In Berlin in 1815 Greek Epigraphy becomes officially part of the “Altertums-wissenschaft” through the creation of a Thesaurus of ancient Greek inscriptions under the direction of the philologist August Boeckh. A clay brick found in the Roman necropolis of Frangonissi east of Olympia in 2018 contains the first 13 verses from Book 14 of the Odyssey, with the meeting of Odysseus and the faithful swineherd Eumaios. The brick dates from between the mid 2nd and the beginning of the 3rd cent. A.D. The article describes the find context and the results of the follow-up excavation in 2019/2020. In the main section the inscription is critically edited, the contribution of its lexical and orthographic variants to the tradition of the Homer text is appraised, and the Homeric epigraphic record known to date is examined. Finally the authors speculate about who commissioned it (a teacher or pupil, a rhapsode or Homeristes?) and what that person’s intentions were in selecting these verses

Hyperbaric exposure and oxidative Stress in occupational activities (HEOxS): the study protocol

    Get PDF
Background: Hyperbaric exposure (HE) is proven to be a stressor to several mechanisms in living cells. Even if after homeostasis restoration, harmful effects are expected, in particular a presence of free radicals. These latter are the stimulus to negative phenomenon as inflammation or cancer. In Italy, with 7500 km of sea shores, a large quantity of workers is exposed to HE during occupational activities. A deep knowledge of HE and bodily effects is not well defined; hence a multidisciplinary assessment of risk is needed. To detect one or more indicators of HE a research group is organised, under the INAIL sponsorship. The research project focused on the oxidative stress (OxS) and this paper details on the possible protocol to estimate, with a large amount of techniques on several human liquids, the relationship between OxS and HE. Specific attention will be paid to identify confounding factors and their influence. Methods: Blood and urine will be sampled. Several lab techniques will be performed on samples, both targeted, to measure the level of well-known biomarkers, and untargeted. Regard the formers: products of oxidation of DNA and RNA in urine; inflammation and temperature cytokines and protein carbonyles in blood. Untargeted evaluation will be performed for a metabolomics analysis in urine. Confounding factors: temperature, body fat, fitness, allergies and dietary habits. These factors will be assessed, directly or indirectly, prior and after HE. The final scope of the project is to determine one or more indicators that relates to HE in hits twofold nature: depth and duration. Conclusion: The relationship between OxS and HE is not deeply investigated and literature proposes diverging results. The project aims to define the time dependence of biomarkers related to OxS, to rise knowledge in risk assessment in workers exposed to HE

Un concours de drames « anciens » à Athènes

From a detailed study of an epigraphic list of theatre victors dated to the first half of the third century B. C., in which ‘ old’ dramas are recorded in contest, I formulate the hypothesis that a new contest of ‘ old’ dramas in Athens was instituted in the third century and more precisely at the date 279/ 8. My hypothesis, based on several documentary sources, is that this contest was instituted within the framework of the contests at the Great Dionysia after the victory of the Greeks over the Galatians in 279/ 8, a victory much celebrated by all those who had taken part in it, with honorary decrees, dedications, statues, new festivals and contests.À partir de l’étude détaillée d’une liste épigraphique de vainqueurs de théâtre datée de la première moitié du IIIe siècle, où se trouvent enregistrés des drames anciens en concours, je formule une hypothèse sur l’institution d’un nouveau concours de drames anciens à Athènes au IIIe s. av. Durch Umsetzung von 30 mit 31 im Molverhältnis 1:1 entstand der Oxo-Cluster ClInO[Sn(OtBu)2]3 32, im Molverhältnis 2:1 das tert-Butoxid Sn(OtBu)3InCl3Na[Sn(OtBu)2]2 33.Until now, among heterometallic indium-tert-butoxides only representatives with the metals tin, germanium, nickel and lithium are known. There are also some so called "Janus head\u27; molecules In(OtBu)3M (M = Sn, Ge) which are stabilized by transition metal carbonyls at the indium or tin site. One aim of this work was the preparation of heterometallic indium(III)-tert-butoxides with the hetero metals titanium, vanadium, chromium, manganese, cobalt, copper and gold. The syntheses were attempted via the principle of a salt metathesis by use of KIn(OtBu)4 6 and transition metal chlorides in adequate molar proportions. During these attempts the new tert-butoxides [In(OtBu)2]4(C5H4)2 8, Cu[In(OtBu)4]*2py 14 and [CuIn(OtBu]4]2 15 were synthesized. In the reactions of KIn(OtBu)4 6 with VCl2 2, VCl3(THF)3 10, CrCl2 11, CrCl3(THF)3 12, MnCl2 20, (Ph3P)3CoCl 21, CoCl2 22, Ph3P-AuCl 25, AuCl(THT) 27, AuCl3 28 and AuCl3*py 29 it wasn\u27;t possible to get products which could structurally be investigated. Only in the reaction of CoCl2 22 with KIn(OtBu)4 6 in the molar proportion 1:2 a partial structure of "[CoIn(OtBu)5]2\u27; 23 could be received. Furthermore it was of interest if the substitution of another chlorine atom in THF*Cl2In(OtBu)3Sn 30 with [Na(OtBu)3Sn]2 31 is possible. By reaction of 30 with 31 in the molar proportion 1:1 the oxo-cluster ClInO[Sn(OtBu)2]3 32 was obtained, with the molar proportion 2:1 the tert-butoxide Sn(OtBu)3InCl3Na[Sn(OtBu)2]2 33 was synthesized
