The Analysis of Directive Function in the Kelley Armstrong’s Novel The Awakening
This thesis is a research about the analysis of directive function in the
Kelley Armstrong’s novel The Awakening. The aims of this thesis are to identify
the types of directive function used in Kelley Armstrong’s novel and to know how
directive function used in Kelley Armstrong’s novel “The Awakening”.
The writer used Ervin-Tripp’s theory to explain directive function in the
novel. Then, the instrument which is used by the writer was note taking. Along
this instrument, the writer reads the novel, then taking note cards that has different
colour to write directive utterence that was found in the novel, after that the
utterence written down of them then the writer classified directive from the novel.
In this thesis, the writer found five types of directive. They are
imperatives, embedded imperatives, question directives, statements of need and
hints. Next, most of characters in the novel who used imperative type of directive
is a person that has same rank age with the hearer. It is suitable with Ervin-Tripp
theory that the speaker and the hearer who has same age and rank, normally used
imperative form to make someone doing something. Besides, for the others types
of directive, embedded imperative, question directive, statement of need and hints
are used by the characters who has the different age and rank. Additionally, all
the characters in the novel used directive to order, request and giving suggestion
to their interlocutor or the hearer, either explicitly or implicitly.
This thesis entails some information about language function and
describes how language function especially directive used in the novel.
Expectantly, this thesis can stimulate the students of English Literature to learn
more about the language especially about its function
Improving the Listening Achievement of the Students of Smu Negeri 1 Sungguminasa Through the Use of Kangguru English Learning Packages
The objectives of the research were to find out whether or not the use of KangGuru English Learning Packages can improve the listening achievement of the students of SMA Negeri 1 Sungguminasa in learning to listen. The research Pre-experimental method with one group pre-test and post-test design. The procedure of collecting data involved administering pre-test before treatment and then post-test. The population of this research was the eleventh year students of SMA Negeri 1 Sungguminasa, academic year 2015/2016 which consisted of 360 students. The sample was taken by random sampling technique, where the researcher took 4 students in every class and the total of the sample was 36 students. The result of the mean score of the students\u27 listening achievement before being taught through KangGuru English Learning Packages was 62,33 and it was classified as “fair”. Whereas, after doing the treatment, the mean score was 90,69 and it was classified was “very good”. To find out the significance of the difference between pre-test and post-test, the researcher applied t-test. The value of t-test was 11.57 which was greater than the value of t-table 1.689 at the level of significance 0.05 and the degree of freedom was 35. It was revealed that KangGuru English Learning Packages significantly improved the listening achievement of the students

Grammar is the mental of rules and categories that allows humans to form and interpret the words and sentences of the language. Grammar can also be regarded as a necessary “master” skill that enables competence to develop in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. When grammar is incorrect or misunderstood in any of these areas, communication may disrupt. In teaching grammar, the teacher should give some grammar activities to evaluate their comprehending. Sometimes, the students felt bored with it. Therefore, the teacher should establish conditions which make teaching grammar interesting. The use of computer can motivate the students to learn because the audio-visual is more joyful and more interesting to be a teaching media. ANALYSIS OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL BASED ON ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES ON THE NEEDS OF MANAGEMENT STUDENTS AT STIE TRI DHARMA NUSANTARA
The difficulty of finding textbooks that fit the needs of students in Management studies makes researchers interested in analysing English material for teaching at the tertiary level. Needs analysis is the first step in developing and improving teaching materials and improving learning activities. In addition, needs analysis is very effective in evaluating students' needs in relation to English for academic, specific, and general purpose. Musdalifa and Syarifuddin (2017) state that needs analysis is very important and as a guideline for designing syllabi, subject matter, and class activities. This study is entitled "Analysis of Instructional Material Based on English for Specific Purposes on the Needs of Management Students at STIE Tri Dharma Nusantara." Participants in the study were 56 students in the Management study program, 2 English lecturers, 1 Management lecturer and the Head of the Management department. This research method is a descriptive qualitative research. The instruments used in data collection are participant observation, questionnaire, and interview. Data were analysed based on Miles and Huberman's model (2012: 129-136) which included reduction data, display data, and conclusion. The results of this study are the topic of English II material based on the analysis of the needs of students majoring in Management based on English for Specific Purpose. Topics of the material are Asking and Giving Direction, Describing Job, Application Letters and Curriculum Vitae, Job Interviews, Writing E-mails, Management Technical Terms, Pronunciation, Talking to A Foreigner, Business Proposals, and Presentation Skills. Furthermore, the skills most needed by students in Management study programs are speaking skills, followed by listening, reading and writing skills. The topic of the material will be arranged into a syllabus and instructional materials in the form of English language modules II. Therefore, this study pays attention to aspects of English for specific purposes in determining topics and formulating teaching materials in order to be able to improve learning activities. Not only English in general but also English based on the needs of management majors both at the academic level and in the world of work in the future

HUBUNGAN ANTARA KARAKTERISTIK ANGGOTA KELOMPOK TANI DENGAN PENILAIAN TERHADAP PERAN PENGURUS DALAM PELAKSANAAN MUSYAWARAH DI KELOMPOK TANI PADI SIDOMAKMUR DESA DENGKEK KABUPATEN PATI
ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk untuk mengetahui karakteristik petani, menganalisis hubungan antara karakteristik petani anggota kelompok tani dengan penilaian terhadap peran pengurus dalam musyawarah kelompok, menganalisis perbedaan antara penilaian anggota kelompok tani Sidomakmur I dan II di daerah penelitian. Penelitian dilakukan di Desa Dengkek Kabupaten Pati menggunakan metode survei dengan jumlah sampel masing-masing di dua kelompok yaitu 51 dan 49 petani anggota. Uji yang dilakukan yaitu uji Korelasi Kendall dan uji Mann Whitney. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa secara signifikan terbukti terdapat korelasi yang sangat erat antara karakteristik petani dengan penilaian anggota terhadap peran pengurus dalam musyawarah dengan nilai korelasi diatas 0,5. Hasil analisis uji beda Mann Whitney menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan penilaian antara Kelompok Tani Sidomakmur I dan II.
