In the Information Society, based in the digital access to information released from physical carriers, the new information professional´s role must orientate to active information management and requires to leave behind the traditional librarian´s stereotype as a passive knowlegde custodian. A survey was made and the results suggest the librarians thinks that their images is perceived as irelevant by society, while they perceived their own image as trascendent as mediators between information source, print and electronic, and the users. In order to achieve the change of this negative image, is necessary to emphasize the educational information professional´s role in the use of the new information technologie

Comparative genomics between Trichomonas tenax and Trichomonas vaginalis: CAZymes and candidate virulence factors

Introduction: The oral trichomonad Trichomonas tenax is increasingly 82 appreciated as a likely contributor to periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory 83 disease induced by dysbiotic microbiota, in humans and domestic animals and 84 is strongly associated with its worst prognosis. Our current understanding of 85 the molecular basis of T. tenax interactions with host cells and the microbiota 86 of the oral cavity are still rather limited. One laboratory strain of T. tenax (Hs- 87 4:NIH/ATCC 30207) can be grown axenically and two draft genome assemblies 88 have been published for that strain, although the structural and functional 89 annotation of these genomes is not available. 90Methods: GenSAS and Galaxy were used to annotate two publicly available 91 draft genomes for T. tenax, with a focus on protein-coding genes. A custom 92 pipeline was used to annotate the CAZymes for T. tenax and the human 93 sexually transmitted parasite Trichomonas vaginalis, the most well-characterized 94 trichomonad. A combination of bioinformatics analyses was used to screen for 95 homologs of T. vaginalis virulence and colonization factors within the T. tenax 96 annotated proteins. 97Results: Our annotation of the two T. tenax draft genome sequences and their 98 comparison with T. vaginalis proteins provide evidence for several candidate 99 virulence factors. These include candidate surface proteins, secreted proteins 100 and enzymes mediating potential interactions with host cells and/or members 101 of the oral microbiota. The CAZymes annotation identified a broad range of 102 glycoside hydrolase (GH) families, with the majority of these being shared 103between the two Trichomonas species. 104 105 Discussion: The presence of candidate T. tenax virulence genes supports the 106hypothesis that this species is associated with periodontitis through direct and 107 indirect mechanisms. Notably, several GH proteins could represent potential new 108 virulence factors for both Trichomonas species. These data support a model 109 where T. tenax interactions with host cells and members of the oral microbiota 110 could synergistically contribute to the damaging inflammation characteristic of 111 periodontitis, supporting a causal link between T. tenax and periodontitis

Cross-cultural validation and analysis of responsiveness of the QUALIOST(®): QUAlity of Life questionnaire In OSTeoporosis

BACKGROUND: The QUALIOST(® )was designed for use with the SF-36 to measure established osteoporosis-specific quality of life (QoL). The reliability (internal consistency and test-retest) and validity of the questionnaire were established in a stand-alone psychometric validation study. The objective of this paper is to provide additional information on the instrument's responsiveness using clinical trial data, along with the reliability and validity of translated versions. METHODS: The Spinal Osteoporosis Therapeutic Intervention (SOTI) was an international clinical trial comparing strontium ranelate to placebo on the occurrence of new vertebral fracture in patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis. QoL was a secondary endpoint, assessed using the SF-36 and QUALIOST(® )at baseline and every six months, with the main analysis at 3-year follow-up. Questionnaire acceptability, analysis of the hypothesised structure, internal consistency reliability and responsiveness to clinical change over time were assessed at the 3-year follow up. RESULTS: 1592 patients from 11 countries completed at least one QoL questionnaire. The psychometric properties of the questionnaires were assessed on cross-sectional (N = 1486) and longitudinal (N = 1288) data. Item discriminant validity of the QUALIOST(® )was excellent, as was item convergent validity, with 100% of item-scale correlations being above the 0.40 level. Internal consistency reliability was also extremely good, with high Cronbach's alpha scores above the 0.70 benchmark. Responsiveness results were consistent for all QUALIOST(® )scores, indicating that greater decreases in QoL corresponded to greater numbers of fractures experienced. QUALIOST(® )scores also differed according to the type of fracture suffered. This was demonstrated by increased effect sizes for more severe vertebral fractures (clinical vertebral and painful vertebral). In comparing responsiveness, the QUALIOST(® )scores were generally more consistent than those of the SF-36. Most notably, the QUALIOST(® )was more responsive with regard to painful vertebral fractures than the SF-36. CONCLUSION: The QUALIOST(® )is a reliable and valid tool for measuring QoL in postmenopausal osteoporotic women. Being available in several validated language versions, it is ready to be used in a variety of settings, including international clinical trials

Disappearance of Transverse Flow in Central Collisions for Heavier Nuclei

For the first time, mass dependence of balance energy only for heavier systems has been studied. Our results are in excellent agreement with the data which allow us to predict the balance energy of U+U, for the first time, around 37-39 MeV/nucleon. Also our results indicate a hard equation of state along with nucleon-nucleon cross-section around 40 mb.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev. Let

HIV prevalence and undiagnosed infection among a community sample of gay and bisexual men in Scotland, 2005-2011: implications for HIV testing policy and prevention

<b>Objective</b><p></p> To examine HIV prevalence, HIV testing behaviour, undiagnosed infection and risk factors for HIV positivity among a community sample of gay men in Scotland.<p></p> <b>Methods</b><p></p> Cross-sectional survey of gay and bisexual men attending commercial gay venues in Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland with voluntary anonymous HIV testing of oral fluid samples in 2011. A response rate of 65.2% was achieved (1515 participants).<p></p> <b>Results</b><p></p> HIV prevalence (4.8%, 95% confidence interval, CI 3.8% to 6.2%) remained stable compared to previous survey years (2005 and 2008) and the proportion of undiagnosed infection among HIV-positive men (25.4%) remained similar to that recorded in 2008. Half of the participants who provided an oral fluid sample stated that they had had an HIV test in the previous 12 months; this proportion is significantly higher when compared to previous study years (50.7% versus 33.8% in 2005, p<0.001). Older age (>25 years) was associated with HIV positivity (1.8% in those <25 versus 6.4% in older ages group) as was a sexually transmitted infection (STI) diagnosis within the previous 12 months (adjusted odds ratio 2.13, 95% CI 1.09–4.14). There was no significant association between age and having an STI or age and any of the sexual behaviours recorded.<p></p> <b>Conclusion</b><p></p> HIV transmission continues to occur among gay and bisexual men in Scotland. Despite evidence of recent testing within the previous six months, suggesting a willingness to test, the current opt-out policy may have reached its limit with regards to maximising HIV test uptake. Novel strategies are required to improve regular testing opportunities and more frequent testing as there are implications for the use of other biomedical HIV interventions.<p></p&gt
