Does God Have a Body? Rāmānuja’s Challenge to the Christian Tradition

    Get PDF
The Christian tradition’s core theological assertion is the embodiment of God in the person of Jesus Christ. Yet, even while asserting God’s incarnation in space and time, the tradition has usually denied embodiment unto the Godhead itself. Theologians have based this denial on Jewish iconoclasm, Greek idealism, and inferences from God’s omnipresence, transcendence, and infinity. This speculative essay will argue that Hindu ƚrÄ«vaiáčŁáč‡ava theologian Rāmānuja successfully addresses these concerns. He argues for the embodiment of an omnipresent, transcendent, and infinite personal God. Rāmānuja largely derives his arguments from the Hindu scriptures. Nevertheless, their rational explication and internal coherence render divine embodiment a legitimate theological option for the Christian tradition, whose scriptures present both anthropomorphic and iconoclastic concepts of God. Since Godhead embodiment is ontologically coherent and rationally defensible, Christians must accept or reject it based on axiological grounds, by evaluating the felt consequences of the doctrine in Christian life. For embodied beings, any pastoral theology should commend embodiment within the Godhead

    Maser cavity servo-tuning system

    Get PDF
Two collocated, weakly coupled probes, one loop and one dipole, detect the magnetic and electric fields inside a maser cavity. Signals from the probes are compared in phase, and the signal output from the phase detector is applied to a varactor, the reactance of which is coupled into the cavity by a microwave coupler. Alternatively, the varactor may be placed inside the cavity. Any deviation of phase from 90 deg as detected by the phase detector will then produce an error signal that will change the reactance coupled into the resonant cavity to change its reactance, and thus correct its resonance frequency. An alternative to using two probes is to use a single disk probe oriented to detect both the magnetic and electric fields, and thus provide the error signal directly

Damages for a Decedent’s Pre-Impact Fear: An Element of Damages under Alaska’s Survivorship Statute

This study is formed with respect to finding a suitable optimization method of the total costs for the number of jobs that are executed in a FEM solver at Scania. FEM (Finite Element Method) is a solution method for solid mechanic problems. It is good to withhold the calculation speed with GPU, CPU and licenses taken into consideration. Computer clusters are usable for the purpose of optimizing the solving speed. Several factors are involved and it is appropriate to consider many parameters to finally end up in a consequent method. The total cost ΣiNi . ( licence cost + hardware cost) was minimized and simulated with respect to the parameters: core number and number of GPU. N is the number of jobs executed. Linear constraints were added to further precise the model though the primary task was to formulate the optimization problem. Man sökte minimera totala kostnaden ΣiNi .

From gravity to grace: finding a redemptive voice among displaced Christians in Europe

This thesis addresses the growing need to understand the religious perspectives of forcibly displaced persons. It looks at the subject in terms of a journey and how a small group of refugees and asylum seekers in Europe retell their journey stories with theological significance. The research asks how these refugees correlate their experiences of faith and displacement. The answer comes as a synthesis that juxtaposes displacement and salvific events. Applying Simone Weil’s idea of decreation to the data from in-depth interviews, the research looks at the individual journeys of refugees and traces these as a journey from creation to re-creation. Aspects of the journey develop at each level. As a creation, the imago Dei connects the person to God. A decreation takes place through displacement that leads the person away from their humanity in a downward spiral of dehumanization. Yet, the decreation of displacement is more than a list of needs and responsibilities; at its vortex is the possibility of a redemptive relationship. Re-creation takes place through a synthesis of displacement and salvific events, and the critical moment is when refugees recognize God's story in their personal story. The faith experience is not a static event; it becomes redemptive as it continues in a dialogical process of relating the journey to God and community. Finally, the result of this synthesis of re-creation and its redemptive process is a new reality that finds expression in shalom, being welcomed, and finding renewed purpose

    Ultra stable frequency distribution system

A system is presented for synchronizing a signal at a remotely located slave station with the phase and frequency of a signal generated at a master station. The signal transmitted at the master station and received by the slave station provides compensation for the phase shift caused by the transmission path delays between the master and slave station. The slave station transmits a signal to the master station at a frequency that is different from the frequency of the signal being transmitted by the master station. The signal transmitted by the slave station is received by the master station while the master station transmitter is off. The signal transmitted by the master station is received by the slave station while the slave station transmitter is off
