Psychopathy and the DSM-IV criteria for antisocial personality disorder.
The Axis II Work Group of the Task Force on Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) has expressed concern that antisocial personality disorder (APD) criteria are too long and cumbersome and that they focus on antisocial behaviors rather than personality traits central to traditional conceptions of psychopathy and to international criteria. R. D. Hare et al describe an alternative to the approach taken in the DSM-III—Revised (DSM-III—R; American Psychiatric Association, 1987), namely, the revised Psychopathy Checklist. The authors also discuss the multisite APD field trials designed to evaluate and compare 4 criteria sets: the DSM-III—R criteria, a shortened list of these criteria, the criteria for dyssocial personality disorder from the 10th edition of the International Classification of Diseases (World Health Organization, 1990), and a 10-item criteria set for psychopathic personality disorder derived from the revised Psychopathy Checklist. Charge injection instability in perfect insulators
We show that in a macroscopic perfect insulator, charge injection at a
field-enhancing defect is associated with an instability of the insulating
state or with bistability of the insulating and the charged state. The effect
of a nonlinear carrier mobility is emphasized. The formation of the charged
state is governed by two different processes with clearly separated time
scales. First, due to a fast growth of a charge-injection mode, a localized
charge cloud forms near the injecting defect (or contact). Charge injection
stops when the field enhancement is screened below criticality. Secondly, the
charge slowly redistributes in the bulk. The linear instability mechanism and
the final charged steady state are discussed for a simple model and for
cylindrical and spherical geometries. The theory explains an experimentally
observed increase of the critical electric field with decreasing size of the
injecting contact. Numerical results are presented for dc and ac biased

Calibration of the LOFAR low-band antennas using the Galaxy and a model of the signal chain
The LOw-Frequency ARray (LOFAR) is used to make precise measurements of radio
emission from extensive air showers, yielding information about the primary
cosmic ray. Interpreting the measured data requires an absolute and
frequency-dependent calibration of the LOFAR system response. This is
particularly important for spectral analyses, because the shape of the detected
signal holds information about the shower development. We revisit the
calibration of the LOFAR antennas in the range of 30 - 80 MHz. Using the
Galactic emission and a detailed model of the LOFAR signal chain, we find an
improved calibration that provides an absolute energy scale and allows for the
study of frequency-dependent features in measured signals. With the new
calibration, systematic uncertainties of 13% are reached, and comparisons of
the spectral shape of calibrated data with simulations show promising

Cosmic Ray Physics with the LOFAR Radio Telescope
The LOFAR radio telescope is able to measure the radio emission from cosmic
ray induced air showers with hundreds of individual antennas. This allows for
precision testing of the emission mechanisms for the radio signal as well as
determination of the depth of shower maximum , the shower observable
most sensitive to the mass of the primary cosmic ray, to better than 20
g/cm. With a densely instrumented circular area of roughly 320 m, LOFAR
is targeting for cosmic ray astrophysics in the energy range -
eV. In this contribution we give an overview of the status, recent
results, and future plans of cosmic ray detection with the LOFAR radio

Relationships between Larval and Juvenile Abundance of Winter-Spawned Fishes in North Carolina, USA
We analyzed the relationships between the larval and juvenile abundances of selected estuarine-dependent fishes that spawn during the winter in continental shelf waters of the U.S. Atlantic coast. Six species were included in the analysis based on their ecological and economic importance and relative abundance in available surveys: spot Leiostomus xanthurus, pinfish Lagodon rhomboides, southern flounder Paralichthys lethostigma, summer flounder Paralichthys dentatus, Atlantic croaker Micropogonias undulatus, and Atlantic menhaden Brevoortia tyrannus. Cross-correlation analysis was used to examine the relationships between the larval and juvenile abundances within species. Tests of synchrony across species were used to find similarities in recruitment dynamics for species with similar winter shelf-spawning life-history strategies. Positive correlations were found between the larval and juvenile abundances for three of the six selected species (spot, pinfish, and southern flounder). These three species have similar geographic ranges that primarily lie south of Cape Hatteras. There were no significant correlations between the larval and juvenile abundances for the other three species (summer flounder, Atlantic croaker, and Atlantic menhaden); we suggest several factors that could account for the lack of a relationship. Synchrony was found among the three southern species within both the larval and juvenile abundance time series. These results provide support for using larval ingress measures as indices of abundance for these and other species with similar geographic ranges and winter shelf-spawning life-history strategies
Plane-Symmetric Inhomogeneous Bulk Viscous Cosmological Models with Variable
A plane-symmetric non-static cosmological model representing a bulk viscous
fluid distribution has been obtained which is inhomogeneous and anisotropic and
a particular case of which is gravitationally radiative. Without assuming any
{\it adhoc} law, we obtain a cosmological constant as a decreasing function of

Evaluating irrigated rice yields in Japan within the climate zonation scheme of the global yield gap atlas
The Global Yield Gap Atlas (GYGA) is an international project that addresses global food production capacity in the form of yield gaps (Yg). The GYGA project is unique in employing its original Climate Zonation Scheme (CZS) composed of three indexed factors, i.e. Growing Degree Days (GDD) related to temperature, Aridity Index (AI) related to available water and Temperature Seasonality (TS) related to annual temperature range, creating 300 Climate Zones (CZs) theoretically across the globe. In the present study, the GYGA CZs were identified for Japan on a municipality basis and analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed on irrigated rice yield data sets, equating to actual yields (Ya) in the GYGA context, from long-term government statistics. The ANOVA was conducted for the data sets over two decades between 1994 and 2016 by assigning the GDD score of 6 levels and the TS score of 2 levels as fixed factors. Significant interactions with respect to Ya were observed between GDD score and TS score for 13 years out of 21 years implying the existence of favourable combinations of the GDD score and the TS score for rice cultivation. The implication was also supported by the observation with Yg. The lower values of coefficient of variance obtained from the CZs characterized by medium GDD scores indicated the stability over time of rice yields in these areas. These findings suggest a possibility that the GYGA-CZS can be recognized as a tool suitable to identify favourable CZs for growing crops
