How organisation of architecture documentation affects architectural knowledge retrieval
A common approach to software architecture documentation in industry projects is the use of file-based documents. This approach offers a single-dimensional arrangement of the architectural knowledge. Knowledge retrieval from file-based architecture documentation is efficient if the organisation of knowledge supports the needs of the readers; otherwise it can be difficult. In this paper, we compare the organisation and retrieval of architectural knowledge in a file-based documentation approach and an ontology-based documentation approach. The ontology-based approach offers a multi-dimensional organisation of architectural knowledge by means of a software ontology and semantic wiki, whereas file-based documentation typically uses hierarchical organisation by directory structure and table of content. We conducted case studies in two companies to study the efficiency and effectiveness of retrieving architectural knowledge from the different organisations of knowledge. We found that the use of better knowledge organisation correlates with the efficiency and effectiveness of AK retrieval. Professionals who used the knowledge organisation found this beneficial
Exchange Rate Changes and Stock Returns in China: A Markov Switching SVAR Approach
This study empirically investigates the spillover effects between exchange rate changes and stock returns in China. Evidenced by multivariate Granger causality tests, stock returns Granger-cause exchange rates changes, but exchange rate changes exhibit little effect on stock returns. As the conventional structural VAR (SVAR) approach fails to examine the contemporaneous effects, we apply the Markov switching SVAR model to allow the coefficients and variances of endogenous variables to be state-dependent. The regimeswitching estimates indicate that the fluctuation in Shanghai B-share returns has positive effects on the remaining stock markets, but a negative impact on foreign exchange markets. This also reveals that the spillovers have longer durations during two financial crisis periods. Finally, this paper suggests investors to pay attention to systematic risks from RMB policy changes, which might alter the current unidirectional causality in the Chinese financial market
Asymmetric Exchange Rate Exposure of Stock Returns: Empirical Evidence from Chinese Industries
This study explores the asymmetric exchange rate exposure of stock returns building upon the capital asset pricing model (CAPM) framework, using monthly returns of Chinese industry indices. In accordance with the existing literature, industry returns are subject to lagged exposure effects, but the asymmetries vary across industries, which could be due to the discrepancies of trade balance and ownership of certain industries. Furthermore, the dynamic multipliers depict that industry returns quickly respond to changes in the exchange rate and correct the disequilibrium within a short time, making the long run exposure to be symmetric or very small. The remaining shocks are mainly explained by the return of market portfolios. This implies that the ongoing restrictions on the RMB daily trading band do indeed protect the Chinese stock market against the effects of currency movements
Hierarchical Structure of Azbel-Hofstader Problem: Strings and loose ends of Bethe Ansatz
We present numerical evidence that solutions of the Bethe Ansatz equations
for a Bloch particle in an incommensurate magnetic field (Azbel-Hofstadter or
AH model), consist of complexes-"strings". String solutions are well-known from
integrable field theories. They become asymptotically exact in the
thermodynamic limit. The string solutions for the AH model are exact in the
incommensurate limit, where the flux through the unit cell is an irrational
number in units of the elementary flux quantum.
We introduce the notion of the integral spectral flow and conjecture a
hierarchical tree for the problem. The hierarchical tree describes the topology
of the singular continuous spectrum of the problem. We show that the string
content of a state is determined uniquely by the rate of the spectral flow
(Hall conductance) along the tree. We identify the Hall conductances with the
set of Takahashi-Suzuki numbers (the set of dimensions of the irreducible
representations of with definite parity).
In this paper we consider the approximation of noninteracting strings. It
provides the gap distribution function, the mean scaling dimension for the
bandwidths and gives a very good approximation for some wave functions which
even captures their multifractal properties. However, it misses the

H2 in the interstitial channels of nanotube bundles
The equation of state of H2 adsorbed in the interstitial channels of a carbon
nanotube bundle has been calculated using the diffusion Monte Carlo method. The
possibility of a lattice dilation, induced by H2 adsorption, has been analyzed
by modeling the cohesion energy of the bundle. The influence of factors like
the interatomic potentials, the nanotube radius and the geometry of the channel
on the bundle swelling is systematically analyzed. The most critical input is
proved to be the C-H2 potential. Using the same model than in planar graphite,
which is expected to be also accurate in nanotubes, the dilation is observed to
be smaller than in previous estimations or even inexistent. H2 is highly
unidimensional near the equilibrium density, the radial degree of freedom
appearing progressively at higher densities.Comment: Accepted for publication in PR
Probing gluon helicity distribution and quark transversity through hyperon polarization in singly polarized pp collisions
We study the polarization of hyperon in different processes in singly
polarized collisions, in particular its relation to the polarized parton
distributions. We show that by measuring hyperon polarization in particularly
chosen processes, one can extract useful information on these parton
distributions. We show in particular that, by measuring the
polarization in high direct photon production process, one can extract
information on the gluon helicity distribution; and by measuring the transverse
polarization of hyeprons with high in singly polarized reactions, one can
obtain useful information on the transversity distribution. We present the
numerical results obtained for those hyperon polarizations using different
models for parton distribution function and those for the spin transfer in
