Around the table : In search of a historio-pedagogical dimension of tastes from childhood
Inspiracją do podjętych refleksji stało się odkrycie w materiałach o charakterze biograficznym
licznych nawiązań do zmysłowych wspomnień z okresu dzieciństwa, a szczególnie
serca”. Szczególne miejsce w tych wspomnieniach zajmuje stół, jako miejsce niezwykle
ważne i symboliczne.
funkcję wehikułu czasu i miejsca. Zamierzam zatem podjąć próbę ukazania historyczno‑pedagogicznego
wymiaru smaku dzieciństwa oraz skłonić czytelników do osobistych
poszukiwań w tym zakresie
Defining the Personality Characteristics of Delinquent Adolescent Recividists
This study was done to provide basic empirical data on the Millon Adolescent Clinical Inventory with the focus on establishing a personality profile for recidivistic juvenile offenders. The subjects of this study consisted of four groups of male and female adolescents between the ages of 15 and 17 years. The control group (n = 50) consisted of adolescents not adjudicated either delinquent or dependent. The dependent group (n = 50) consisted of adolescents not adjudicated delinquent and fitting the diagnosis of oppositional defiant disorder. The delinquent group (n = 50) consisted of adolescents that were diagnosed as conduct disordered and adjudicated delinquent with no felony convictions but with two adjudications. The last group, the recidivist offenders (n = 50) consisted of adolescents diagnosed as conduct disordered. These adolescents were also adjudicated delinquent with at least two felony convictions but no less than three arrests. Nine scales of the Millon Adolescent Clinical Inventory (MACI) that research had shown to be the common characteristics prevalent in delinquents were used in this study. It was hypothesized that there would be a significant difference between the nine scale scores selected from the MACI between the recidivist group who were expected to score higher on all nine scales than the other groups. The results however showed that the control group scored significantly higher on the following scales of the MACI: unruly, forceful, oppositional, social insensitivity, family disorder and impulse propensity than the other three groups. The results give rise to questions regarding the implications for treatment of all adolescents involved in the court system. It also brings into question the usefulness of clinical data when subjects try to appear more benign or delinquent for self-serving reasons
SANDWICH PANELS – BEHAVIOR IN FIRE BASED ON FIRE RESISTANCE TESTS
Sandwich panel is the material that is easy and quickly to install. Basing on a great experience in the area of determination of the fire resistance class of construction building elements the authors describe the properties and behavior of building elements made of the sandwich panels exposed to fire. The article presents the results of fire resistance tests carried out in accordance with EN 1364-1 non-bearing walls made of sandwich panels with use of different cores. The following parameters were analyzed: temperature rise on unexposed side (I – thermal insulation), integrity (E) depending on the orientations and on the width of the sandwich panels, deflection depending on the thickness of the boards. Conclusions were made on the base of the analysis from fire resistance tests
Immunohistochemical analysis of MMP-9, MMP-2 and TIMP-1, TIMP-2 expression in the central nervous system following infection with viral and bacterial meningitis.
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are capable of degrading components of the basal lamina of cerebral vessels, thereby disrupting the blood-brain barrier and inducing leukocyte recruitment. This study provides comprehensive information regarding the cell specificity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-2, MMP-9) and their binding tissue inhibitors (TIMP-1, TIMP-2) in the central nervous system during viral and bacterial meningitis. Specifically, we evaluated the immunoreactivity of MMPs and TIMPs in various cell types in brain parenchyma and meninges obtained from autopsy tissues. We found that a higher proportion of endothelial cells were positive for MMP-9 during meningitis when compared to controls. In addition, the immunoreactivity of MMP-9 decreased and the immunoreactivity of TIMP-1 increased in astrocytes upon infection. Furthermore, the results of this study revealed that mononuclear cells were highly immunoreactive for TIMP-1, TIMP-2 and MMP-9 during viral meningitis and that the expression of TIMPs in polymorphonuclear cells was even higher during bacterial meningitis. Taken together the results of this study indicated that the central nervous system resident cells and inflammatory infiltrates contribute to MMPs activity and that the expression patterns vary between cell types and in response to viral and bacterial meningitis

A projekt keretében több személyes találkozó során alakítottunk ki a SPARC (Stored Particle Atomic Physics Research Collaboration) kollaborációhoz kapcsolódó mérések és elméleti számolások terveit az e-2e folyamatok inverz kinematika mellett történő tanulmányozására kvázi elektronok és ionok ütközéseiben tárológyűrűknél. Nemzetközi konferencia-szekciókat szerveztünk a SPARC körüli tervek széleskörű bemutatására. Rendszeresen részt vettünk más SPARC találkozókon is, ahol terveinket másokkal is megvitattuk. Együttműködésünk nem bilaterális, másokkal közös tervek kialakítására is sor került. A projekt keretében elvégzett kísérleti és elméleti munkák is a leendő SPARC együttműködéshez kapcsolódnak, ezek tervei is a közös vitákban születtek meg, részben most végezzük őket, részben közlés előtt vagy alatt állnak. Terveink, megfontolásaink egy részét publikáltuk, illetve több előadásban, vitában ismertettük. | Within the framework of the project, we organized a series of short bilateral meetings for working out the research plans connected to the future experimental work to study quasy-electron - ion collisions in inverse kinematics at storage rings, within the framework of the Stored Particle Atomic Physics Research Collaboration (SPARC). We jointly organized con-ference sessions for discussing SPARC related physics and instrumental plans. We regularly attended other SPARC meetings, where we discussed our plans in a wider community. Our collaboration is not only bilateral, we discussed and formed common plans with third parties too. The performed research is also strongly connected to the future work within the SPARC collaboration, their plans have been formed in our common discussions. Some of them we are still working on, some are before or under publication. Part of our considerations and plans have been published and disseminated in talks and discussions
The origin and course of severe thunderstorm outbreaks in Poland on 10 and 11 August, 2017
This study documents the evolution of severe thunderstorm outbreaks that occurred on 10 and 11 August, 2017 in Poland. This study used cloud-to-ground lightning-strike data from the PERUN lightning detection network managed by the Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management – National Research Institute. In the description of storm phenomena the authors also applied synoptic maps, meteorological radar data, vertical atmosphere soundings and meteorological data from the station in Poland. The aim of this study was to trace the causes of the upward movement of supercells including the Mesoscale Convective System day by day, and to examine relationships between lighting distributions on 10 and 11 August, 2017. In Poland, on August 10, 2017, 154,524 cloud-to-ground flashes (CG) occurred, and 56,510 CG flashes the next day. On August 10, around 18% of all flashes had a positive current, but 29% the next day. The spatial distribution of the lightning in Poland was computed for 10×10-km grid cells. Based on the map analysis it was found that on those two days most of the positive flashes occurred in Greater Poland and Kuyavian-Pomeranian voivodships, as well as on the border of Opolskie and Lower Silesia
A multi-scale approach to the physics of ion beam cancer therapy
We propose a multi-scale approach to understanding physics related to the
ion/proton-beam cancer therapy and calculation of the probability of the DNA
damage as a result of irradiation of patients with energetic (up to 430 MeV/u)
ions. This approach is inclusive with respect to different scales starting from
the long scale defined by the ion stopping followed by a smaller scale defined
by secondary electrons and radicals ending with the shortest scale defined by
interactions of secondaries with the DNA. We present calculations of the
probabilities of single and double strand breaks of the DNA and suggest a way
of further elaboration of such calculations.Comment: submitted to RADAM2008 proceedings. 8 pages,5 Figures, class files
