An open dataset for research on audio field recording archives: freefield1010
We introduce a free and open dataset of 7690 audio clips sampled from the
field-recording tag in the Freesound audio archive. The dataset is designed for
use in research related to data mining in audio archives of field recordings /
soundscapes. Audio is standardised, and audio and metadata are Creative Commons
licensed. We describe the data preparation process, characterise the dataset
descriptively, and illustrate its use through an auto-tagging experiment

Mass Rearing the Gypsy Moth Pupal Parasitoids \u3ci\u3eBrachymeria Lasus\u3c/i\u3e and \u3ci\u3eBrachymeria Intermedia\u3c/i\u3e (Hymenoptera: Chalcididae) for Small-Scale Laboratory Studies
An economical technique was developed for mass rearing the gypsy moth para- sitoids Brachymeria lasus and B. intermedia using a factitious host, the greater wax moth, Galleria mellonella (Lepidoptera: pyralidae). Percentages of host pupae producing adult B. lusus and B. intermedia were 72.2 and 67.5, respectively. Percentages of adult wax moths emerging from groups of pupae exposed to populations of B. lasus and B. intermedia were 3.4 and 9.8, respectively. Mean emergence times of males and females from parasitized pupae incubated at 29° C. were 12.1 days and 13.8 days for B. lasus and 11.9 days and 13.5 days for B. intermedia. This procedure provides a low-maintenance laboratory culture with high yields from host pupae

Validating action research field studies: PEArL
The difficulty of establishing the validity of Action Research field studies has been well documented. Enabling interested individuals to follow the route of inquiry, or “recover” the inquiry process, has provided some means of addressing the difficult issue of validation. Such an approach, however, still fails to provide a sense of the manner in which an inquiry was undertaken, which can be important when individuals, participants in the inquiry or otherwise, are making their own judgments concerning validity. In this paper we argue that by supporting any interested individuals in making their own judgments concerning the manner in which the inquiry process was undertaken, it is possible for a public perception of the authenticity and credibility, or character, of that inquiry process to emerge. We argue that such a perception is an essential aspect of making judgments concerning the validity of an Action Research project
