Structural and optical properties of europium doped zirconia single crystals fibers grown by laser floating zone
Yttria stabilized zirconia single crystal fibers doped with europium ions were developed envisaging optical applications. The laser floating zone technique was used in order to grow millimetric high quality single crystal fibers. The as-grown fibers are completely transparent and inclusion free, exhibiting a cubic structure. Under ultraviolet (UV) excitation, a broad emission band appears at 551 nm. The europium doped fibers are translucent with a tetragonal structure and exhibit an intense red emission at room temperature under UV excitation. The fingerprint transition lines between the 5D0 and 7FJ(0–4) multiplets of the Eu3+ ions are observed with the main emission line at ∼ 606 nm due to 5D0→7F2 transition. Photoluminescence excitation and wavelength dependent the photoluminescence spectra confirm the existence of different Eu3+ optical centers.

Comunicação em painel P51 no 1st European Young Chemists Meeting/ 5th Portuguese Young Chemists Meeting, Guimarães, Portugal, 26-29 Abril 2016.In this communication we report the synthesis of new oxobenzopyranoxazoles 1a,b as photolabile protecting groups and their conjugation with 5-(N-butyloxycarbonyl)aminolevulinic acid 2 via an ester bond. Comportamento térmico de construções em alvenaria de adobe: ensaios experimentais sobre três células de teste à escala 1:4
Em Portugal existe um vasto património construído em alvenaria de adobe que perdurou ao longo dos tempos, localizado sobretudo na zona litoral centro, particularmente na região de Aveiro. Devido ao acentuado estado de degradação que grande parte deste património apresenta, cresceu a necessidade da sua reabilitação.
Este trabalho aborda o tema do comportamento térmico das construções em alvenaria de adobe, face à actual regulamentação térmica portuguesa que apresenta novos desafios no que respeita à utilização da terra crua em novas construções, bem como na determinação das suas propriedades nos processos de reabilitação térmica e energética de edifícios existentes.
Foi realizada uma campanha experimental que consistiu na construção de três células de teste em alvenaria de adobe com diferentes composições à escala ¼ do real, todas com as mesmas dimensões. A base e a cobertura são fronteiras adiabáticas para garantir que as trocas de energia se realizariam pelas paredes de adobe.
Após devidamente monitorizadas foram expostas às mesmas condições climatéricas.
Dos resultados obtidos para as três células de teste foi avaliada e quantificada a inércia térmica e a condutibilidade térmica da terra das respectivas paredes de adobe, sendo posteriormente comparada com os requisitos regulamentares mínimos.
Urge adaptar as nossas construções em terra a condições de habitabilidade e de conforto térmico aos níveis de exigência pretendidos nos dias correntes, melhorando a performance e a atractividade das construções em terra, para que este património secular perdure ao longo dos tempos
Oxazole light triggered protecting groups: synthesis and photolysis of fused heteroaromatic conjugates
Fused oxazole derivatives were synthesized and evaluated as new light triggered protecting groups by using amino acids as model bifunctional molecules. The photosensitivity of ester conjugates was tested under irradiation at 254, 300, and 350 nm. Oxazole conjugates were readily photolyzed with complete release of the amino acid, the best results obtained for naphtho[2,3-d]oxazole at 254 and 300 nm, being the first reported application of this type of heterocycles as photocleavable protecting groups for carboxylic acids.Thanks are due to the Foundation for Science and Technology (Portugal) for financial support through project PTDC/QUI/69607/2006 (FCOMP-01-0124-FEDER-007449) and Centro de Quimica (Universidade do Minho). The Portuguese Severe Asthma Registry: Development, Features, and Data Sharing Policies
The Portuguese Severe Asthma Registry (Registo de Asma Grave Portugal, RAG) was developed by an open collaborative network of asthma specialists. RAG collects data from adults and pediatric severe asthma patients that despite treatment optimization and adequate management of comorbidities require step 4/5 treatment according to GINA recommendations. In this paper, we describe the development and implementation of RAG, its features, and data sharing policies. The contents and structure of RAG were defined in a multistep consensus process. A pilot version was pretested and iteratively improved. The selection of data elements for RAG considered other severe asthma registries, aiming at characterizing the patient's clinical status whilst avoiding overloading the standard workflow of the clinical appointment. Features of RAG include automatic assessment of eligibility, easy data input, and exportable data in natural language that can be pasted directly in patients' electronic health record and security features to enable data sharing (among researchers and with other international databases) without compromising patients' confidentiality. RAG is a national web-based disease registry of severe asthma patients, available at asmagrave.pt. It allows prospective clinical data collection, promotes standardized care and collaborative clinical research, and may contribute to inform evidence-based healthcare policies for severe asthma.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Aumento de la concentración de elementos traza en tejidos de la almeja Ruditapes decussatus trasplantada a zonas influenciadas por actividades humanas (ría Formosa, Portugal)
To examine the extent to which human activities near the Ria Formosa coastal lagoon influence the accumulation of trace elements (TE) in Ruditapes decussatus, individuals were transplanted from a natural bank located in the lower lagoon to three sites located in clam growth grounds under the influence of a small city (Faro), a fish farming centre (Olhão) and a site near the lagoon inlet (Lavajo). Concentrations were determined in substrate of the clam grounds and in the digestive gland, gills, mantle plus siphons, and remaining tissues of clams in four periods of the year. These measurements were accomplished with the monthly survey of the gametogenic stages, condition index, proteins, glycogen, total lipids, pH and osmolarity of hemolymph. Arsenic, Cu, Mn, V, Cr and Pb were preferentially linked to the digestive gland, while Cd was linked to the gills. TE concentrations in the digestive gland and remaining tissues were higher in winter, most likely reflecting additional inputs associated with rain. The lack of disruptions in biological parameters and the prolonged period of spawning and gonad recovery in clams suggest that the current TE availability in the lagoon has a minor influence on the reproductive cycle and hence on clam production.Para examinar en qué medida las actividades humanas cercanas a la laguna costera ría Formosa influyen en la acumulación de elementos traza (ET) en Ruditapes decussatus, se trasplantaron individuos desde un banco natural situado en la parte baja de la laguna a tres sitios localizados en zonas de cultivo de almejas bajo la influencia de una ciudad pequeña (Faro), un centro piscícola (Olhão) y cerca de la entrada de una laguna (Lavajo). Se determinaron las concentraciones de ET en el substrato de locales y en la glándula digestiva, branquias, manto más sifones, y en los tejidos restantes de las almejas en cuatro períodos a lo largo de un año. Estas mediciones fueron realizadas con el estudio mensual de las etapas gametógenas, índice de condición, proteínas, glicóneo, lípidos totales, pH y osmolaridad de la hemolinfa. El As, Cu, Mn, V, Cr y Pb fueron relacionados preferencialmente a la glándula digestiva, mientras que el Cd fue a las branquias. La concentración de ET en la glándula digestiva y los tejidos restantes fue más elevada en invierno, probablemente reflejando los aportes adicionales asociados con la lluvia. La falta de alteraciones de los parámetros biológicos, el período prolongado de desove y la recuperación de las gónadas en las almejas sugieren que la disponibilidad actual de ET en la laguna tienen una influencia menor durante el ciclo reproductivo y, por lo tanto, en la producción de almejas
