    Profil keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa dalam perkuliahan zoologi

    Keterampilan berpikir kritis sangat diperlukan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Pendidikan tinggi memiliki peranan dalam memberdayakan keterampilan berpikir kritis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa dalam perkuliahan zoologi di STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan berupa metode survei. Responden dalam penelitian melibatkan 114 mahasiswa biologi yang telah mengambil mata kuliah zoologi. Instrumen penelitian menggunakan lembar angket. Analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai rerata yang diperoleh dari hasil penelitian survei dalam bentuk narasi dan persentase. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa biologi dalam kategori sangat kurang. Indikator berpikir kritis menunjukkan 25,44% mahasiswa mampu memberikan argumen, 40,35% dapat mengajukan pertanyaan dengan benar, 13,16% mampu menjawab pertanyaan yang menantang dan 21,93% dapat menjawab pertanyaan berdasarkan sumber. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa pemberdayaan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa pada perkuliahan zoologi di STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang belum optimal. Profile of Students Critical Thinking Skills in Zoology. The critical thinking skills are necessary for everyday life, therefore, higher education has a role in empowering of critical thinking skills. This research aims to students' critical thinking skills in zoology learning at STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang. The research was survey method. Respondents in this research were 114 biology students who had taken zoology courses. The research instrument was a questionnaire. Data analysis using descriptive analysis that aims to describe the average value obtained from survey research results in the form of narration and percentage. The results show that the overall average value of critical thinking skills was classified as a very low category. The results of the questionnaire show that the average value of student give argument skill was 25.44%, ask questions correctly was 40.35%, answer challenging questions was 13.16% and answer questions by the source was 21.93%. These results provide the conclusion that the empowerment of critical thinking skills of students in zoology learning at STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang has not been optimal

    Contributions Of Metacognitive Skills Toward Students’ Cognitive Abilities Of Biology Through The Implementation Of GITTW (Group Investigation Combined With Think Talk Write) Strategy

    Metacognitive skill is an important aspect that must be developed and empowered in learning activities because it helps the development of thinking skills as well as its implications on students’ cognitive abilities. Therefore, the learning process should be designed to empowered metacognitive skills. This is a correlational study which aims to find (1) the relationship of metacognitive skills with cognitive abilities of Biology, and (2) the contribution of metacognitive skills on cognitive abilities of Biology on the application of the GI, TTW and GITTW strategies. The population of this study is Muhammadiyah high school students of grade 10th at Surabaya in the 1st academic year 2014/2015 in the science major. Samples were students of grade 10th which consists of six classes determined by random sampling. Data had been collected by conducting pre-test and posttest during the learning process for one semester. Learning instruments used in this study are syllabus, lesson plan (RPP), and students’ worksheet (LKS). All learning devices are using GI, TTW and GITTW strategies. The forms of instruments used are an essay test and cognitive skills rubrics. Metacognitive skills had been measured by metacognitive rubric integrated with cognitive ability test. Data was analysed by correlation and regression techniques. The results of the study showed that there were a significant correlation between metacognitive skills with cognitive abilities of Biology in GI strategy with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.906, the TTW strategies correlation coefficient (r) of 0.951 and the strategies GITTW correlation coefficient (r) of 0.881. Metacognitive skill level of contribution to the cognitive abilities of Biology at GI strategy is 82%, the TTW strategy is 90.5%, and the GITTW strategy is 77.7%

    Pengembangan Buku Ajar Bioteknologi Berbasis Penelitian Bioremidiasi Logam Berat Kadmium untuk Mahasiswa S1 Biologi Universitas Negeri Malang

    The purpose of this research is to produce research based textbook on bioremediation of heavy metals. This study adapted the Dick & Carey development model. Feasibility of the textbook is based on the results of product testing by experts and small groups. Types of data collected is quantitative data and qualitative data. The collected data have analyzed by quantitative and qualitative descriptive. The tests conducted by subject matter experts gave validity percentage of 91.6 %, an expert assessment of the media at 90.81 %, while a small group votes for 85.56 %. Based on the validation results, the textbook that has been developed is very valid and feasible to be used.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menghasilkan buku ajar berbasis penelitian tentang bioremidiasi logam berat. Penelitian ini mengadaptasi model pengembangan Dick & Carey. Kelayakan buku ajar didasarkan pada hasil uji coba produk oleh tim ahli dan kelompok kecil. Jenis data yang dikumpulkan adalah data kuantitatif dan data kualitatif. Data yang telah terkumpul dianalisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil validasi yang dilakukan oleh ahli materi memberikan nilai persentase kevalidan buku ajar sebesar 91.6%, penilaian dari ahli media sebesar 90.81%. sedangkan penilaian kelompok kecil sebesar 85.56%. Berdasarkan hasil validasi maka buku ajar yang dikembangkan dikategorikan sangat valid dan layak untuk dipergunakan

    Research and development aims to produce module based research on material environmental biotechnology. The method used in the research and development followed development model Borg and Gall (1983), which consists of seven stages. The research object using freshgraduatedstudents who are taking biotechnology lesson. Measurement of the effectiveness of the module used gain score, The results of the validation of media expert is 79.17%, while the results of the validation of module contains experts is 96%. The test results readability is 90.84%. The test results showed the effectiveness of module is 0.68, it means included medium criteria.Penelitian pengembangan bertujuan untuk menghasilkan modul berbasis penelitian pada materi bioteknologi lingkungan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian dan pengembangan menggikutimodel pengembangan Borg dan Gall (1983), yang terdiri atas 7 tahapan. Objek penelitian menggunakan mahasiswa S1 yang sedang menempuh matakuliah bioteknologi. Pengukuran keefektifan modul menggunakan rumus gain score yang diperoleh dari nilai pretest dan posttest. Hasil validasi dari ahli media adalah 79,17%, sedangkan hasil validasi dari ahli materi adalah 96%. Adapun hasil uji keterbacaan adalah 90,84%. Hasil uji keefektifan menunjukkan angka 0,68 artinya termasuk ke dalam kriteria sedang, modul yang digunakan mahasiswa efektif digunakan oleh mahasiswa

    Learning resources can be used by students in the learning process to acquire information and knowledge. Learning resources in the form of handouts biotechnology courses needed by students to provide information related to environmental pollution due to heavy metal contamination Hg using a consortia of bacteria as a reducing agent. This study aims to improve understanding of the concept of the student in understanding the use of consortia of bacteria in reducing Hg by utilizing handouts. The method used is the One Group Pre-Test Post-Test Design using one class sample. Pre-Test administered before treatment to measure the initial understanding of students while the Post-Test is given to measure student understanding of the concept of the final after being given treatment. Data analysis was performed using the formula gain score. Value gain score obtained in the study were categorized high by 0.71.Sumber belajar dapat digunakan siswa dalam proses belajar untuk memperoleh informasi dan pengetahuan. Sumber belajar berupa handout mata kuliah bioteknologi dibutuhkan oleh mahasiswa untuk memberikan informasi terkait penanggulangan pencemaran lingkungan akibat cemaran logam berat Hg menggunakan konsorsia bakteri sebagai agen pereduksi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep mahasiswa dalam memahami pemanfaatan konsorsia bakteri dalam mereduksi logam Hg dengan memanfaatkan handout. Metode yang digunakan adalah One Group Pre-Test Post-Test Design dengan menggunakan satu kelas sampel penelitian. Pre-Test diberikan sebelum perlakuan untuk mengukur pemahaman awal mahasiswa sedangkan Post-Test diberikan untuk mengukur pemahaman konsep akhir mahasiswa setelah diberikan perlakuan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan rumus gain score. Nilai gain score yang diperoleh dalam penelitian sebesar 0,71 yang berkategori tinggi

    Effectiveness of Indigenous Lead (Pb) Reducing Bacteria Consortia of Waste Water Treatment in Agar Flour Industry

    Lead (Pb) is known as toxic element in environment. It is produced from processing of Agar Flour industry activities. Enhancement of Pb in the waste water of agar flour is very dangerous for human health. Effect of lead damage some organ e.g. kidney, liver, and hair. Environment standard of lead concentration on waste water based on Governor of East Java Regulation No. 72 of 2013 is 1 mg.L-1, otherwise, initial lead levels of waste water are 3.114 mg.L-1. The aim of the research is reducing the level of lead to be harmless for the environment. One method to decrease a high concentration of lead in waste water is biosorption. Consortia of Bacillus alvei and Bacillus pumilus as indigenous bacteria are used to decrease Pb level in the wastewater. The experiment was carried out with varies of wastewater concentration and bacteria 3 %, 4%, 5%, 6%, and 7%. Consortium of B. alvei dan B. pumilus at 7 % concentration have the highest potency 93.58 % to reduce lead reach 0.2 mg.L-1

    Pre-service biology teacher’s perception on local environment problems as contextual learning resources

    A survey and exploratory study were conducted to analyze Lake Tempe as a resource for contextual learning (CTL). The first phase of the study included exploring the lake’s potential through interviews with the people who live in the lake’s coastal region. Quadrat transects were done to identify aquatic plants around the lake. A feasibility analysis was conducted to see the lake’s potential as a learning resource. Field data were collected and compared to the environmental biology (EB) curriculum, responses, and learning outcome. The data were analyzed descriptively and tested using a paired-sample t-test. The results showed differences in the three stations’ physicochemical parameters and decreased quality of the water. It was found that anthropogenic activity had a significant contribution to the lake’s pollution. Nine species of six aquatic plant families were found in the lake. The survey revealed that the lake was feasible as a learning resource with criteria easy to access, safety, time efficiency, costs, and the material's suitability for EB courses. The t-test showed a difference in the students’ scores between before and after exploration practices. These findings suggest that Lake Tempe can serve as a resource for CTL in EB courses

    Penerapan Pembelajaran Reciprocal Teaching Berbantuan Peta Konsep untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis Siswa pada Pembelajaran Biologi

    This research aims to determine the influence of reciprocal teaching learning aided concept maps to students critical thinking skills in learning biology. The design of the study is a quasi-experimental design with research subjects in class X student of Agricultural Product Processing Technology (TPHP) and class X student of Fishery Products Processing Technology (TPHPi). Differences of the students critical thinking skills in the both class analyzed by using Anacova test. The results showed that there is an positive effect of reciprocal teaching learning aided concept maps to the critical thinking ability of students. The critical thinking of students' in the experimental class (average percentage of critical thinking skills of students 73,36%) was higher than the control group (average percentage of students' critical thinking skills 53,20%). From the results of the study it can be concluded that the application of reciprocal teaching learning aided concept maps can enhance students' critical thinking skills in learning biology.Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh pembelajaran reciprocal teaching berbantuan peta konsep terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada pembelajaran biologi. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah rancangan eksperimen semu dengan subjek penelitian siswa pada kelas X Teknologi Pengolahan Hasil Pertanian (TPHP) dan siswa kelas X Teknologi Pengolahan Hasil Perikanan (TPHPi). Perbedaan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada kedua kelas dianalisis menggunakan uji Anacova. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh positif pembelajaran reciprocal teaching berbantuan peta konsep terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada kelas eksperimen (rata-rata persentase kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa 73,36%) lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol (rata-rata persentase kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa 53,20%). Dari hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa penerapan pembelajaran reciprocal teaching berbantuan peta konsep dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada pembelajaran Biologi

    Gene isolation from sulfide-oxidizing indigenous bacteria in the river Kali Mati, subdistrict Muncar, is very potential for using as a textbook development on the subjects Biotechnology. The results of the interview explain that there is not teaching material like textbook on subjects Biotechnology yet, especially in sub-theme the application of biotechnology on the environment (bioremediation). Research and development objectives is to produce a research product in the form of a textbook that can be applied to the sub-theme the application of biotechnology on the environment (bioremediation) in subjects Biotechnology. This study is developing a textbook for subjects Biotechnology in Study Program Biology Education (S1), Mathematics and Sciences Education (FKIP) Jember University, that adapts the model development Borg and Gall. The development product, textbooks, for subjects Biotechnology in Study Program Biology Education, Jember University, has a total mean from analysis of the results of the validation and testing of small groups above 81%, so that it can be categorized as valid and worthy.Isolasi gen pengoksidasi sulfida pada bakteri indigen di Sungai Kali Mati, Kecamatan Muncar sangat potensial untuk digunakan sebagai bahan pengembangan buku ajar pada matakuliah Bioteknologi. Hasil wawancara menjelaskan bahwa, masih belum terdapat bahan ajar yang berupa buku ajar pada matakuliah Bioteknologi terutama pada sub-tema penerapan bioteknologi terhadap lingkungan (bioremediasi). Tujuan penelitian dan pengembangan ini adalah menghasilkan produk penelitian berupa buku ajar yang dapat diaplikasikan pada sub-tema penerapan bioteknologi terhadap lingkungan (bioremediasi) dalam matakuliah Bioteknologi. Penelitian ini berupa pengembangan buku ajar untuk matakuliah Bioteknologi di Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi (S1) FKIP Universitas Jember yang mengadaptasi model pengembangan Borg and Gall. Produk pengembangan buku ajar untuk matakuliah Bioteknologi di Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi FKIP Universias Jember, memiliki rerata total analisis hasil validasi dan ujicoba kelompok kecil di atas 81%, sehingga hal tersebut dapat dikategorikan valid dan layak
