Seventy-eight cases of benign tumors derived from the soft tissue of the oral and facial regions were analyzed clinically. The results were as follows. 1) The tumors were classified as hemangioma (28.2%), pleomorphic adenoma (24.4%), fibroma (17.9%) and papilloma (14.1%). The remaining 15.4% consisted of 3 cases of lipoma, 3 of adenolymphoma, and other rare cases. 2) Of the 78 cases, 28 were in males and 50 in females (sex ratio) (1:1.8). 3) The patient ages at the first visit ranged from 5 to 80 years (mean age) (47.9 years). 4) Approximately three quarters (75%) had swelling as the chief complaints. 5) The primary sites was 22 cases (28.2%) in the tongue, 15 (19.2%) in the palate, and 12 (15.4%) in the lip. Hemangiomas and pleomorphic adenomas are more common in the tongue or lip and in the palate respectively. 6) The average long diameter of pleomorphic adenomas and papillomas were 32.9mm and 7.1mm respectively. These values deviated from the 19.6mm average for all cases

Ultra fast quantum key distribution over a 97 km installed telecom fiber with wavelength-division multiplexing clock synchronization

We demonstrated ultra fast BB84 quantum key distribution (QKD) transmission at 625 MHz clock rate through a 97 km field-installed fiber using practical clock synchronization based on wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM). We succeeded in over-one-hour stable key generation at a high sifted key rate of 2.4 kbps and a low quantum bit error rate (QBER) of 2.9%. The asymptotic secure key rate was estimated to be 0.78-0.82 kbps from the transmission data with the decoy method of average photon numbers 0, 0.15, and 0.4 photons/pulse.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, v2 : We added a comment on the significance of our work, some minor corrections, and reference

Strain field of interstitial hydrogen atom in body-centered cubic iron and its effect on hydrogen-dislocation interaction

    Get PDF
Effect of hydrogen in body-centered cubic iron is explored by using the density function theory. Hydrogen atoms increase the concentration of free electrons in the simulation cell and have bonding interaction with Fe atom. Caused by anisotropic strain components of hydrogen atoms in the tetrahedral sites, elastic interaction for hydrogen with screw dislocation has been found. The dependence of hydrogen-screw dislocation interaction on hydrogen concentration is confirmed by repeated stress relaxation tests

Low temperature hydrogenation of iron nanoparticles on graphene

    Get PDF
Hydrogenation of iron nanoparticles was performed both computationally and experimentally where previously chemically-bonded iron hydride is considered to be unachievable under ordinary conditions. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations predict that hydrogenated iron nanoparticles are stabilized on a single-layer graphene/Cu substrate. Experimentally, iron nanoparticles were deposited onto a graphene/Cu substrate by vacuum deposition. Hydrogenation was done at 1atm of hydrogen gas and under liquid nitrogen. Mass spectrometry peak confirmed the hydrogen release from hydrogenated iron nanoparticles while a scanning transmission electron microscopy is used in order to link a geometrical shape of iron hydride nanoparticles between experimental and theoretical treatments. The hydrogenated iron nanoparticles were successfully synthesized where hydrogenated iron nanoparticles are stable under ordinary conditions

Attractiveness and Cooperation in Social Exchange

    No full text
We tested the hypothesis that physically more attractive men are less likely to cooperate in social exchange than less attractive men, while physical attractiveness has no effect on women's tendency toward cooperation, with four different experimental games (Prisoner's Dilemma with 99 players, Allocator Choice with 77 players, Faith with 16 players, and Trust with 21 players). Pictures of the game players were taken after they participated in one of the four games, and those pictures were presented to another set of participants (85 raters in Study 1 and 2, 36 raters in Study 3) for attractiveness ratings. Both male and female raters who were unaware of the photographed game players' actual behavior in the game judged the faces of male defectors (who defected in one of the four games) to be more attractive than those of male cooperators, but they did not give differential attractiveness ratings to female defectors and female cooperators
