    Reading For Pleasure among Urban Adolescents

    This study examines and understands the behavior of reading for pleasure among urban adolescents as part of a lifestyle from the perspective of cultural studies. This study found that the behavior of reading for pleasure developing among urban youth is not always a result of construction of the power by the capitalist culture industry through the publishing industry. The behaviors of reading for pleasure that is developing among urban adolescents can in general be divided into two groups, namely the pseudo-addictive readers and real-addictive readers. The definition of pseudo-addictive readers is the group of urban adolescents who read and choose the type of reading much influenced by the process of commodification of capitalist culture, in which they tend to read certain types of popular literature, both because of the influence of advertising support and other mass media. While the definition of real-addictive readers is the group of urban adolescents totally addicted to reading, not limited to just popular readings. For them the most important primary considerations in choosing reading is not because they want to make it solely as a means or "ticket" to enter the milieu of urban youth, but it is driven by the desire for pleasure and as an alternative to activities that are personally exciting.     Information seeking behavior in academic assignments using smartphone among elementary school students

    This article discusses information seeking behavior developed by elementary school students in completing academic assignments, their reasons for using smartphone to find information related to academic assignments, and students\u27 opinions about the role of school libraries. All data presented in this article are the results of a study on 500 elementary school students in four major cities in East Java Province, Indonesia, namely Surabaya, Malang, Madiun and Malang. This study found that there has been a change in information seeking behavior among elementary students who no longer rely solely on information from textbooks in the libraries. The students have become part of the YouTube Generation that uses more social media (YouTube) via smartphone. According to the elementary school students, YouTube is a social media platform that provides information that is easily understood, while Google offers unlimited information. Students\u27 confidence in the library as a source of information began to fade. Students in the millennial era often perceived libraries as sources of information from school textbooks, not as sources of information that are able to provide broad and varied information. To maintain the existence of school libraries, the role of school librarians that is urgently developed in the future is that librarians must change the way of learning and the choice of information sources among YouTube generation by collaborating with teachers in developing digital and information literacy skills among students

    Information Seeking Behaviour Model of Senior High School Students

    School libraries are a means for students to meet their information needs.  Students of Senior High School (henceforth SHS) require information to support their personal, study, and environmental needs. To meet those needs, SMA students do information seeking through information channels.  This research was aimed to identify an information seeking model of SMA students in Surabaya. The research employed a descriptive-quantitative approach.  The sample of the research was SHS students in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia, that were chosen using the multistage random sampling. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires.  The research found that the students’ information needs were mostly concerning entertainment and further education (after high school). The students responded to these needs calmly. Psychological, demographic, role-related, and environmental factors, as well as the characteristics of the information sources influenced information seeking.  In addition, teacher’s recommendation for using information channels also led SHS students to prefer to use the Internet. The majority of the respondents sought information when they needed it, but they kept looking for details to complete the required information.     BEING POWER AND POWERLESS: DYNAMICS ON INDONESIAN WOMEN’S MINISTER

    Purpose of study: This paper aims to re-questioning the positions of Indonesia's woman ministers in the internet citizen's perspectives on responding to the news related to those woman ministers. Methodology: The current study used a qualitative research design. The multimodal analysis has been used as a key to implement analysis on a conversation on the internet. Using the pattern of Herring, the researcher has used the data from the Facebook comments section on the official web page of Detik.com, the pioneer of Indonesia's online news site from 1 January – 31 December 2017. Digital Discourse Analysis has been used to analyze those digital actions then coded, and classified. Result: The obtained results show that there is a prominent separation between the ministers who own political powers and those who are considered not possess strong power in Indonesia's political arena. Implications/Applications: In observing those digital actions, this article will utilize limited mapping on Facebook commentary section on the official web page of Detik.com, the pioneer of Indonesia's online news site

    The correlation between plagiarism perception and users trust about the accuracy of turnitin software at The University of Indonesia

    Plagiarism is an act that violates the law, have been cases that have occurred in Indonesia and the world, and most have occurred in the academic scope. The cause of plagiarism is influenced by many factors, one of them is the lack of provisions or standards that clearly someone can be said to be the perpetrator of plagiarism. However, regardless of the actions that occur, technological advancements encourage software that can prevent the emergence of plagiarism, namely the Turnitin software. In this case one of the state universities, The University of Indonesia has used it in order to prevent and overcome plagiarism. But the absence of provisions or standards regarding plagiarism raises different perceptions in each person related to the problem of plagiarism, and this raises different beliefs as well when people use the Turnitin software. Therefore, this study discusses whether the perception of plagiarism in each person relates to the user\u27s trust in the accuracy of Turnitin software, especially among the academic community of the University of Indonesia. The approach that used in this study is quantitative explanative by using the University of Indonesia academic community as many as 85 people as respondents. The results of the study indicate the correlation of perceptions of plagiarism (X) with the user\u27s trust in the accuracy of Turnitin software (Y), and have a positive correlation. Based on the results of the coefficient t count of 3.590 while the t table is 1.663 (3,590\u3e1,663) with a significance level of 0.05, then is rejected so that there is a correlation between variable X and Y. The correlation is classified as a low correlation, with a correlation coefficient of 0.389

    Indonesian Women in Politics: Critical Analysis of Portrayal in Online News Sites

    In 2004 Election, Indonesian government launched a policy mandatory 30 percent female representatives in the legislature. This is an effort to accelerate an increase of women’s representativeness in the parliament. This research describes the imaging of women as politicians in Indonesian online news sites: detikcom, Kompas.com, and Tribunnews.com. Van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis was utilized as method of this research with feminist critical analysis as the  corresponding method. The result shows that the imaging of female politicians is in the domestic area. They are pictured as emotional and weak persons
