addressed the rehabilitation of deteriorated concrete structures. This paper discloses some results of an investigation concerning the development geopolymeric repair mortars based on a calcined Tunisian clay. The results show that Tunisian calcined clay based mortars have hydration products with typical geopolymeric phases. Results also show that the geopolymeric mortar shows a high unrestrained shrinkage behavior and that its modulus of elasticity is below the threshold required for this repair mortars

Results show that the geopolymeric mortar has a high compressive strength and a lower unrestrained shrinkage performance as long as partial replacement by metakaolin is carried out. The results also show that Tunisian calcined clay based mortars have hydration products with typical geopolymeric phases

Superspin glass aging behavior in textured and nontextured frozen ferrofluid
The effect of magnetic anisotropy-axis alignment of individual nanoparticles
on the collective aging behavior in the superspin glass state of a frozen
ferrofluid has been investigated. The ferrofluid studied here consists of
maghemite nanoparticles (\gamma-Fe2O3, mean diameter = 8.6 nm) dispersed in
glycerin at a volume fraction of ~15%. The low temperature aging behavior has
been explored through 'zero-field cooled magnetization' (ZFCM) relaxation
measurements using SQUID magnetometry. The ZFCM response functions were found
to scale with effective age of the system in both textured and non-textured
superspin glass states, but with markedly different scaling exponents, \mu. The
value of {\mu} was found to shift from ~0.9 in non-textured case to ~ 0.6 in
the textured case, despite the identical cooling protocol used in both
experiments
From modular invariants to graphs: the modular splitting method
We start with a given modular invariant M of a two dimensional su(n)_k
conformal field theory (CFT) and present a general method for solving the
Ocneanu modular splitting equation and then determine, in a step-by-step
explicit construction, 1) the generalized partition functions corresponding to
the introduction of boundary conditions and defect lines; 2) the quantum
symmetries of the higher ADE graph G associated to the initial modular
invariant M. Notice that one does not suppose here that the graph G is already
known, since it appears as a by-product of the calculations. We analyze several
su(3)_k exceptional cases at levels 5 and 9.Comment: 28 pages, 7 figures. Version 2: updated references. Typos corrected.

Incidence of Gastric Cancer in Marrakech and Casablanca, Morocco
Gastric cancer is the fifth most common cancer globally with over 70% of new cases occurring in developing countries. In Morocco, oncologists in Marrakech suspected higher frequency of gastric cancer compared to Casablanca, a city 150 kilometers away. This study calculated age-specific, sex-specific, and total incidence rates of gastric cancer in Marrakech and was compared to the Casablanca population-based cancer registry. Using medical records from Center Hospital University Mohammad VI and reports from 4 main private pathology laboratories in Marrakech, we identified 774 patients for the period 2008–2012. Comparison of rates showed higher age-specific incidence in Marrakech in nearly all age groups for both genders. A higher total incidence in Marrakech than in Casablanca was found with rates of 5.50 and 3.23 per 100,000, respectively. Incidence was significantly higher among males in Marrakech than males in Casablanca (7.19 and 3.91 per 100,000, resp.) and females in Marrakech compared to females in Casablanca (3.87 and 2.58 per 100,000, resp.). Future studies should address possible underestimation of gastric cancer in Marrakech, estimate incidence in other regions of Morocco, and investigate possible risk factors to explain the difference in rates
Risk Factors for Chronic Mastitis in Morocco and Egypt
Chronic mastitis is a prolonged inflammatory breast disease, and little is known about its etiology. We identified 85 cases and 112 controls from 5 hospitals in Morocco and Egypt. Cases were women with chronic mastitis (including periductal, lobular, granulomatous, lymphocytic, and duct ectasia with mastitis). Controls had benign breast disease, including fibroadenoma, benign phyllodes, and adenosis. Both groups were identified from histopathologically diagnosed patients from 2008 to 2011, frequency-matched on age. Patient interviews elicited demographic, reproductive, breastfeeding, and clinical histories. Cases had higher parity than controls (OR = 1.75, 1.62–1.90) and more reported history of contraception use (OR = 2.73, 2.07–3.61). Cases were less likely to report wearing a bra (OR = 0.56, 0.47–0.67) and less often used both breasts for breastfeeding (OR = 4.40, 3.39–5.72). Chronic mastitis cases were significantly less likely to be employed outside home (OR = 0.71, 0.60–0.84) and more likely to report mice in their households (OR = 1.63, 1.36–1.97). This is the largest case-control study reported to date on risk factors for chronic mastitis. Our study highlights distinct reproductive risk factors for the disease. Future studies should further explore these factors and the possible immunological and susceptibility predisposing conditions
