The present study aims to know  the degree of practice of  some life skills among university students  ، as well as examining the significance of differences accordinge to gender variables and academic  level، The two researchers used the descriptive approach to achieve the objectives of the study and the application of the life skills scale on a random sample of 240 students،The results were summarized and analyzed using statistical analysis spss , The results showed that the degree of practice of life skills of the university students was moderate, and the absence of statistically significante differences by gender and academic level

Deep mitochondrial DNA phylogeographic divergence in the threatened aoudad Ammotragus lervia (Bovidae, Caprini)

The aoudad or Barbary sheep (Ammotragus lervia) is a threatened ungulate emblematic of North Africa, whose population structure and subspecific taxonomy have not been examined genetically. This knowledge is essential and urgently needed to inform ongoing conservation and management efforts. We analysed the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene and four nuclear genes (casein kappa, spectrin beta nonerythrocytic 1, thyroglobulin, thyrotropin subunit beta) for the first phylogeographic survey of the aoudad, and uncovered a deep Mediterranean-Saharan mitochondrial split separating two highly distinct evolutionary lineages. Their level of divergence is greater than or comparable to those observed between several pairs of congeneric species of different caprine genera. The split was estimated to have occurred in the Early Pleistocene, about 1.3 million years ago. None of the four nuclear genes surveyed, chosen because they have been used in phylogeographic and species-level phylogenetic studies of bovids, allowed us to detect, likely due to their slow evolutionary rate, the substantial and geographically coherent subdivision revealed by mitochondrial DNA. This study is evidence and testament to the ability of mitochondrial DNA, probably unrivalled by any other single-locus marker, as an exploratory tool for investigating population genealogy and history and identifying potential evolutionarily significant units for conservation in animals.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Analytical assessment of the filed results on the PV system connectors performance under operating temperature

In this study, we will shed light on the aggressive effect of a blowing sandstorm in the presence of high temperatures on the photovoltaic inter-module connectors in a solar station located in the desert environment of southwestern Algeria. After a short period of operation, it is observed that the MC4 connectors, which tighten the interconnection between the photovoltaic modules, are completely faulty because of sand grains carried away by a wind blowing at an average annual speed, which exceeds 6 m/s. Then, we analyzed and evaluated the connector failure to propose an appropriate solution. We checked the variations of the intrinsic temperatures of each connector employing the thermocouple for the three cases of operating temperatures, as well as the current measurement flowing through each connector, to calculate the powers dissipated in each branch of the circuit. Finally, this experimental work shows that a loss of power reaches almost 10% from the nominal power of the typical case. The proposed solution for this problem is to cover the connectors with an impervious plastic cover

Cytoprotective and Antioxidants in Peroxisomal Neurodegenerative Diseases

    Get PDF
Several of the peroxisomal neurodegenerative disorders are the consequence of a specific deficiency of an enzyme or a transporter involved in peroxisomal beta-oxidation of very long chain fatty acids [1,2]. One of the hallmarks in these peroxisomal rare neurodegenerative diseases and in other common demyelinating disorders is the accompanying oxidative damage and neuroinflammation [3]. Compelling data indicates that oxidative stress can activate microglia leading to the overproduction of pro-inflammatory molecules [4,5]. Thus, targeting oxidative stress to limit neuroinflammation may open a new pharmacological therapy window for these still incurable devastating peroxisomal diseases. Here, we present different natural (resveratrol) [6] and synthetic (organoselenides) [7] antioxidant compounds for their capacity of scavenging oxidative stress and in the perspective therapeutic use against oxidative damage in peroxisomal disorders

Energy and environmental performance analysis of grid-connected photovoltaic systems under similar outdoor conditions in the Saharan environment

The aim of this paper is to present a one-year performance analysis of four grid-connected PV systems installed at Ghardaia city in Algeria’s Sahara. The grid-connected PV systems are based on four different PV module technologies which are: monocrystalline silicon (m-Si), multi-crystalline silicon (mc-Si), cadmium telluride (Cd-Te) and amorphous (a-Si) PV module technologies. The PV systems based on the thin film technologies have their performance ratio better throughout the year when the performance ratio of the mc-Si technology is better in the winter season. The a-Si PV system has its performance ratio about 6.13 % more better than mc-Si and 8.90 % better than m-Si. The AC energy produced with the a-Si PV system is 13.32 % more than what the mc-Si system produces. It was found that the a-Si PV system performs better than the other technologies under the Saharan climate conditions of Ghardaia city. The energy payback time (EPBT) and greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions of the different PV systems were analyzed. The EPBT and GHG emissions per year, vary from a minimum value of 2.8 years to a maximum value of 5.73 years and from 13.24 tons to 32.03 tons of CO2/kWh for CdTe and m-Si respectively. The CdTe PV system performs better in terms of EPBT and GHG emissions compared to the other technologies (m-Si, mc-Si and a-Si) due to its low life cycle energy requirement
