    Data mining for software engineering and humans in the loop

    The field of data mining for software engineering has been growing over the last decade. This field is concerned with the use of data mining to provide useful insights into how to improve software engineering processes and software itself, supporting decision-making. For that, data produced by software engineering processes and products during and after software development are used. Despite promising results, there is frequently a lack of discussion on the role of software engineering practitioners amidst the data mining approaches. This makes adoption of data mining by software engineering practitioners difficult. Moreover, the fact that experts’ knowledge is frequently ignored by data mining approaches, together with the lack of transparency of such approaches, can hinder the acceptability of data mining by software engineering practitioners. To overcome these problems, this position paper provides a discussion of the role of software engineering experts when adopting data mining approaches. It also argues that this role can be extended to increase experts’ involvement in the process of building data mining models. We believe that such extended involvement is not only likely to increase software engineers’ acceptability of the resulting models, but also improve the models themselves. We also provide some recommendations aimed at increasing the success of experts involvement and model acceptability

    Diagnosis of Lumbar Spondylolisthesis via Convolutional Neural Networks

    2019 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Data Processing Symposium, IDAP 2019 -- 21 September 2019 through 22 September 2019 -- -- 153040Spondylolisthesis, due to bilateral defects of the posterior vertebral arch, refers to a slippage of a vertebral body over another, usually with the superior vertebral body slipping anteriorly relative to an adjacent inferior vertebral body. The most common site for spondylolisthesis is L4 or L5. As with most spinal diseases, radiological findings are the main ingredients in diagnosing spondylolisthesis. Therefore, computer-Assisted systems can be used in diagnosing spondylolisthesis when adequate experience doctors in the outpatient clinics are not present. In this paper, we looked for a solution to the problem of diagnosis of spondylolisthesis by using two well-known artificial neural networks AlexNet and GoogleLeNet. The data set consists of 272 X-ray images in total. 136 of these images belong to patients suffering from spondylolisthesis, and 136 images without spondylolisthesis. Experimental results demonstrate that GoogleLeNet is 93.87% accuracy and performs slightly better than AlexNet with an accuracy of 91.67 %. © 2019 IEEE

    The extent of leprosy-related disabilities in Istanbul Leprosy Hospital, Turkey

    This study was carried out between January and December 1992 at the Istanbul Leprosy Hospital. Seven hundred and eleven leprosy patients were evaluated according to their age, gender and type of disease and disability according to the WHO disability grading system (1980). There were 527 males (74.2%) and 184 females (25.8%) in the group. The average age was 50.0 +/- 13.5 years and the average duration of disease was 25.9 +/- 13.2 years. Six hundred and seventy-eight patients (95.4%) were in borderline (BL) and lepromatous (LL) leprosy

    189-196Cratageus species are rich in phenols and flavonoids, which are active compounds that possess beneficial effects. This study aimed to identify the antioxidant, antimicrobial, DNA damage protection activities, and the capacities of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), thioredoxin reductase (ThxR), and α-glucosidase inhibition of the methanol extract of Cratageus microphylla. The plant extract inhibited the formation of free radicals in various assay systems, such as 2,-2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), 2,2'-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), lipid peroxidation (anti-LPO) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays. According to the findings, the extract inhibited the lipid peroxidation and neutralized stable DPPH, and ABTS cation radicals with EC50 values of 0.766 ± 0.026 mg/mL, 0.207 ± 0.009 mg/mLand 0.756 ± 0.048 mg/mL, respectively. The extract also acted as a reductant as indicated by the FRAP value (2.841 ± 0.096 mM Fe2+), thus exhibiting its potential as an antioxidant. Moderate AChE (4.94 ± 0.29 mg/mL) and α-glucosidase (14.41 ± 0.29 mg/mL) and significant ThxR (EC50= 0.61 ± 0.06 mg/mL) inhibition activities were observed. DNA damage formation in in vitro assays was 51 % at 0.78 µg/mL concentrations. Therefore, C. microphylla can be considered as a good source of antioxidant, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, anticholinesterase, and anticancer agents
