A survey was carried out towards the end of the year 2011and early 2012 to elucidate the perception of “fadama” III farmers, in the 16 local government areas of Kwara state, about Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The study was carried out by flexible semi-structured interview survey method questionnaires which were distributed equally (i.e. 20 respondents per Local Government Area). The results of the survey indicated that 99.7% of the respondents are indigenes of Kwara state; majority are males (87.5%) while 95.6% are married. Eighty percent of the respondents fall between the age bracket of 30 and 59 years with a mean of 46.7 years. Only 20% had no formal education and the mean farming experience is 24.3 years. Forty seven percent of the total respondents practiced livestock farming with the most commonly kept animal being goat (32.8%). Twelve percent of the respondents engage in fish farming, while 80.6% engage in crop production. The most widely planted crop is maize (72.2%), while 18.3% and 10% of respondents, believed insects and diseases respectively to be the most important factors responsible for yield reductions. The results also indicated that farm size and frequency of extension visits to respondents’ farm are positively correlated (r = 0.242 and r = 0.219 respectively). Twothird of the respondents were aware of IPM and a large majority (82%), claimed to practice it. The study showed that under environment friendly atmosphere, IPM knowledge by “fadama” III farmers could ensure improved agricultural productivity in Kwara State - Nigeria.Key words: Fadama, Self-sufficiency, Disease awareness, Extension agents, Resource Management, Nigerian agricultur

This work describes the preparation of n-Cu2O layer by the electroless methods of boiling and immersion of copper plates in 0.001M  CuSO4Electron Microscopy (SEM) have been used to characterize the oxide films deposited. XRD studies show, for the first time, that cuprous oxide (Cu2O) and cupric oxide (CuO) were deposited by the two methods. The dissolution of the oxide layer for boiling above the 60 minutes time was found to be due to the turbulent nature of the boiling solution. There was no dissolution of the oxide layer in the case of the immersion method. The thickness of the films deposited for 60 minutes boiling andthat obtained by the immersion method at the solution pH of 9.83 are approximately 4.8 ìm and 3.8ìm, respectively. The resistivities of the oxide layers were found to be 75.64 Ùcm and 61.32 Ùcm, respectively. Annealing of the sample for 60 minutes by boiling, changes the mixed oxides(Cu2O-CuO) into the single phase Cu2O.Keywords: n-Cu2O deposition, boiling and immersion methods

Potato is affected by numerous diseases. Among those diseases, late blight (Phytophthora infestans) and rhizoctonia (Rhizoctonia solani) have a strong economic impact. Organic farming doesn’t have efficient protection products to control those diseases and to guarantee yield and production quality. Furthermore, we observe that organic food chain propose the same cultivars as the traditional food chain and those cultivars are generally susceptible to late blight. Regarding to the trials managed to propose new cultivars to Swiss cultivars recommendation list, there are numerous new cultivars with interesting resistance profile. Among 141 cultivars tested, 30 could be proposed to the organic food chain. Indeed, those cultivars are less susceptible to late blight and rhizoctonia and can cover the whole range of potato utilization from boiled potato to French fries and crisps
