Network Mutual Information and Synchronization under Time Transformations
We investigate the effect of general time transformations on the phase
synchronization (PS) phenomenon and the mutual information rate (MIR) between
pairs of nodes in dynamical networks. We demonstrate two important results
concerning the invariance of both PS and the MIR. Under time transformations PS
can neither be introduced nor destroyed and the MIR cannot be raised from zero.
On the other hand, for proper time transformations the timing between the
cycles of the coupled oscillators can be largely improved. Finally, we discuss
the relevance of our findings for communication in dynamical networks.Comment: 15 p
Synthesis, Characterization and Study of Antibacterial Activity of a New Schiff Base Ligand and Its Complexes with Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) Metal Ions
Some coordination complexes of Co(??), Ni(??), Cu(??), Cd(??) and Hg(??) are reacted in ethanol with Schiff base ligand derived from of 2,4,6- trihydroxybenzophenone and 3-aminophenol using microwave irradiation and then reacted with metal salts in ethanol as a solvent in 1:2 ratio (metal: ligand). The ligand [H4L] is characterized by FTIR, UV-Vis, C.H.N, 1H-NMR,13C-NMR, and mass spectra. The metal complexes are characterized by atomic absorption, infrared spectra, electronic spectra, molar conductance, (C.H.N for Ni(??) complex) and magnetic moment measurements. These measurements indicate that the ligand coordinates with metal (??) ion in a tridentate manner through the nitrogen and oxygen atoms of the ligand, octahedral structures are suggested for these complexes. Antibacterial activity of the ligand [H4L] and its complexes are studied against (gram positive) and (gram negative) bacteria [Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus]. The proposed structure of the complexes using the program, Chem office (2006) and the general formula has been given for the prepared ligand complexes K2[M(H2L)2]
Second-Order Belief Hidden Markov Models
Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) are learning methods for pattern recognition. The
probabilistic HMMs have been one of the most used techniques based on the
Bayesian model. First-order probabilistic HMMs were adapted to the theory of
belief functions such that Bayesian probabilities were replaced with mass
functions. In this paper, we present a second-order Hidden Markov Model using
belief functions. Previous works in belief HMMs have been focused on the
first-order HMMs. We extend them to the second-order model
Double exponential stability of quasi-periodic motion in Hamiltonian systems
We prove that generically, both in a topological and measure-theoretical
sense, an invariant Lagrangian Diophantine torus of a Hamiltonian system is
doubly exponentially stable in the sense that nearby solutions remain close to
the torus for an interval of time which is doubly exponentially large with
respect to the inverse of the distance to the torus. We also prove that for an
arbitrary small perturbation of a generic integrable Hamiltonian system, there
is a set of almost full positive Lebesgue measure of KAM tori which are doubly
exponentially stable. Our results hold true for real-analytic but more
generally for Gevrey smooth systems
Holomorphic linearization of commuting germs of holomorphic maps
Let be germs of biholomorphisms of \C^n fixing the
origin. We investigate the shape a (formal) simultaneous linearization of the
given germs can have, and we prove that if commute and their
linear parts are almost simultaneously Jordanizable then they are
simultaneously formally linearizable. We next introduce a simultaneous
Brjuno-type condition and prove that, in case the linear terms of the germs are
diagonalizable, if the germs commutes and our Brjuno-type condition holds, then
they are holomorphically simultaneously linerizable. This answers to a

Sonogashira diversification of unprotected halotryptophans, halotryptophan containing tripeptides; and generation of a new to nature bromo-natural product and its diversification in water
The blending together of synthetic chemistry with natural product biosynthesis represents a potentially powerful approach to synthesis; to enable this, further synthetic tools and methodologies are needed. To this end, we have explored the first Sonogashira cross-coupling to halotryptophans in water. Broad reaction scope is demonstrated and we have explored the limits of the scope of the reaction. We have demonstrated this methodology to work excellently in the modification of model tripeptides. Furthermore, through precursor directed biosynthesis, we have generated for the first time a new to nature brominated natural product bromo-cystargamide, and demonstrated the applicability of our reaction conditions to modify this novel metabolite
Countrywide spread of OXA-48 carbapenemase in Lebanon: Surveillance and genetic characterization of carbapenem-non-susceptible Enterobacteriaceae in 10 hospitals over a one-year period
© 2014 The Authors. Objectives: To detect, characterize, and assess the genetic clonality of carbapenem-non-susceptible Enterobacteriaceae in 10 Lebanese hospitals in 2012. Methods: Selected Enterobacteriaceae isolates with reduced susceptibility to carbapenems were subject to phenotypic study including antibiotic susceptibility, cloxacillin effect, modified Hodge test, and activity of efflux pump inhibitor. Carbapenemase genes were detected using PCR; clonal relatedness was studied by pulsed field gel electrophoresis. Results: Out of 8717 Enterobacteriaceae isolated in 2012, 102 (1.2%) showed reduced susceptibility to carbapenems. Thirty-one (70%) of the 44 studied clinical isolates harbored blaOXA-48, including 15 Klebsiella pneumoniae, eight Escherichia coli, four Serratia marcescens, three Enterobacter cloacae, and one Morganella morganii. The majority of OXA-48 producers co-secreted an extended-spectrum beta-lactamase, while one had an acquired AmpC of the ACC type. In the non-OXA-48 producers, carbapenem resistance was attributed to the production of acquired AmpC cephalosporinases of MOX or CIT type, outer membrane impermeability, and/or efflux pump overproduction. DNA fingerprints revealed that OXA-48 producers were different, except for clonal relatedness among four K. pneumoniae, two E. coli, two E. cloacae, and three S. marcescens. Conclusions: Nosocomial carbapenem-non-susceptible Enterobacteriaceae are moderately spread in Lebanon and the predominant mechanism is OXA-48 production
(Non)Invariance of dynamical quantities for orbit equivalent flows
We study how dynamical quantities such as Lyapunov exponents, metric entropy,
topological pressure, recurrence rates, and dimension-like characteristics
change under a time reparameterization of a dynamical system. These quantities
are shown to either remain invariant, transform according to a multiplicative
factor or transform through a convoluted dependence that may take the form of
an integral over the initial local values. We discuss the significance of these
results for the apparent non-invariance of chaos in general relativity and
explore applications to the synchronization of equilibrium states and the
elimination of expansions
