Coupled plasmon - phonon excitations in extrinsic monolayer graphene
The existence of an acoustic plasmon in extrinsic (doped or gated) monolayer
graphene was found recently in an {\it ab initio} calculation with the frozen
lattice [M. Pisarra {\it et al.}, arXiv:1306.6273, 2013]. By the {\em fully
dynamic} density-functional perturbation theory approach, we demonstrate a
strong coupling of the acoustic plasmonic mode to lattice vibrations. Thereby,
the acoustic plasmon in graphene does not exist as an isolated excitation, but
it is rather bound into a combined plasmon-phonon mode. We show that the
coupling provides a mechanism for the {\em bidirectional} energy exchange
between the electronic and the ionic subsystems with fundamentally, as well as
practically, important implications for the lattice cooling and heating by
electrons in graphene.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Deterministic creation of stationary entangled states by dissipation
We propose a practical physical system for creation of a stationary
entanglement by dissipation without employing the environment engineering
techniques. The system proposed is composed of two perfectly distinguishable
atoms, through their significantly different transition frequencies, with only
one atom addressed by an external laser field. We show that the arrangement
would easily be realized in practice by trapping the atoms at the distance
equal to the quarter-wavelength of a standing-wave laser field and locating one
of the atoms at a node and the other at the successive antinode of the wave.
The undesirable dipole-dipole interaction between the atoms, that could be
large at this small distance, is adjusted to zero by a specific initial
preparation of the atoms or by a specific polarization of the atomic dipole
moments. Following this arrangement, we show that the dissipative relaxation
can create a stationary entanglement on demand by tuning the Rabi frequency of
the laser field to the difference between the atomic transition frequencies.
The laser field dresses the atom and we identify that the entangled state
occurs when the frequency of one of the Rabi sidebands of the driven atom tunes
to frequency of the undriven atom. It is also found that this system behaves as
a cascade open system where the fluorescence from the dressed atom drives the
other atom with no feedback.Comment: Published versio
Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Performance: Does Financial Reporting Quality Matter?
This study aims to analyze the role of social responsibility in times of crisis, where the study examines whether the role of social responsibility in the corporate performance will depend on its interaction with other basic aspects of the corporate business environment. In the contemporary economic context, information environment considers important aspects of the business environment, therefore, it can be suggested that the impact of social responsibility on the company’s performance will be clearer when considering its interaction with financial reporting quality. To test this argument, data from the Saudi business environment for the year 2020 was collected to explore the relationship between social responsibility and the company’s financial performance during the Corona pandemic, and the role of the financial reporting quality in that relationship. The results were largely consistent with the general argument of the study, the results showed that social responsibility does not affect the financial performance, but the interaction between it and the financial reporting quality positively affects the financial performance of the company during the pandemic period. Therefore, financial reporting quality play a major role in the extent to which social responsibility affects performance. The results represent a motivation for the various parties in the business environment to pay attention to the general framework of the companys business aspects when analyzing performance

Graphical and Non-speech Sound Metaphors in Email Browsing: An Empirical Approach. A Usability Based Study Investigating the Role of Incorporating Visual and Non-Speech Sound Metaphors to Communicate Email Data and Threads.
This thesis investigates the effect of incorporating various information visualisation techniques and non-speech sounds (i.e. auditory icons and earcons) in email browsing. This empirical work consisted of three experimental phases. The first experimental phase aimed at finding out the most usable visualisation techniques for presenting email information. This experiment involved the development of two experimental email visualisation approaches which were called LinearVis and MatrixVis. These approaches visualised email messages based on a dateline together with various types of email information such as the time and the senders. The findings of this experiment were used as a basis for the development of a further email visualisation approach which was called LinearVis II. This novel approach presented email data based on multi-coordinated views. The usability of messages retrieval in this approach was investigated and compared to a typical email client in the second experimental phase. Users were required to retrieve email messages in the two experiments with the provided relevant information such as the subject, status and priority. The third experimental phase aimed at exploring the usability of retrieving email messages by using other type of email data, particularly email threads. This experiment investigated the synergic use of graphical representations with non-speech sounds (Multimodal Metaphors), graphical representations and textual display to present email threads and to communicate contextual information about email threads. The findings of this empirical study demonstrated that there is a high potential for using information visualisation techniques and non-speech sounds (i.e. auditory icons and earcons) to improve the usability of email message retrieval. Furthermore, the thesis concludes with a set of empirically derived guidelines for the use of information visualisation techniques and non-speech sound to improve email browsing.Taibah University in Medina and the Ministry of Higher Education in Saudi Arabia
Thermal Performance and Environmental Assessment of Evaporative Cooling Systems: Case of Mina Valley, Saudi Arabia
This paper presents a detailed description of evaporative cooling systems used for space cooling in Mina Valley, Saudi Arabia. The thermal performance and environmental impact of the evaporative coolers were evaluated. It was found that the evaporative cooling systems used for space cooling in pilgrims' accommodations and in the train stations could reduce energy consumption by as much as 75% and cut carbon dioxide emission by 78% compared to traditional vapour compression systems
Vortex fluidic mediated synthesis of TiO2 nanoparticle/MXene composites
Oxidation of MXene in a vortex fluidic device (VFD) operating under continuous flow results in exfoliation and fragmentation into nanoparticles of surface oxidised 2D material with further oxidation of the nanoparticles into anatase (TiO 2 ). These MXene and anatase nanoparticles co‐assemble into stable micron sized spheres which are topologically smooth, decorating the surface of exfoliated MXene. The formation of this composite material in the dynamic thin film in the VFD was optimised by systematically exploring the operating parameters of the microfluidic platform, determined at 45 o tilt angle for the 20 mm diamater glass tube spinning at 5k rpm, with a flow rate of a colloidal dispersion of MXene in aqueous H 2 O 2 (30%) at 0.75 mL/min, concentration of MXene 0.5 mg/mL
Clinical Management in Diagnosis and Treatment of the Iron Deficiency Anemia in Adults: Systemic Review
This study aimed at exploring with a systematic review the clinical management in diagnosis and treatment of the iron deficiency anemia in adults, as the iron deficiency is the most frequent cause of anemia worldwide. And it impairs quality of life, increases asthenia and can lead to clinical worsening of patients. In addition, iron deficiency has a complex mechanism whose pathologic pathway is recently becoming better understood. This review summarizes the current knowledge regarding diagnostic algorithms for iron deficiency anemia. The majority of aetiologies occur in the digestive tract, and justify morphological examination of the gut. First line investigations are upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy, and when negative, the small bowel should be explored; newer tools such as video capsule endoscopy have also been developed. The treatment of iron deficiency is aetiological if possible and iron supplementation whether in oral or in parenteral form.
Energy Efficient Virtual Machine Services Placement in Cloud-Fog Architecture
The proliferation in data volume and processing requests calls for a new breed of on-demand computing. Fog computing is proposed to address the limitations of cloud computing by extending processing and storage resources to the edge of the network. Cloud and fog computing employ virtual machines (VMs) for efficient resource utilization. In order to optimize the virtual environment, VMs can be migrated or replicated over geo-distributed physical machines for load balancing and energy efficiency. In this work, we investigate the offloading of VM services from the cloud to the fog considering the British Telecom (BT) network topology. The analysis addresses the impact of different factors including the VM workload and the proximity of fog nodes to users considering the data rate of state-of-the-art applications. The results show that the optimum placement of VMs significantly decreases the total power consumption by up to 75% compared to a single cloud placement
