Three new mixed-chelate copper complexes with 3-aminoquinoxaline-2-carbonitrile N1,N4-dioxide derivatives and alanine as ligands were synthesized in solid state. The spectroscopic characterization (FTIR, EPR, UV-Vis) showed that copper coordinated through the amine and the N-oxide groups of the quinoxaline derivatives and the amine and carboxylate moieties from alanine forming a dimeric species. The tree complexes showed in vitro activity against M. tuberculosis H37Rv (ATCC 27294) similar to that of ethambutol while they are inactive against E. coli and S. aureus.

Design of novel iron compounds as potential therapeutic agents against tuberculosis

In the search for new therapeutic tools against tuberculosis two novel iron complexes, [Fe(L–H)3], with 3-\ud aminoquinoxaline-2-carbonitrile N1,N4-dioxide derivatives (L) as ligands, were synthesized, characterized by\ud a combination of techniques, and in vitro evaluated. Results were compared with those previously reported\ud for two analogous iron complexes of other ligands of the same family of quinoxaline derivatives. In addition,\ud the complexes were studied by cyclic voltammetry and EPR spectroscopy. Cyclic voltammograms of the iron\ud compounds showed several cathodic processes which were attributed to the reduction of the metal center\ud (Fe(III)/Fe(II)) and the coordinated ligand. EPR signals were characteristic of magnetically isolated high-spin\ud Fe(III) in a rhombic environment and arise from transitions between mS=±1/2 (geff~9) or mS=±3/2\ud (geff~4.3) states. Mössbauer experiments showed hyperfine parameters that are typical of high-spin Fe(III)\ud ions in a not too distorted environment. The novel complexes showed in vitro growth inhibitory activity on\ud Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv (ATCC 27294), together with very low unspecific cytotoxicity on\ud eukaryotic cells (cultured murine cell line J774). Both complexes showed higher inhibitory effects on M.\ud tuberculosis than the “second-line” therapeutic drugs.CYTEDPEDECIBA Químic

Mitochondrial genome sequencing of marine leukaemias reveals cancer contagion between clam species in the Seas of Southern Europe

20 Pág.Clonally transmissible cancers are tumour lineages that are transmitted between individuals via the transfer of living cancer cells. In marine bivalves, leukaemia-like transmissible cancers, called hemic neoplasia (HN), have demonstrated the ability to infect individuals from different species. We performed whole-genome sequencing in eight warty venus clams that were diagnosed with HN, from two sampling points located more than 1000 nautical miles away in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea Coasts of Spain. Mitochondrial genome sequencing analysis from neoplastic animals revealed the coexistence of haplotypes from two different clam species. Phylogenies estimated from mitochondrial and nuclear markers confirmed this leukaemia originated in striped venus clams and later transmitted to clams of the species warty venus, in which it survives as a contagious cancer. The analysis of mitochondrial and nuclear gene sequences supports all studied tumours belong to a single neoplastic lineage that spreads in the Seas of Southern Europe. We thank the Galicia Supercomputing Centre (CESGA) for the availability of informatic resources. Tarallo Fernando, "Forms of subject indétermination : linguistic variation, markers and discourse". Can one apply variationnist linguistics methods to characterize discourse genres. The corpus of oral discourses we study is both thematically centered (food in Brazil) and contrasted with regards to the conditions of their uttering (academic courses and lectures, together with leaders from newspapers, vs. daily speech in the country world). The variable we chose is indeterminate forms of the subject in Brazil Portuguese. Having shown the domain of variation, we examine how forms are divided in the two types of discourse. Contrary to wide-spread opinion, we show there is no necessary correspondence between the presence or distribution of these markers and the type of discourse, although such a distribution does fairly adequately characterize each individual text. Tarallo Fernando. Premiers symptômes syntaxiques d'une grammaire brésilienne

This article studies the linguistic bases of the discussions out of which Brazilian grammar was developed at the turn of the century. From the end of the 19th century, this grammar reveals obvious differencies with respect to Portuguese grammar, differencies that have since continued to increase. We study, here, four important syntactic facts that are specially Brazilian: first, the rearrangement of the preonominal system and its consequencies on the implementation of zero objects and the increasing number of lexical subjects; second, the change in strategies of relativization; third, a rearrangement in the patterns of basic sentences; fourth, changes in the patterns of direct and indirect questionning.Tarallo F.
