Electron-Like Fermi Surface and Remnant (pi,0) Feature in Overdoped La1.78Sr0.22CuO4
We have performed an angle-resolved photoemission study of overdoped
La1.78Sr0.22CuO4, and have observed sharp nodal quasiparticle peaks in the
second Brillouin zone that are comparable to data from Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d. The
data analysis using energy distribution curves, momentum distribution curves
and intensity maps all show evidence of an electron-like Fermi surface, which
is well explained by band structure calculations. Evidence for many-body
effects are also found in the substantial spectral weight remaining below the
Fermi level around (pi,0), where the band is predicted to lie above EF.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
A web-based and mobile health social support intervention to promote adherence to inhaled asthma medications: randomized controlled trial
Background: Online communities hold great potential as interventions for health, particularly for the management of chronic illness. The social support that online communities can provide has been associated with positive treatment outcomes, including medication adherence. There are few studies that have attempted to assess whether membership of an online community improves health outcomes using rigorous designs. Objective: Our objective was to conduct a rigorous proof-of-concept randomized controlled trial of an online community intervention for improving adherence to asthma medicine. Methods: This 9-week intervention included a sample of asthmatic adults from the United Kingdom who were prescribed an inhaled corticosteroid preventer. Participants were recruited via email and randomized to either an “online community” or “no online community” (diary) condition. After each instance of preventer use, participants (N=216) were required to report the number of doses of medication taken in a short post. Those randomized to the online community condition (n=99) could read the posts of other community members, reply, and create their own posts. Participants randomized to the no online community condition (n=117) also posted their medication use, but could not read others’ posts. The main outcome measures were self-reported medication adherence at baseline and follow-up (9 weeks postbaseline) and an objective measure of adherence to the intervention (visits to site). Results: In all, 103 participants completed the study (intervention: 37.8%, 39/99; control: 62.2%, 64/117). MANCOVA of self-reported adherence to asthma preventer medicine at follow-up was not significantly different between conditions in either intention-to-treat (P=.92) or per-protocol (P=.68) analysis. Site use was generally higher in the control compared to intervention conditions. Conclusions: Joining an online community did not improve adherence to preventer medication for asthma patients. Without the encouragement of greater community support or more components to sustain engagement over time, the current findings do not support the use of an online community to improve adherence
Nomenclature of the symptoms of head and neck cancer: a systematic scoping review
Copyright \ua9 2024 Bradley, Lee, Albutt, Hardman, Kellar, Odo, Randell, Rousseau, Tikka, Patterson and Paleri.Introduction: Evolution of a patient-reported symptom-based risk stratification system to redesign the suspected head and neck cancer (HNC) referral pathway (EVEREST-HN) will use a broad and open approach to the nomenclature and symptomatology. It aims to capture and utilise the patient reported symptoms in a modern way to identify patients’ clinical problems more effectively and risk stratify the patient. Method: The review followed the PRISMA checklist for scoping reviews. A search strategy was carried out using Medline, Embase and Web of Science between January 1st 2012 and October 31st 2023. All titles, abstracts and full paper were screened for eligibility, papers were assessed for inclusion using predetermined criteria. Data was extracted pertaining to the aims, type of study, cancer type, numbers of patients included and symptoms, presenting complaints or signs and symptoms. Results: There were 9,331 publications identified in the searches, following title screening 350 abstracts were reviewed for inclusion and 120 were considered for eligibility for the review. 48 publications met the eligibility criteria and were included in the final review. Data from almost 11,000 HNC patients was included. Twenty-one of the publications were from the UK, most were retrospective examination of patient records. Data was extracted and charted according to the anatomical area of the head and neck where the symptoms are subjectively and objectively found, and presented according to lay terms for symptoms, clinical terms for symptoms and the language of objective clinical findings. Discussion: Symptoms of HNC are common presenting complaints, interpreting these along with clinical history, examination and risk factors will inform a clinician’s decision to refer as suspected cancer. UK Head and Neck specialists believe a different way of triaging the referrals is needed to assess the clinical risk of an undiagnosed HNC. EVEREST-HN aims to achieve this using the patient history of their symptoms. Does electronic monitoring influence adherence to medication? Randomized controlled trial of measurement reactivity.
BACKGROUND: Electronic monitoring is recommended for accurate measurement of medication adherence but a possible limitation is that it may influence adherence. PURPOSE: To test the reactive effect of electronic monitoring in a randomized controlled trial. METHODS: A total of 226 adults with type 2 diabetes and HbA1c ≥58 mmol/mol were randomized to receiving their main oral glucose lowering medication in electronic containers or standard packaging. The primary outcomes were self-reported adherence measured with the MARS (Medication Adherence Report Scale; range 5-25) and HbA1c at 8 weeks. RESULTS: Non-significantly higher adherence and lower HbA1c were observed in the electronic container group (differences in means, adjusting for baseline value: MARS, 0.4 [95 % CI -0.1 to 0.8, p = 0.11]; HbA1c (mmol/mol), -1.02 [-2.73 to 0.71, p = 0.25]). CONCLUSIONS: Electronic containers may lead to a small increase in adherence but this potential limitation is outweighed by their advantages. Our findings support electronic monitoring as the method of choice in research on medication adherence. (Trial registration Current Controlled Trials ISRCT N30522359)

Dual Nature of the Electronic Structure of the Stripe Phase
High resolution angle-resolved photoemission measurements have been carried
out on (La_1.4-xNd_0.6Sr_x)CuO_4, a model system with static stripes, and
(La_1.85Sr_0.15)CuO_4, a high temperature superconductor (T_c=40K) with dynamic
stripes. In addition to the straight segments near (pi, 0) and (0, pi)
antinodal regions, we have identified the existence of nodal spectral weight
and its associated Fermi surface in the electronic structure of both systems.
The ARPES spectra in the nodal region show well-defined Fermi cut-off,
indicating a metallic character of this charge-ordered state. This observation
of nodal spectral weight, together with the straight segments near antinodal
regions, reveals dual nature of the electronic structure of the stripes due to
the competition of order and disorder
ADAPTIVE PATTERNING FOR PANELIZED PACKAGING
ABSTRACT Fan-Out Wafer-Level Packaging (FOWLP) or fan-out technology has held promise for a number of years; primarily as a means of packaging semiconductor devices with interconnect densities exceeding the capabilities of standard Wafer Level Chip Scale Packaging (WLCSP). With FOWLP technology, die are embedded in a molded panel, and I/Os are then redistributed over the larger effective surface area using conventional WLCSP techniques. The packages are then singulated and attached directly to a printed circuit board (PCB) or lowcost substrate. This technology provides one of the smallest and lightest possible package form factors; enables more I/Os for a given pitch with excellent electrical properties; and eliminates the need for custom substrates used in flip chip or wirebond Ball Grid Array (BGA) packages. Despite its promise, widespread adoption of FOWLP packaging has been limited largely by cost and yield issues. The requirement for high die placement accuracy when forming the molded panel restricts throughput at the die pick-and-place operation, leading to high process costs. Die drift, or movement during panel molding, limits via and RDL design rules and ultimately can result in yield loss when the drift is excessive. Managing or overcoming die offset is one of the keys to making FOWLP competitive with other package formats. This paper describes an approach to FOWLP that allows die offset to increase by an order of magnitude compared with conventional methods. Using a novel Adaptive Patterning* technology, real-time designs are created for each package within each panel during the manufacturing process. After panelization, the position of each die within each molded panel is precisely measured. Information is fed into a proprietary auto-routing design tool on a per panel basis. The resulting pattern layers are then issued to a lithography system which dynamically implements the unique design on a per panel basis. Dynamic layers include various design features such as vias or redistribution layers (RDL). The ability of adaptive patterning to correct for deviations in die location can result in both improved yield and higher panelization throughput, thereby enabling the industry to finally realize the cost, flexibility, and form factor benefits of FOWLP. In the paper, adaptive patterning examples will be presented and the benefits and limitations of the technology will be discussed
From bi-layer to tri-layer Fe nanoislands on Cu3Au(001)
Self assembly on suitably chosen substrates is a well exploited root to
control the structure and morphology, hence magnetization, of metal films. In
particular, the Cu3Au(001) surface has been recently singled out as a good
template to grow high spin Fe phases, due to the close matching between the
Cu3Au lattice constant (3.75 Angstrom) and the equilibrium lattice constant for
fcc ferromagnetic Fe (3.65 Angstrom). Growth proceeds almost layer by layer at
room temperature, with a small amount of Au segregation in the early stage of
deposition. Islands of 1-2 nm lateral size and double layer height are formed
when 1 monolayer of Fe is deposited on Cu3Au(001) at low temperature. We used
the PhotoElectron Diffraction technique to investigate the atomic structure and
chemical composition of these nanoislands just after the deposition at 140 K
and after annealing at 400 K. We show that only bi-layer islands are formed at
low temperature, without any surface segregation. After annealing, the Fe atoms
are re-aggregated to form mainly tri-layer islands. Surface segregation is
shown to be inhibited also after the annealing process. The implications for
